All the details from Daily Mail:

Ukranian model Valeria Lukyanova, who lives her life as a ‘human Barbie’ has revealed she doesn’t consume food or water anymore. Some have said she uses plastic surgery and Photoshop to create her doll-like image, but her impossibly thin waist could actually be down to not eating for weeks. The model, 23, has said she is now converting to ‘Breatharianism’ – training herself to live off only light and air.

‘In recent weeks I have not been hungry at all; I’m hoping it’s the final stage before I can subsist on air and light alone,‘ she has said. The model and singer’s new vice, Breatharianism, is a cult that believes food – and possibly water – are not necessary. A breatharian is said to be someone who never eats or drinks as they can exist on ‘cosmic micro-food’, according to the International Business Times.

The practice is criticized as potentially lethal pseudoscience, and several practitioners have reportedly died of starvation. None have submitted themselves for comprehensive medical testing. With her pinched waist, skeletal arms, enormous coloured contact lenses, thick make-up and vacant expression, Valeria believes she has become a living, breathing Barbie – something she sees as the ultimate embodiment of perfection. She has courted international controversy by turning herself into a human doll, confessing she wishes to be considered ‘the most perfect woman on the internet’. Based on the photos on her social media accounts, Valeria is sporting an increasingly thin frame.

Imagine a life consumed by how you look?? Puts my own dietary restrictions into perspective and makes me realize how shallow it is to care so much about petty things when there is so much more to life :/

  • Anon

    What. The. F***.

    Let Darwinism do its magic.

    • Lau

Hahahaha I LOVE your comment. Couldn’t agree with you more…

    Breatharian.. more like DUMBarian

    • liv

Didn’t this start in the 70s? I mean I love the clothes, shoes, and music of the 70s…. but I agree that this cult is stupid

  • C

Don’t u die if u don’t consume water pretty quick?!why not water? What is “bad” about water according to these people?! I kinda get the food but that’s craaaazy too but even water???

    • Jay

Yep, usually within a week or so. Hence, she’s full of crap.

    • lonelyheroine

Here’s what I got from the Almighty Google. I really didn’t believe this mannequin never drinks any liquids: If you’re ever stuck out in the wilderness, remember what survival experts call ‘the Rule of Threes’.

“You can live 3 minutes without air, though we don’t recommend trying. In a harsh environment — it’s snowing, say — you have 3 hours to survive without shelter. After 3 days, you need water or you’ll perish. You can make it 3 weeks without food, though we promise you that won’t be fun.”

    • neatlybroken

People that have tried it have died in this cult. I don’t understand how anyone could think it’s a good idea.

  • liv

This is so terribly terrifying and sad… like one of those murder show on the I.D.. except she’s the killer abd the victim…

  • Joyce

I mean, the poor thing is mental ill. I don’t think the entire internet should be on her case the way that it is. The attention only fuels her.

  • Tonyee

I cannot WAIT until she starts getting older…Lol she’ll start looking like a Plastic Surgeon’s Nightmare 🙂

  • lc

    Bizarre…

    • MerryHappy

Yeah… She is just the strangest thing.
And the very meanest part of me was like “good, she’ll go away faster.”
But, I don’t wish her death by dehydration/starvation. She is FOS though, because she would already be dead if that was the case.

Let us not forget this woman thinks she is a male guru/deity from another planet/astral plane….

  • CarrieD

I really hope people can see from her comments that she’s mentally unstable.. Not trying to be mean, but she is. I’m a nursing student. Sadly (for me) I’m the typical case of a nursing student who wishes she was a medical student (I’m not american and the whole thing might be too complicated/boring to explain), BUT one thing I’ve lerant in my nursing training is that we have as much information, and EVERY right to be taken seriously as doctors do. And this person is INsANE.. Let me tell you what happens. You can totally cut out food. For a reasonably long time, actually. As long as you keep drinking water. But forget what they say about “toxins” (best advice I’ve been given, if they don’t name the tonxin. and just say “toxins”, it’s bull.) But, yeah, You can starve. No food. But in the meantime, you get vulnerble to all infectious/contagious diseases, And yes, you can starve yourself for a big while. But as someone who’s been there/done that you’ll have to eventually start eating. And you’ll either brake your super serious regimen, or DIE, Seriosusly, I’m not trying to get into drama, but this is reality.

    • Jay

sorry but nurses and doctors are not the same thing.. that’s why medical school is 4 years + residency after undergrad. not saying nurses shouldn’t be taken seriously. they’re tremendously important, just as vital as doctors, but come on…

      • Jenna

Thank you! I don’t understand where nurses get this idea that they know as much as doctors because I’ve seen it in plenty of nurses during my undergrad. I’m not putting them down at all, it’s just not the same.

