Emma Stone: “I was kind of born with a 10-year-old boy’s body”

Untitled-3

Untitled-1

Emma Stone recently made a few interesting comments about her figure – details from Radar:

Well, I was kind of born with a 10-year-old boy’s body. For years, I was like: ‘Please let me grow some kind of curvature!’ But it did not happen. I mean, I’ve kind of given up the ghost on that one. It’s not happening… I wish. I’d kill for some cha-chas and a tuckus! Then, I had stress-acne when I was 20, when I did Easy A, which they kindly video-airbrushed out of the movie. I still really like [spray tanning too]. But it definitely makes me look like I have leprosy after a point.’

Emma is definitely looking skinny these days, but her figure has changed quite noticeably from a few years ago:

Well.. I think she has curves, so i dont know what shes talking about. She looks great though.

    • Liana

I don’t think she has curves, but she definitely doesn’t look like a 10 year old boy. She is just thin, but it is how she’s built and it fits her perfectly. She’s adorable.

    • MissMarilyn

I don’t really see much curves… but she works what she’s got! I love Emma Stone, she is absolutely gorgeous and I think she looks terrific at any weight!

I dooo prefer her with the red hair though haha. But she looks good blonde too.

      • nekatek

I love the red hair on her too, but she’s actually naturally blonde. Not neccesarily this color blonde though.

    • guru

she looked like trailer trash in 2006. srsly bleached blonde hair really ups her appearance. and her face also looks softer now, it has more structure and better fat deposition in the right places. in 2006 her face looked hard and her skin looked like tough trailer park skin

      • CheezeLaweeze

“tough trailer park skin” hahahaha. that’s seriously the most nonsense description but i love it! bahahah.

  • Lex

Can she explain why she looks like the 10 year old boy hasn’t had enough to eat these last 3 years?

    • sickofskinny

I totally agree. If you want some curves, eat the way you did a few years ago. At least then you’ll look like a woman and not a pre-teen.

      • Casey

I think that’s somewhat of a narrow-minded thing to say.

First off, even though she is slim, she does look like she eats. Slim =/= starvation. She is not a completely bony 90 pound woman where you can say she is depriving herself concretely.

Second of all, I think what she was trying to say is that she doesn’t have the body shape that is curvy. For some people, even if they gain 50 pounds, they will not look like Sofia Vergara.

I do think she is somewhat curvy, but at the same time she is not the best example of it. There are much curvier women in the world. I would consider even Candice to be curvier, even though Candice weighs less. But that’s because of body type.

And third of all, sometimes curves aren’t worth it. Perhaps she eats healthy and cleanly. Maybe what she was trying to say is she wish she had effortless curves…which some people do have.

Some people can get curves (although, again, not all), but at what cost?

        • Em

She’s definitely depriving herself, and I can say that concretely. You can’t be that thin without having a super clean, super low calorie diet with almost no daily indulgences.

          • Alyssa

She was curvy in The House bunny (2005) and Medium (2007), which she is semi-topless in

She had breasts and a rounder look.

            She is very skinny now.
And she has smaller breasts now, along with smaller thighs, arms and waist.

Also, her face is slimmer as well.

But even the way she looked with some weight on, she still really didn’t have curves. If you look up the the form fitting red carpet dresses she’s worn, let’s say the 2011 Golden Globes, where she’s a few pounds heavier, she still has a flat bum and not much going on in the chest area either.

      • Annette

She’s obviously refering to her body shape. I’d still consider her curveless at her highest weight, in fact, I’d say Kirsten Stewart is curvier. Don’t really think Emma ever looks boyish though because her frame is too delicate, which is why she can pull off the super skinny.

  • Christiana

I don’t agree with her comment. She just became like a 10 year old boy. She hasn’t always been thin like that. She definitely lost A LOT OF WEIGHT! I used to think she hated dieting & exercising but I think she did get the hollywood treatment and dieted.

She does looks OK though. I wouldn’t mind having her thin body.

    • jemima

I agree. I don’t think she should complain about being flat if she lost so much weight…

      • Anne

I think she looks OK too. She doesn’t look deathly or ill. Just…skinnier. Her weight loss didn’t alter her other than physically. And personality wise, she still seems the same. I think she’s still quite likeable. She never really does or says anything problematic, is not stumbling out of clubs drunk and getting caught with drugs, I haven’t heard or read any complaints about her work ethic and I still think she’s one of the better actresses in her age group. So what if she’s lost a little weight? I’d take skinnier Emma any day than a scandal ridden Emma.

    • Neri

      Exactly.

  • Effie

I’m not looking to defend her, but I will say this: I was watching Superbad the other day (2007/2008?), and I thought, ‘Emma Stone looks heavier’, but she was still very ‘straight’ up and down – flat bum, small boobs.

