On plastic surgery & Botox:

‘Never say never – and I certainly don’t judge anyone who does it. But most of the characters I play are going through some kind of emotional turmoil, so my job requires me to have expression. If my face was froze, what right do I have to play that part? All the women who haven’t done anything to their faces are still able to play great roles. And some of the ones who have done something have messed it up- they look freakish. Anyway, for me it’s about playing women with rich lives – and the longer the life, the deeper the wrinkles.’

On keeping her slim figure:

‘I do Pilates, dance-cardio and yoga to keep in good form. I also play tennis because I love the sport. The competitive side to it makes it much more fun than just doing workouts.’

… says 44 year-old Naomi in Good Health Magazine.

I LOVE that last outfit. She is so cute and seems pretty reasonable in her statements. Often times when a celebrity speaks it just makes me not like them at all, but I like what she says here.

Even before reading this quote, when I saw images of her on the red carpet at one of the award events recently, I thought I could tell that she hasn’t had work done, she doesn’t have that weird puffiness that smushes the eyes like some other stars her age (Nicole Kidman, Courtney Cox). I like the little wrinkles she has around her eyes, and her body looks great, as does her sense of style.

    • ayu

Oh, I always thought she was younger than them! Looks good.

Love her! She was so amazing in I Heart Huckabees. She’s really beautiful and was soo funny in that movie. I really like her light pink pants too. I think she has a great shape and this is a nice quote. Calling anyone freakish isn’t the nicest thing but she’s right. Some women turn out looking like aliens and there’s no going back. My aunt, a beautiful ‘high society’ woman got plastic surgery from a guy who’s supposed to be the best and now she can’t close her eyes, and she looks like she’s bug eyed all the time or surprised or something. Too bad ’cause she was gorgeous before!

p.s. anyone know where to get really comfy gladiator sandals like the ones she’s wearing in the last pic? love them

  • I wish I could be completely non-judgemental about plastic surgery, but I’m not there yet!
Naomi looks great and she’s a very talented actress – I hope she never has anything done.

  • Pixie

    She looks great! 🙂

“And some of the ones who have done something have messed it up- they look freakish” …. is she talking about her best friend Nicole Kidman?

    • Miss x

I was thinking the same thing:)

    • southerngumdrops

that’s the first thing that came to my mind too!!

  • Ellie

    SHE’S 44?
Hot dayumm, I always thought she was around 32-35. She’s very pretty and simple 🙂

I love when actresses talk about how they supposedly can’t use Botox because it interferes with their acting potential.

The reality is, Botox is very rarely used nowadays and very rarely recommended by plastic surgeons. Fillers have pretty much replaced Botox in terms of wrinkle control, and fillers don’t freeze muscle, and can look very natural if done in limited amounts.

I am not saying Naomi Watts is like this, but a lot of these actresses scorning Botox are regularly getting fillers. Which, as far as the average person’s opinion is concerned, is the same thing…it’s work that you’re getting done to look more youthful.

But celebrities seem to rationalize fillers as “not plastic surgery” and then brag about how they don’t get Botox.

    • southerngumdrops

so true. just like all those women who quip “i’ve never had plastic *surgery”!

yeah, well all those fillers in your face aren’t exactly surgery, but they’re pretty darn close when you overdo them so much

I can only hope to look as good/young/fresh as her when I’m 44 and have had 2 kids! She always looks great, dressed casually or glammed up. LOVED her dress at the Oscars this year.

  • anushka

Shes right about the freakish part.

I met this woman who knows my mom at a party and she came to speak to me. She was saying really sweet stuff but her face made me feel like she wanted to slap me in reality. I could tell there was something off ( from 10ft away) and i asked my mom. -.-

Shes really pretty though, just lacking expression.
Botox takes away the sexiness that genuine joy brings to the face.

  • annemarie

She looks great. And is one of very few celebrities who look good with bleached blonde hair.

  • Megan

Interesting that her BFF is known for tons of Botox. Awkward!

  • mary

    shes a good actress

  • Tisha

is she the one who played Galadriel in LOTR…I can never tell who the actress is lol
Anyways…Nothing I haven’t heard before…especially regarding the plastic surgery. She is imo a good but not great actress. She is pleasing to the eyes but not especially beautiful facially. I like her lol…Her body looks good and I would not mind having her legs…

    • annemarie

      No, Cate Blanchett played Galadriel.

  • Tally

    Dang im diggn her style

    • Tally

O and her legs are perfection imo <3

  • Good point! It’s hard to say ‘never’ until you begin to age. I do know many dramatic actresses have forgone Botox for the specific reason to keep their faces expressive. But Botox is not the only answer when you want or need facial rejuvenation. Eyelifts, browlifts, and fillers, among other procedures can work wonders without lessening expressions. By the way, Botox does completely freeze your face. That is a myth. Ms Watts certainly looks great, and needless to say, 44 is not that old! It is wise of her to take this stance on cosmetic surgery, you never know, right? Her great genetics aside, cosmetic surgery is a personal decision a person makes. Hopefully he or she researches the surgeon and facility to be safe and have a successful outcome.