About this Barbie girl…you are not a plant, go eat something.

        • lonelyheroine

At least a plant needs water to survive along with carbon dioxide and oxygen

        • Hellonhighheels

jay and jenna..how ignorant you two sound! I have a feeling you have no idea how much work and education go into becoming an RN (BSN) or MSN. Nursing is not medical diagnoses and we are not doctors “bitches” We have backgrounds in anatomy, physiology, pathophysio, pharmacology, etc. We don’t think we are doctors, but usually we are the ones that are your final line of defense before a Dr’s intervention (medication error? reaction? Not responding to intervention?) We deal directly with patients and focus on the pt and do tend to be intimately familiar with disease and medical diagnoses. Both of your comments are so incredibly condescending and it really proves you don’t know your shit.

      • CarrieD

I never said nurses and doctors were the same thing. But in my country you have to study for 4 years at university to get a nursing degree and you have a lot of medical related subjects, like advanced anatomy and patology (not sure if this is the correct term in english). All I meant is that a lot of people still think nurses are only there to follow the doctor’s orders, and the truth is we do have a lot of knowledge. I can’t tell you how many times doctors screw up and the nurse has to call them on their mistake. Again, at least in my country. Also, I really like medicine so I read a lot of additional scientifical medical papers. I didn’t mean to come across as a know-it-all or something, it was late and I was tired. My point was the same as everyone else’s, this Breatharian thing is stupid and probably even fatal.
But to you and to the poster below, yes, doctors have a more intensive kind of training, but I have a feeling you think the difference in knowledge is THAT much bigger, and it really isn’t.

        • Aerie

I would just like to state that I work with medical students, as I’m an MD myself. Let me tell you, I’ve seen some nurses who have put doctors to shame. Let us not forget that if it wasn’t for nurses, our jobs would be a hell of a lot harder. Perhaps you people are in family med, but in gen surg, we’d be lost without them. Show some respect.

          • CarrieD

Thank you Aerie, for your kindness. This is my second degree. I found out I wanted to be a doctor when I was my finishing my first one (totally different field), but to get into med school I would have to go back to highschool, since here you choose a specific area and I chose one that didn’t have the specific courses I needed to get in. So I thought, I’ll finish this nursing degree and take a masters in medicine (here, people with a degree in anything health related, like pharmacy or nursing can do that, and by the end of the 4 year masters you’re officially a MD).
I went in thinking this was just a means to an end, and now I’m amazed at how much we have to know (and at how hard it is!). And I really like it too. So maybe I’ll still go for the MD, but if I end up being “just” a nurse, I’m pretty sure that’ll make me happy as well. So I get where people are coming from because I used to think nurses didn’t really know that much, but now that I’m here I see how wrong I was,

          • CarrieD

Also, I must confess that I had been drinking a bit prior to writing my first post, and that’s why it’s so poorly written and it doesn’t really make that much sense ;P

    • Juju

captain obvious on the rescue? ^^

      • Cat

Yeah, you don’t need a medical degree to realize there’s something mentally off in this girl’s head.

        • Juju

And that if you starve you’ll eventually die, wow I’d never have guessed that.

  • erin

I’ve seen this so many places. I call bull. You die after 3-5 days without water. I’m sure dry gray skin and falling out hair will look great! She’s gotta consider that.

    • jjj2

I also wonder if she really said any of this though. Since she doesn’t speak english, it is harder to prove any of these wacky claims.

  • Alex

Is it weird that I think she looks beautiful in the picture 4th from the top?

  • Terae

Pretty sure this woman has been subsisting on very little to no food for quite some time now. Compared to her “before” photos… She was always thin but definitely never this thin. This is remove a couple of ribs and starve yourself thin. She had a video documentary made of her and in it she describes herself as some ancient celestial being and that she transcends this earth and time. Some crap like that. Now I’m pretty sure that’s some mentally unstable stuff already, unless she is trolling us all HARD for fame. But like the disclaimer at the beginning of the post (well done admins, I like the addition of that disclaimer) she is being completely irresponsible as an “Internet personality” and someone that young women may be looking at at taking “thinspiration” from. We all need to stop posting about her, commenting about her, and giving her any attention because that is what is keeping her relevant and being able to send these ludicrous and DANGEROUS messages to women who are either currently suffering with ED, trying to recover, or merely dealing with severe severe self-consciousness.

  • at first i thought the whole barbie image thing was kinda cool in a weird way, but this is too much for me now. she’s gone way too far – the whole thing kind of disgusts me, and i don’t want to see any more posts about her or hear about her again. yuck

  • Jenni

I just think this is all a bunch of bs. Probably a publicity stunt. If she really believes that…like another poster said:

    Let Darwinism do its magic.