When I gain weight, I don’t get more curves, I just get more general pudge. Emma has lost some but I think she means she has quite a block-y build. It’s just a shame these actresses feel the need to compare themselves to prepubescent boys, because these body shapes are just as much ‘real woman’ shapes as any other.

    • Heather

I agree. When I gain weight, I don’t transform into sexpot curvy girl. I’m just heavier all over. She’s obviously purposely staying this thin, it isn’t as if she’s eating burgers and just can’t gain weight. She doesn’t have the Candace WHR or Sophia Vergara raw sex appeal. But she isn’t naturally that skinny … is that what she’s insinuating?

  • La la la la

well, she didn’t really have much in the way of a chest when she was heavier either. and i’m guessing not much of a bum. i think she might be telling the truth! although the skinniness is not “how she was born”, her shape is in fact pretty non curvy no matter what weight. she can’t act like she’s always been thin though. and her mom isn’t skinny soo.. she can act like she was born underweight but i don’t buy it.

  • natascha

Since she doesnt really have any curves i can totally understand why she would rather be thin than having a boyish figure AND fat !

    • Hayley

Yeah, because she was SO FAT in the 2006-2007 pictures. *sarcasm*

    • Emilie

Agreed. Non curvy women look better when they are skinny imo. At least, they have a modelesque silhouette. Maybe that’s what she wanted? Personally I don’t like her face when she’s heavier

    • Nobsnob

In 2006-2007 she was already slim and imo looked better and healthier than now!!
She looks too fragile now, she has lost that “cute girl next door” thing, she’s rail thin and blonde like every Hollywood starlet.

  • elida

How can someone make such a comment about themselves? I think she has a great figure and looks nothing like a “10 year old boy”. She’s beautiful.

  • Em

She’s a cute girl at either weight – she’s lucky she can pull off either size. I lost weight a few years ago and looked terrible – my upper body looked scrawny and emaciated, but my legs stayed true to a pear’s shape. It sucked. I can’t have thin legs whether I am 100 or 120 lbs., but at least at 115 my upper body doesn’t look quite so disproportionate to my lower body. I only lose weight in my already thin upper-half of my body, which seems strange. Don’t most people lose weight a little everywhere?

I call BS on the quote, though. She’s more naturally inclined to be a medium-framed girl. The scrawniess is caused by her low weight, not “genetics.”

    • Em

      *scrawniness

    • Lorraine

I agree, she looks cute at both sizes, and even when she had more pounds on her frame, it still remained pretty rectangular (not a lot of boob or bum going on). But I think she looked nice as well, and I do prefer her as a redhead.

And no, people can gain/lose weight depending on their frame. I’m a pear shape as well, and when I lost 18-20 pounds once, my upper half looked emanciated, and my legs only started getting thinner because I was not at a healthy weight. After gaining it all back over a period of a couple of years, I gained another 20 or so pounds because of stress eating (thank you university), and I only noticed it on my stomach, my legs remained pretty much the same, and they always do. The only thing I can do about it is tone them up a little, so they look nicer, but that’s about it.
      You’re not alone 😛

      • Mishael

Haha, Lorraine, I gained some 10 pounds on my first year at university too. I was constantly sleep-deprived and stressed. I ate a lot. It was how I got energy.
And i am a pear as well. Though my disproportion is not very distict. I always face dilemma: to gain weight to 120lb and have some B cup boobs and curvier legs. Or stay at 112-115lb with A cup breasts and slim/ quite thin legs.

        • Em

That’s what I’ve been doing lately – I’ve been eating a lot to pick up my energy levels. I always feel really tired if I’m not eating small frequent meals. I’d prefer a non-calorie source of energy, but no luck with that. I fall asleep if I’m not eating, which puts a damper on my inner urge to eat very litte. Haha. I’m making cookies now muahahaha. My fast metabolism is my only saving grace. 😉

          • misscheeks

What kind of cookies are they Em? 🙂 Sounds yummy…you better save some for me. -_-

          • Em

Sugar cookies, misscheeks! I only had 4 (or 5), haha! Not too bad. 😉 Yeah, I saved 1 for you!…only 1 because I’m sure you know, “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.” 😉
Check your email! There’s one delicious cookie awaiting you in your inbox haha.

  • Jess

I’ve been a fan of Emma for a while and seen some photos of her from a few years back, I think during The House Bunny promo, where her body shape is exactly what it is now. Then she gained some weight (Zombieland) and lost some again (see Easy A press photos)…and it repeats. She never seems to gain more than 10 pounds and when she does, it definitely shows in her hips and thighs. I can see why she said that about her body though just seeing as how her body as transitioned over the years. This is definitely the most skinny she’s ever been, but she’s not scary skinny so I think she looks fine and more mature and grown up even, where as before it still seemed like she was trying to find her footing between being young but trying to look like an adult (her off duty style is better now too, never girly but feminine and put together).

