On living a healthy life:

I think it’s really important to be happy, and I think women get happy by being authentic. But I also believe in exercise, eating well, drinking lots of water, sex, sleeping and being around people who make you feel good. And I think that glow that you get in life comes from a combination of all those things.

Gwyneth Paltrow: “We have organic snacks and we have Oreos, too”

On how people think she is much more strict with her diet than she actually is:

“We are a pretty balanced house. I mean, kids eat sugar. That’s how it goes. So we have organic snacks and we have Oreos, too, so… I think there’s a lot of misinformation about what I actually eat. I really don’t have any rules. I really believe in delicious food and enjoying life and not saying no to anything. But at the same time, you know, I think it’s important to understand what good nutrition does and make sure you maintain a balance. For me the big things are really processed food and foods that have tons of chemicals and pesticides. I try to stay away from that, but I love French fries and cheese and martinis and all that kind of thing.”

Gwyneth Paltrow to Tracey Anderson: “You look like some kind of swimsuit model, but you’re really a scientist”

On Tracy’s best advice to her:

“When I started, I was doing it six days a week because I was trying to get in shape for Iron Man. I remember there was a certain point when I felt like I was going to cry. I just physically and mentally couldn’t do it anymore. It was too hard for me. You said to me, ‘Don’t even think of it like that. It’s not an option. It’s like brushing your teeth. You get up and do it.’ I had such a powerful shift that day. You showed me how to take the option out of it and make it something you do for self care as a woman who wants to feel good in her body and feel healthy and feel strong. That was a really inspirational thing that you said to me that has really helped me and that I share with other people.”

On how Tracy inspires her:

“You look like some kind of swimsuit model, but you’re really a scientist. That’s how I see the Tracy Anderson lifestyle. [You know the regimen,] the food combinations, and the best exercise clothes, but you also have such great style. All of that will be available at the new East Hampton studio.”

Gwyneth Paltrow: “My food philosophy is: Nothing should be ruled out”

On her daily routine:

“My routine is the same every weekday. I drop my kids at school. I do an hour of dance cardio, then I go to work. For lunch I usually have a big salad with grilled chicken, and then for dinner I’ll have whatever I want. Most nights I eat with the kids, like, a stir-fry of chicken and broccoli or pasta or roast chicken and potatoes.”

On loving herself:

“I believe, as cheesy as it sounds, in exercise, laughing, having sex, being yourself. I feel way more comfortable in a bathing suit now than I did 20 years ago!”

On eating everything:

“My food philosophy is: Nothing should be ruled out. I don’t believe in saying, ‘You’re not allowed that.’ If my kids want a Shirley Temple with the radioactive cherry in it, go for it, you know?”

… says Gwyneth in Women’s Health Magazine.

Gwyneth Paltrow Gives Pregnant Women Diet Advice

March 23, 2015 in Gwyneth Paltrow by Versus

Her food and weight-related advice to pregnant women:

Stick to an anti-inflammation diet. It’s really difficult to resist relaxing your vigilance over food when you’re pregnant—and depending on the pregnancy, you might find that you’re either insatiable, or are piling on the pounds, even if you’re exercising restraint. But, you will feel less pain in your body if you can stick with the weight gain doctors advise, which is just 2.2 pounds per month. This means an anti-inflammatory diet is more important than ever! During pregnancy, your ligament laxity increases, so your entire musculature has to work harder to support your mass, making things harder on your back and your whole body. Especially toward the end of pregnancy, every additional pound adds exponential pressure on your spine and pelvis. From the very beginning of your pregnancy, remind yourself that you don’t need a ton of food to sustain your baby.

And what you don’t eat can help you avoid heartburn. Stay away from cow’s milk dairy, rich fatty meats, pork, roasted peanuts and peanut butter, concentrated fruit juices (especially orange and tomato), and all wheat, sugar, and sweeteners. All these foods increase systemic inflammation (translation: hip and joint pain, swollen gums and feet), and all can give you a raging case of heartburn.