  • I lost my breath. She took it from me. SO I am at a loss for words.

  • Taylor

I don’t understand how she could not be hungry…

    • Jay

the mind is a powerful thing. some people can tell themselves something is true so many times that it becomes true in their own minds. perception is reality, all that jazz.

    • Cat

Some people respond to starvation with a loss of appetite instead of an increase. There are many people who get a ‘high’ from fasting and/or starvation-type behaviours.

  • Maria MUA

I am saddened by the fact that she has not been given the help she clearly needs from mental health professionals and absolutely furious that she is a working model and singer as that is entirely irresponsible that the media allows her to be in the public eye. Young women look up to public figures and, while I think it is pathetic that people look up so much to celebrities, it is upsetting to think that our sisters, daughters and friends may be persuaded by this sick, mentally deranged person’s looks and comments.

  • These people (the ‘Ken’ guy too) shouldn’t be getting any publicity at all – unless it’s for entering a treatment centre to help them with their psychiatric illness! They look disturbing and far from ‘perfect’ to me – unless ‘perfection’ is to look like something completely unnatural!
Breatharianism I have heard of before and I do not understand how anyone (who isn’t mentally ill) could possibly think it’s plausible to live without food or water! As I say, they should be in an institution somewhere being treated for their illness….

  • kindkaci

“Hey what did you eat for breakfast?”
-“Oh just some air. I was still a little hungry afterwards so I had some sunshine!.”

What kind of life is that?

    • Dead_Sarah

Very inexpensive one. Can you imagine? No more shopping, washing dishes, no need to tinkle anymore. Sounds nice to me.

      • kindkaci

LOL, more money to give to her surgeon!

    • Juju

It’s even more restrictive than “living of love and fresh water” damn!

  • Scotty

Naw, this is just marketing. I don’t believe her. I do believe she dieted beforehand so people would believe her, though. She is looking very thin.

That last picture is beautiful. Not because the people in it are pretty, but as art.

  • inevercommentonhere

Airhead has a whole new meaning now.

    • PS

Despite all the disgust I was feeling at the topic I had to chuckle when I read your comment 🙂

    • Jenna

      Best comment ever.

  • inevercommentonhere

Seriously though wth is wrong with some of these people who are so against food… It’s one thing to be health conscious and stay away from junk food, it’s another to completely deprive yourself of food for fear of “getting fat”. My parents come from a 3 world country, people are dying of hunger, people are dying from dehydration and there are people out there who have easy access to all food and water yet they avoid it, what a shame! I understand this is all a mental thing, but sometimes it just really bugs me. I truly hope she’s trolling us… If she’s not, I hope she seeks help asap because to live a life soley based on physical appearances is a life not lived.

  • Shailene

I’m not sure I feel comfortable commenting on her. I agree with those saying she’s either very troubled, or trolling for PR.

I believe the “human barbie” thing is kind of an underground trend though, or whatever I should call it… Like the “lolita” trend. I’m not sure that it’s so different from people who go all the way with the goth look, etc… Whatever floats your boat. The plastic surgery and breatharianism is another issue.

  • menta

she doesn’t look like barbie she looks like an alien

  • Jelena S.

    thanks for the nightmares…

  • menta

to be honest i don’t trust her, if seh doesn’t drink water at all she would be already dead. she said it only because of the attention. but saying bullshit like this is very dangerous, i mean there are so many stupid lil girls around who belive her and trying to copy her routines. so sad. obviously she is mentally ill.

i don’t even unfderstand what’s happening on the first picture. and she is trying to feed us that she dosn’t use photoshop.. lol

  • Hay-hey

Barbie doesn’t have ankles like that. Tsk Tsk.

    • Mark

      Lmfao

  • Ellie

So… she wants to die? Poor girl, I hope she gets the help she needs. 🙁

  • Snugglepup

There’s a sadhu that claims that he’s been living 70 years without drinking or eating anything. He was put under a 24h observation and in the 15 days or so what he spent under the observation in a hospital he didn’t eat, drink nor urinate. Idk if this thing is real, but I don’t think that this sad wreck of a human being, crazy person, “human barbie” is on a high level enough on the path to holiness and strong spirit, if that sadhu really has done what he claims to have. This chick has no hope on surviving like that.

    • Juju

Hoax. How could someone even believe it?

      • Snugglepup

Some people believe even in some dude from nasareth and him being able to cure the sick and walking on water and stuff like that, crazy, huh?

        • Juju

Haha I’m with you here :p

  • louis21

    I’m speechless.

