Drew Barrymore: “I’m definitely going to be 5 to 10 pounds overweight”

drewmc1 - Drew Barrymore: "I’m definitely going to be 5 to 10 pounds overweight"

On cooking:

I looooooove cookbooks. I cook a lot when I’m pregnant. When I got pregnant the first time, I couldn’t even boil water. Now I can make the most spectactular slow-roasted pork tacos you will ever have, an incredible verde sauce with ancho chilies — so f—ing good. A Greek yogurt pie with lemon zest and pepper filling on a gingersnap crust with black seedless grape compote. Amazing!

On not prioritizing having a thin figure:

You don’t get to do everything all at once and all the time. Life doesn’t work that way. I’m definitely going to be 5 to 10 pounds overweight. I’ll be thrilled if my husband is pleased with me that day, if my kid feels like she came first, and if I accomplished something at my job. Then I can hit the sack. My body is never going to be all that and a bag of chips. I will never be that woman who gets up at 5am to exercise. I’d rather curl up with my husband and my dogs.

… says pregnant Drew in Marie Claire.

I think she has a healthy, respectable attitude and good priorities. Kind of like Hilary Duff.

      And pretty lips!

  • Elena

Yeah, I agree with the above. She always seemed to me an old soul. I really like her.

  • Snugglepup

She’s very likable and sweet, her priorities are healthy as I don’t think her body is the main attraction in her image. Sounds very down to earth and happy.

I can’t help but love drew. She is super pretty, always had a nice figure, and her attitude is down to Earth. She is also kind of cute and funky with her attitude, and it’s so endearing. Gorgeous skin, hair and face. Nice body too. I laughed at ‘all that and a bag of chips’ …cute. It’s true though, if that’s not your priority then why go out of your way to make it like a chore. You can still be perfectly happy, healthy and sexy without going overboard.

  • so glad she is prioritizing being happy and not caving to hollywood pressures! I wish there were more quotes from celebs like this. Once you feel confident and happy in yourself, exercising feels like something good you are doing for your body, rather than some desperate rat race to be skinny and fit. I wish everyone’s priority was to feel happy and healthy (in whatever form that took for them). The world would be a better place.

    Love her!!!

drew is so sweet, i always like her, her face is so fresh and she’s pretty overall.

I love her! I can relate to not being the type of person who wakes up at 5a.m. to exercise. I don’t think I’ll ever be that person. Exercise is important but it has to fit into my schedule and I value sleep and social contact over it. Back to Drew, I think she is so unique, she has this quality, very magnetizing. But I never noticed how short her legs were. I saw the first pic and thought maybe it was just the angle, then scrolling down there they are again in the last pic! Can’t believe I never noticed.

  • I’ve always loved her – she just has such a good attitude and seems like a sweet, fun, down-to-earth person. I agree about the weight – being a little overweight is nothing to worry about and getting up at 5am to workout is not for everyone – and that’s nothing to be ashamed of!

My brother lives in LA, and I sat at a table near Drew and her husband and baby at a brunch spot in WeHo in April. 1) She is super sweet. Sweet to the staff. Talks in that lispy, side mouth way that they impersonate on SNL. 2) She is a very average sized person. There’s really no other way to put it. She’s not thin, she’s NOT chubby, she’s just very middle of the road body wise. 3) She is very cute in the face in person, and believe it or not her husband is actually quite hot (I wasn’t impressed by him until I saw him in person). She was cooing over her baby, and genuinely seemed content 🙂

  • Mia

She’s adorable and seems down to earth. No need for busy parents to wake up at 5am to go to the gym if they don’t feel like it. There are other ways to stay active and healthy – health doesn’t have to feel like torture or a chore. Anyway, I doubt she will end up overweight anyway. All she has to do is eat sensibly and move around a little during the day and she will go back to her normal weight, which seems totally healthy to me.
p.s. I loathe the term “knocked up”.

  • MerryHappy

    Aww. Drew. :]
She’s like everyone’s best friend. And I love how she is so reasonable in her thoughts and accepting of who she is as a person. She’s a good role model now, imo, but back in the day she was a wild child who could put Miley to shame. She looks very classic on the cover, like Rosemary Clooney in White Christmas.

  • Veronique

Her priorities are on point, love her attitude. She seems genuinely sweet, like a cool person I’d want to hang out with.

Lets change the quote a little: “i’m definitely going to be 5 to 10 lbs underweight…”

What would people think then? I get it, overweight is the “every woman” and underweight is the “other”.

    • Jay

that would be totally different.. maintaining a figure 5-10 pounds underweight requires a lot of effort. being 5-10 overweight does not.

her whole point is that her figure isn’t her highest priority. if she had said she would be underweight that would mean her weight is a big priority.

      • wonderwoman21

That’s true and that is definitely the context in which she means it but my point is that female celebrities often butterup their image with “oh i’m slightly overweight” in order to relate to the public; meanwhile if any actress admitted to purposely maintaining an underweight figure she would be alienating herself. It’s just an annoying tactic to me in which weight is used to sound more relatable to the public; in essense Drew (and others) are telling us they’re not really those skinny dieted Hollywood women (those “other” women) and that they’re like “us” because of their extra pudge (which may or may not actually exist).
