Rose Byrne: “In this business, you’re constantly being told things about your appearance”

rose1 - Rose Byrne: "In this business, you’re constantly being told things about your appearance"

On her concept of beauty:

Beauty comes from within. It’s a cliché, but I think it’s true. However, in this business, it’s hard to reconcile that when you’re constantly being told things about your appearance, whether it’s that you are too pretty or too plain or too brunette or whatever the problem is.

On how women are scrutinized for their looks:

Absolutely! Increasingly! Look at Hillary Clinton. She has to spend time getting her hair and makeup done whereas a male candidate doesn’t have to do that as much. Or at least as much grooming. It really is this very old concept that we are valued for putting ourselves together and presenting ourselves.

I agree with her, especially the second thing she said. It’s sad that people are commenting on Hillary’s appearance when she’s running for president, when no one has anything to say about a male candidate no matter how fat/ugly he is. Same with Michelle Obama, getting called “fat” and other horrible untrue things, by men who are clearly obese, sweaty, gross, with cherry red faces like they are some type of looker themselves.
But at the same time I find it weird that this quote came with this shoot. She’s definitely showing off her body and appearance rather than the inner beauty she talks about.

I think she’s really pretty. That being said I am kind of over people saying women have it so hard and I can’t believe people expect so much.

I don’t over do makeup or really take an unreasonable amount of time to get ready, I’m pretty low maintenance but I enjoy fixing myself up before I go out of the house. It doesn’t feel like a chore to me, I like having smooth legs and clean hair and makeup on. It’s not that anyone expects it of me but that I feel better.

I am not abble to watch a movie unless the actress is TRULY talented or incredibly pretty… If not, what a lost of time of mine. It drives my boyfriend crazy but i dont care. I dont like to see something that doesnt inspires me in any ways. It is just normal. I dont want to see someone NORMAL. I wanna see, audrey hepburn, nathalie Portman, rachel weisz, kiera knightley, etc. Not a random woman that can be my neighbor… come on! Wake up!!!!!!!

Funny, smart, beautiful. I’ve made the same observation about Hilary and I think it’s a good example.

Another would be about athletes that people criticize for being big. Their goal isn’t to look “hot,” it’s to win the match or jump the highest or throw the furthest, and that’s what they work toward. I like that.
