Tennis Star Marion Bartoli’s Dramatic Weight Loss

Untitleds-1

Here’s a story that is getting a lot of heat these days, featuring 31 year-old former tennis star Marion Bartoli, who looks dramatically different and much skinnier these days – and as always, the social media has not been kind. A few comments pointing out her transformation:

@_BeDeMo_ added: ‘What the hell happened to @bartoli_marion? Shocking to see her on @BBC #TodayAtWimbledon #Wimbledon’

@ClairevkVan added: ‘@bartoli_marion you do not look well. Please please put on some weight now. You are a naturally beautiful woman. Too thin is not helpful.’

@ScottishDoris wrote: ‘Marion Bartoli looks really unwell. Not caring what people say about body shaming etc, when you look as ill as she does you’ve gone too far.’

@bolshoi59 added: ‘@BBCSport I love Marion Bartoli but someone needs to have a word. That’s not healthy. Felt the same at the French. I mean, come on!’

Prior to her weight loss, BBC presenter John Inverdale made some unjustified and harsh comments live on the radio about Marion’s appearance while commentating on the tennis star’s straight-sets victory over Sabine Lisicki:

‘I wonder if her dad did say to her, “Listen, you’re never going to be a looker. You’re never going to be somebody like a Sharapova, you’re never going to be somebody with long legs, so you have to compensate for that.”’

While it is unknown whether the presenter’s comments had anything to do with Marion’s weight loss transformation, the tennis player had to defend herself this week on social media after receiving heavy criticism from her followers:

It has happened naturally. My natural frame is quite tiny, that is the way my mum and dad are. I have just gone back to my natural shape. All that shows you is the amount of effort I had to put in to become the tennis player I was. Before, I built the body I needed to win Wimbledon. I was where I wanted to be. I shaped it to become a champion – my body was about power. Now I’m sitting sketching all day rather than squat-lifting 200kg, so I’m not eating the same kind of food. When I played I fuelled my body – I used to eat more carbohydrates and drink sugary drinks on the court. Now I eat vegetables, salads, grains and protein shakes to give me energy for the gym.

Michael Bay Says Kate Beckinsale Is Not Beautiful Enough to Make Women Uncomfortable

The full story from Vanity Fair:

Back in 2001, Kate Beckinsale made her blockbuster breakthrough in Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor. And while the British actress was alluring enough to score countless magazine covers and the on-screen affection of, not one, but two of the film’s heartthrob stars, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett, Bay himself did not seem to appreciate the actress’s exquisite beauty.

“I don’t think I fit the type of actress Michael Bay had met before,” Beckinsale recalls of the Transformers filmmaker in a new interview on The Graham Norton Show. “I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blonde. I’d just had my daughter and had lost weight, but was told that if I got the part, I’d have to work out. And I just didn’t understand why a 1940s nurse would do that.”

Even after Bay presumably spent hundreds of hours staring at the actress during filming and post-production, he still was not able to acknowledge the actress’s looks.

“When we were promoting the film, Michael was asked why he had chosen Ben [Affleck] and Josh [Hartnett], and he said, ‘I have worked with Ben before and I love him, and Josh is so manly and a wonderful actor.’ Then when he was asked about me, he’d say, ‘Kate wasn’t so attractive that she would alienate the female audience.’ He kept saying it everywhere we went, and we went to a lot of places,” she added.

A quick fact-check proves Beckinsale right. In 2001, Bay sang both of his male stars’ praises to Movieline, saying that Affleck was perfect for the role because he “has what some of the fighter pilots I’d met had. . .They were so determined to do their jobs. And if the plane was broken, they were going up anyway, risking their lives.” Of Hartnett, Bay predicted that he’s “going to be f–king huge. He was great [in the movie].”

Movieline follows up by asking, “What made you choose Kate Beckinsale?” Dear readers, prepare for the cringe-fest.

I didn’t want someone who was too beautiful. Women feel disturbed when they see someone’s too pretty,” Bay, apparently a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies, said. “I’m not saying Kate’s not pretty. . .[she] is very funny, could hang with the guys. She’s not so neurotic about everything, like some actresses.”

As if insulting the star of his own movie was not enough, Bay then brought up another fine British actress and future Oscar winner who is also objectively beautiful.

When you look at Titanic, Kate Winslet is pretty, but not overwhelmingly beautiful,” Bay explained. “That makes it work better for women.”

Is Adele Trying to Lose More Weight?

Adele-weight-loss

The full story from Daily Mail:

She once declared she would never lose weight because of pressure from the music industry. But as it was reported that she has just signed a record-breaking £90 million deal, Adele was doing a very good impersonation of someone on a diet. Accepting one of five accolades at the Billboard Music Awards, the singer looked stunningly svelte – a contrast to the curvier look she sported when she first found fame.

The Mail can today reveal the secret behind this weight loss: The Sirtfood Diet and a fitness plan from trainer Pete Geracimo – whose clients include David Hasselhoff and Kim Cattrall. The diet, which Mr Geracimo recommends, encourages slimmers to eat plant foods, such as kale and buckwheat, known as sirtuin activators, which suppress appetite and activate the body’s ‘skinny gene’. This is the same process caused by fasting or exercise and the sirtuins – also known as ‘housekeeping genes’ – help control the way our bodies handle fat and sugar, regulating appetite as a result.

The eating plan complements a gruelling gym regime and sees Adele consume the likes of green tea, cocoa powder and turmeric, that are high in sirtuin activators. But, anyone worried the singer, 28, is being pressured into starving herself in the name of beauty can rest easy: The diet still allows her to indulge in her favourite red wine and cheese.

A source said: ‘The Sirtfood Diet is all about losing weight and feeling fantastic through eating great-tasting food. It’s based on extensive research into the power of key plant foods, which when added to our diet turn on fat burning and improve wellbeing.’