  • Sabrina Vaillancourt

‘In recent weeks I have not been hungry at all; I’m hoping it’s the final stage before I can subsist on air and light alone.”

NO, its the final stage before you die.

    • Rita

hahahaha that REALLY made me laugh XD

    • Mark

      Lmao

  • natascha

please someone get her hospitalized… this is sick

  • Tonka

She might be a light worker, but she sure ain’t too bright. Her life achievement will be a Darwin Award. What a waste of mankind’s first alien encounter, eh?

It’s sad, I think she’s beautiful, especially without the Barbie get-up. But she shouldn’t be allowed to dole out this kind of advice to young girls and women. I mean if you have these sort of issues you should be talking about it with a therapist, not selling it to the public as perfection.

I apologize if this ends up a double post. I’m typing on the tablet from hell.

    • Mark

Girls will want to be like her regardless.

  • katie

Your body NEEDS water. For the love of God… There is a reason (hundreds… thousands of reasons) it’s called the liquid of life. I’d love for someone to explain to her what happens to your body on a molecular level if you don’t have water. This has apparently been around for a long time, so whomever came up with this “diet” is clearly not following it because if they actually did they’d be dead and it wouldn’t be around anymore. I get that people have the right to freedom of speech (at least in the US) but this should be illegal. This girl is clearly mentally ill and to have people prey on her with “breatharianism” should be considered murder. This is really, really sad.

  • retrobanana

is anyone else scared? Barbie was pretty tho.

  • Guest

    Jesus Christ..

  • jenp

I heard she actually thinks she’s a Pleiadian alien/God whatever. She’s into The Billy Meier cult and they believe aliens don’t need to eat because they’ve reached a higher plane of existence and can absorb energy telepathically. Nuts.

  • Roxy Lowe

    She really needs help 🙁

  • kennedy

damn she doesn’t even look good she’s looks like a cartoon if i definitely prefer my face and body 10000000000 times

  • lonelyheroine

On the flip side of water abstaining are those who become addicted to drinking water and consume far, far too much. The blood thins, the organs suffer and it can be fatal if nobody intervenes. Conversely, no water turns your blood into sludge.

  • snarkylarky

LMAOOOO.,…like we needed her ridiculousness on this planet anyways.

  • Michelle

Can’t believe she is missing one of the best pleasures on earth: food

  • Janeyy

    dafuq did i just read.

  • tinkaeh

The sad thing is, she does not even look like Barbie in the face, she is not even pretty with the makeup she is doing? She needs to switch it up!!

    • I know right. Barbies facial features are soft and rounded, not sharp and pointed. A real face would need to be a little broader to achieve the roundness.

  • aline

Well no need to say that I agree with the comments about her being mentally ill.
But I just had to say that she isn’t 23 😀 she’s around 28, and the fun (or, the worst for her) part will start very soon

  • tequilla

the sad thing is i saw her pics before surgery, she was such a pretty, lean angelic looking girl! but hey, its her life..

  • lenac

Goodness, can nobody see that she photoshops the hell out of herself?! In my country (Russia) Valeria is a well-known freak, she is a pathological liar so don’t trust a single thing she says, she eats food like everyone else. She just needs attention and is completely bonkers, also addicted to the photoshop “liquify” filter.

  • Cinnamon

This mess is crazy I think she’s sending out a wrong message for girls. How is she going to look when she gets older…. Wait I take that back she’s not going to be around long living off light and air wtf is wrong with these people…

  • Vanessa Baltazar

She is so creepy looking. Omg, imagine waling into your house and she is sitting on your couch. She is so delusional.

  • j

I’ve head about this person before, a few years back.
What I read last time is that she is quite hated in her own country. She is as narcissistic as you can get and cant hold down friends because of it. She constantly has petty fallouts with them over the internet and posts all the chat logs hoping to embarrass them in front of their ‘fans’. She photoshops all of her pictures and apparently gets a bit crazy if somebody posts an un-photo shopped pic of her. I also think there may have been a man in the picture back then who paid for her surgery and took photos of her etc but I can’t remember for definite. Anyway, it seemed like a hoax to me. She doesnt really look like her pictures at all, its all tricks.

  • Barbie’s perfection aside, you can not have a (single) average size in a population. There are at least 2-3 different body sizes that are so frequent, all will be considered quite average. Average estimation of a single size is for the overall population, and you can not see the entire population all at once, therefore the true average can never be seen at its full extent. Let’s say a group of 18/30 people are fat. That is 18 fat and 13 slim. Both are still common, even if one is somewhat more common that the other. Are you going to ignore the 13 slimmer ones found in the
    same group?

Invariably different parts of a country have different weight averages as well. So it’s too restricted to use single size for every part of a country.

People don’t understand the concept of average.
