Kelly Rohrbach: ‘The world is uncomfortable with a really-ugly-on-the-inside woman’

On becoming famous:

“I googled ‘top ten talent agencies.’ I just picked one, went there and got signed. I was like ‘Hey, I’d like an agent, would you like to be my agent?’ And they were like, ‘That’s not really how this works…but uh, sure.’”

On playing CJ in Baywatch:

“I love unlikeable characters. I find them fascinating. The world is uncomfortable with a really-ugly-on-the-inside woman. So uncomfortable. I that that’s funny.”

On the paparazzi on-set:

“I was like ‘God, I just wanna eat a bag of Doritos but there’s paparazzi everywhere, f*** it! It stunk because there was no privacy. My suit was that neoprene scuba gear material so it really rides up. They would use glue and tape it to my bum so it wouldn’t make a wedgie wrinkly. Everyday the paparazzi would shoot the costume designers doing the glue and there would be a picture of somebody with a brush, putting Elmer’s glue on my bum. I’m like, Guys I don’t think this is gonna get a lot of clicks. I am not famous.”

Blogger Nadia Aboulhosn Talks Confidence & Size

On what she loves most about her body:

“I can’t say my ankles because it sounds really weird, but I really love my ankles! (laughs) And I love my legs. I would say my legs. And my eyebrows, but they’re not really a body part!”

On whether she has always been confident and happy with her body:

“Yes I have, since I was a kid. I think it has a lot to do with parenting. And also, I am part Lebanese, and my body isn’t out of the norm of those beauty standards. I have never really felt like an outcast. It wasn’t until I got into this career that I felt I was different. No one really pointed it out until my blog became popular.”

On her insecurities:

“Yeah, I’ll pick at myself for certain things that I wouldn’t before. Like, ‘I want a bigger upper lip’ – but then I see someone with lip injections and I am like, wait a second, I am so cute already… (laughs) I don’t want to get caught up in that whirlwind.”

And an older quote coming from Nadia:

I’m technically not plus-size but I’m on the cusp. It’s something people use in the industry to label everyone else because they’re not used to somebody not being a size zero or two. “[People say] I’m fat, ugly, conceited. I come off like I’m conceited and cocky because I’m bigger, and [they] don’t think I should be. In every interview I do, I’m asked, ‘how are you so confident? You wouldn’t ask Rihanna that. You wouldn’t ask Beyoncé. People think, ‘why is she confident and I’m not happy with myself?’ Just because I’m bigger and society doesn’t accept people like me. Well, I still think I’m attractive. That’s not a conceited thing – that’s just, you know, you should think you’re pretty. You should be your number one fan.