  • Amanda

The quote from her posted here is chucked together and edited and seems awkward. Here’s the full quotes where she talks about her body shape:

Switching gears yet again, how do you stay healthy? Do you have a workout regimen?
“Well, I was kind of born with a 10-year-old boy’s body. For years, I was like, ‘Please let me grow some kind of curvature!’ But it did not happen. So…this is my natural form for the most part. I’m sure that will change as the years go on. But, yeah, I have a boy body. I work out when I’m in a movie…like on Spider-Man, they get you a trainer, which is awesome, so then I do it. But, if there isn’t someone yelling in my face then ‘m just not into it. Pilates is the one thing that makes me happy while I’m doing it. But other than that, it puts me in a bad mood to lift stuff over my head. I hate it. But it is important to do it for my health, so I need to do it more.”

Do you tend to dress with the goal of creating curves?
“I mean, I’ve kind of given up the ghost on that one. It’s not happening. So, I just kind of wear whatever I’m drawn to. There are no illusions there. I wish. I’d kill for some cha-chas and a tuckus!”

you can read the whole interview here:

    • Amanda

      chunked*

    • Em

It’s still not entirely true, even in the context of the full quote. She’s really just trying to pass off her current (under weight) body as being au naturel, which it is not.

If anything, her natural form is a bit broad. You can see in the above pictures her shoulders are broad, and her neck is short and thick. She’s not naturally dainty – if anything, she has to be very underweight to achieve a dainty look, like Cyrus – naturally Emma has a husky build (or, form), not a 10-year-old’s build.

      • Layla Bach

I think by “form” and “10-year old boy body” she means her shape which makes sense because she says she wishes she had curves. She’s given up on trying to exercise to get them because of her shape. Of course, this is only what I think. 🙂

        • Em

In any case, I wouldn’t equate having a ruler-shaped body with having a little boy’s body. She doesn’t have the body of a boy or a child. This kind of self-deprecating BS is just attention-seeking.

  • katy

curves or not, she has definitely lost weight in the past two years, imo she’s a bit too thin now. I prefer her with brown hair than when it’s red or blonde

  • JJ

‘Stress acne’? Ok. I’m going to call it because I know from experience. ED. Definitely a possibility. It sounds exactly like what happened to me. I looked exactly like her after picture, I wasn’t healthy at all.

    • MissMarilyn

But keep in mind that stress acne is actually a very common thing

      • Neri

        I can vouch for that… :/

  • Megan

Thank you so much for posting this, @Versus. I always thought she was curvier and had lost weight but could never really support that with any articles or commentary on it. But it’s obvious from these photos. She did that classic Hollywood thing – the road to fame is an emaciating one.

  • Aafje

Well I liked her a bit heavier, but I am glad she stopped spray tanning and went with her natural skin color.

  • Hazal

I think she doesn’t realise that there is something like google where people can look up older pictures of her. So, we can see that her current body is not her natural weight. Does she think we’re dumb?
But: I looooove that chequered coat!

    • aalyceh

I reckon. I was happy to accept her new waif-ish figure and focus on her acting, but oh no, she has to shove some PR-mediated rubbish about ‘born this way’ down our throats. So now, her weight loss just annoys me.

      • Ruth

Me too. It’s like, these girls in Hollywood get caught up in their ED but are so delusional that they give the same awful explanations for their weight that I did when I had an ED. I wish more people could see through it. It’s so sad 🙁

  • Pandora

I can see where she’s coming from. I idolize voluptuous women, but it’s just not something I’ll ever be able to attain for myself, so I just stick to being a stick. Except I do workout a lot, as I’d just look and feel sickly without some muscle tone.

BTW I just love her impish smirk she’s always got! It’s pretty cute

    • Em

Oh, yeah, I just noticed her smile – how does she mange to pull that off? I would look so stupid smiling like that – haha.

      • Pandora

lol yeah totally. I’d either look like I was passing gas or really demented.

        • Em

In my case, I am demented! Haha. I think it’s her lip shape – they’re rather full. Thinner lips cannot pull off the adorable “Emma Stone half-smile/smirk.” 😉

  • berty

She’s adorable, I think her figure is lovely. She just needs to watch her weight and not get too skinny, because then her head looks like a big balloon.

  • mary

she looks cuter with the red hair. looks good at both weights

  • ellentjie

    She is so darn cute!

  • Laura

Leprosy?! Such an unhappy statement…gosh. Those celebrities need their publicists to review everythnig they say.

  • Em

She looks best in the 2007 photo – great weight for her frame and red hair. She looks best with red or brown hair, IMO.

