Demi Lovato Works Out 4 Hours Every Day

FFN_vcv_52108527 - Demi Lovato Works Out 4 Hours Every Day

The full story from People:

Lovato has been working out religiously at L.A.’s Unbreakable Performance Center (where Nick and Joe Jonas also work out) for the past nine months, and has called the gym her “oasis” on Instagram.

“This is her safe haven,” Unbreakable’s founder Jay Glazer tells PEOPLE. “Demi will be here for four hours a day. It’s her one place where she doesn’t have to be a pop star. She’s talked a lot about her addictions, and this has become her healthy addiction. She lights up when she comes in here.”

And while Lovato wanted to lean up, her main focus was learning how to fight.

“She’s more coachable than most of our fighters,” says Glazer. “She doesn’t put ego in, she does it right — and she is vicious!”

Lovato will start her session with an hour-and-a-half of mixed martial arts.

“Depending on the day of the week, we’ll do boxing, Muay Thai, ground fighting and/or Brazilian jujitsu,” says Glazer. “Then she’ll do some sort of recovery, and then she’ll go do her performance workout.”

Lovato’s performance workout focuses on full-body toning, so she does exercises with high reps and low weights, with little rest in between.

“It’s very intense,” says Glazer. “It’s three different exercises three times through with no rest. She’ll do a push, a pull and lower body move, so let’s say a chest push, a pull for your back, and then some sort of squat, but something low-impact that won’t bulk her. At the end we’ll do abs.”

Following her workout, Lovato does 30 minutes of recovery including I.V. therapy twice a week, cryotherapy two or three times a week, Phoenix Thera-Lase medical laser therapy each day that penetrates six inches into the body to encourage healing and reduce swelling and inflammation, and massaging recovery sleeves every day.

“She goes through the plan perfectly,” says Glazer. “She’s never been late, she shows up, she helps everybody. She’s incredible.”

I don’t think you can consider 4 hours/day at the gym a “healthy addiction”.

i could understand being there for 4 hours a day (i used to spend 4-5 hours where i did sports, but only trained for 2-3 because i was doing other things), but actually working out for that long seems obsessive. an IV drip to recover from exercise? really?

They got IV’s to recover from a night of partying, so why not working out? Jk, yeah it’s a bit nuts.

Just what somebody who has supposedly recovered from an ED needs…

Switching from an ED to working out 4 hours a day doesn’t seem healthy to me.

IG is plagued with accounts of ex-anorexics that are now super buffed and “recovered”. I don’t think the praise helps. ED are mental. Maybe you’re out of anorexia, but if you’re having obsessive behavior around your body I think you still have issues. You’re just canalizing it on a different way.

She was bulimic, cutting, lying and doing coke, while out of hand with her career.
She’s better with the gym option.

I totally get that. But the lessen of the evils doesn’t make it a “healthy” addiction.

It is healthier physically, but can still cause mental/emotional stress and depression

Guys, let’s ignore the fact that seeing her body I don’t believe this and let’s stick to the quote….. ….This is the best you can do to yourself when you have addiction. Unfortunately, addicts don’t have the luxury of choice as much as people who didn’t develop that kind of brain wiring. Once you have it, it’s gonna be there. I really feel the addict lifestyle here, and this is honestly the best way she has to survive and function. Going borderline with healthy dopamine-releasing activities with a schedule, surrounded by people, and putting commitment and effort. Doing a line of… Read more »

Meh, I call that swapping seats on the Titanic.
I used to be a severe hypochondriac. Then suddenly I was “cured” of that, and developed anorexia.
Ultimately, you’re not healing yourself by trading one coping mechanism for another. Sure, short term she’s better off hitting the gym than doing lines of coke, but can she keep that up for life? Let’s say she gets injured, and can’t work out. What then?

I’m a little confused by this comment.. There is recovery for addiction, not just playing whack-a-mole with addictions as “the best you can do”. I am in recovery and have been undergoing trauma therapy and abstaining from all addictions with support. I cringe when I see the replacement for addictions… in things that seem “healthy” relationships, exercise, and other things taken to the extreme level. I think it’s important to call this out and seek help for the underlying issues of codependency and trauma that often fuel it… and I’m in the same boat of managing the urges to act… Read more »

And from what I hear, she’s rampaging through dating fighters at the gym. Already off and on with Luke Rockhold and now she is on her way with another UFC fighter. God bless her.

so she traded purging-tye bulimia for exercise bulimia. good for her ??? also, she must eat like absolute crap (or have frequent binge episodes) because that’s not the body of someone who works out 4 hours a day and eats normally. i hope, for her sake, she finds some balance.

I hope too.

My thought exactly! She does not look like someone who works out four hours a day.

I used to do competitive swimming in high school and college. I was training every day (not for four hours though) and I usually ate huge meals. I didn’t have much fat though. A lot of muscle. I was pretty bulky you could say (round 125 at 5’4”). What I’m saying is that “eating normally” when you’re working out so much means you eat a lot!! So I get how she might not lose weight. However, I suspect her working out that much is because she has a binge eating problem… She should probably get therapy and medication for it… Read more »

They are the latest sets of photos the agency had of Demi – the oldest ones are the bikini ones, which were taken in the summer of 2016.

Morally superior? I feel like you’re displacing a hell of a lot of feelings on Veronique, who has been a longtime user and has posted posted about her ED numerous times. I don’t think she needs you to “show you how it is”; she knows. Just because she views the situation differently than you do doesn’t mean she ignorant.

You’re always going to relapse if you fail to develop healthy, adaptive coping skills.

Oh. Another smartass. You don’t know and you are not interested clearly, fair enough. Attacked nobody.

Yeah, we’re all a bunch of smartasses here simply because we disagree with you. We have no idea how eating disorders work or how those with addictions feel despite have them ourselves. Have a good one.

Apparently in this site an opinion isn’t valid if it isn’t attached to an extract of your bio and you must be biased if it differs from someone else’s *eye roll*. Sorry for being snarky, but as a frequent user I also get this type of personal assumptions regularly.

There are A LOT of things said on here that I disagree with, but I never assume the person saying them has less knowledge or experience with the topic (okay, barring any completely ignorant comments). I think some people really cannot grasp that two people could have eerily similar lives and yet still develop entirely different perspectives on something.

I feel really bad for her. If this story is true..then, I see a couple of problems going on. 1. she has transferred her other additions to exercise… 2. She also must be in an addictive cycle of extreme eating, because, no one who works out 4 hours a day looks like that. She is very heavy right now. Now, granted, she is blessed with a nice hourglass figure, but her lower half is VERY heavy right now…. She certainly doesn’t seem like she’s got it together….

I definitely understand what you are saying here. Anorexia is not an addiction, but it is a maladaptive coping mechanism, similar to (my view at least) an addiction in that regard. So I get it, the need to have SOMETHING to distract from your pain. I would say that the compulsion to exercise obsessively, in the way you have described, sounds like a life of pure hell and I hope you can find the help you deserve to live a full life, because you are in a prison of sorts, it seems to me. I am as well, and I… Read more »