  • Rach

Yes, she has clearly lost some weight in the past 6 years.. but honestly that happens to some women. As you age (at least for some) you lose the baby fat. For me, it didn’t happen until I was about 25!

    • Rach

and no, I’m not saying it’s definitely the case because I obviously don’t know her. It’s just a possibility.

  • serena

I get what she’s saying, but I wish she didn’t phrase it like this. The pubescent boy thing is getting so cliche and tired; plus taken out of context it sounds like she’s post-op.

  • channy

i like how she’s up front that she she knows that she’s not built with a lot of curve, unlike other celebrities who think they are built like beyonce (lea michelle) and she always dresses to flatter her body type! love her humbleness.

  • silvy

I have no problem at all with thin woman, or woman who work hard to become thin

I have a huge problem with woman who work hard to become thin and then say that they are “unfortunetly” destined to be like that, and they wish they weren’t…huh????

    I HATE that!

I mean why is it so politically incorrect in hollywood to admit to liking being thin? They ALL say this, its even worse when they pretend they cant get bigger…um we saw you a few years ago bigger…its quite easy actually…put the cheese burger in your mouth…swallow.

    • barbie

      Lol agree.

    • Jacky Daniels

      amen to that..

    • Nobsnob

haha you hit the nail on the head with it!

    • lc

I have to agree with this comment.

  • verity

She was born with the body of a 10 year old boy? Her mum must have been in agony on the day her massive freak body slid into the world.

    • Dana

      lmao!!!

  • Anne

I remember when she was a few pounds heavier I’d read comments (not here specifically) that she was “fat” and now that she’s lost weight the comments are now “she’s too skinny!!! eat a cheeseburger!!” If she did admit that she has lost weight, then people will cry that she’s advocating eating disorders. She doesn’t admit it and well, people call her a liar. She can’t win either way. Just goes to show what Hollywood does to you and what their expectations are. With producers, directors, studio heads and the media telling you that you’re too fat and need to lose a few pounds, a girl can only take so much. Even the most seemingly level headed people waver under the pressure sometimes.

    • Ruth

She COULD win by not staying out of the Hollywood weight delusions and getting therapy so she can be normal and healthy. Any idiot could see that this weight loss is not natural.

  • Arthosi Glemes

this in not a big change . it just a hint now you’re a lady not girl .http://liftserumproblog.com/

  • Coquette

LIES!! Just lost all coolness about her – she used to be this funny down to eather, not taking any hollywood bullshit and now shes just down to being exactly like everyone else! I can’t believe she is pulling the “good genes” card and on top of that disguising it as “i wish i had curves, i love curves”. She used to have plenty curves – just look at the house bunny! http://images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/2100000/The-House-Bunny-emma-stone-2172694-2062-1650.jpg

    • Ruth

Thank you for saying this. Why can’t more people see through this!??! I suspect an ED. Really sad.

  • artemis

i loved her slightly bigger body. she looks so pretty in some of these pics

  • Lavender

IMO Her face looks so much better now especially compared to her 2006 picture. Im the same, when heavier I have such a moon face, no structure or shape what so ever.
Also I kind of see what she is saying in regards to curves.
When she was heavier she still had a ruler shape but with thicker limbs.
Again IMO curvy woman look better skinny because atleast it gives them a modelesque silhouette like someone else above mentioned.

    • Lavender

*Oops I mean NON-CURVY woman look better skinny because atleast it gives them a modelesque silhouette like someone else above mentioned.

  • Pixie

Aww, why does she lie? She actually use to have some curve. She’s the one who made herself so thin…..she definitely didn’t always have that figure.

  • piko

Well she didn’t really have any curves before. To me curves are mainly boobs and but and she seemed pretty narrow. It looks like she gains weight in other places so it’s better for her that she looks that skinny. And I think it suits her more too. I think she’d probably like to stay that skinny and have some boobs and but. I am skinny too and without boobs but I’m not really but-less and if I would gain wight it would really just go into my stomach and other places just not in my boobs. So I understand her.

  • Natasha Fields

She lost weight. It’s her own fault.

  • Jacky Daniels

no, you did not.. she is full of s***

  • siennagold10

she definitely does NOT have 10 year old boy’s body judging from her photos in 2006.

  • Erica

She certainly doesn’t have a boy’s body – but she is very thin and not very shapely.

I get confused by her shape. In The House Bunny, she did appear to have curves to me – boobs and hips. Same with Zombieland. But on any red carpet she has always looked less curvy – whether at a higher weight, or now very thin. So, I’m not really sure about what is ‘natural’ for her. I think she is a bit underweight now, but not extremely so. She does look better a little heavier, but in those days she was still very young and the figure can certainly ‘settle’ between 19 and 21. I changed a lot then and I think many women do – whether they get thinner, fatter, flatter or curvier – it’s individual.

Either way, I think she’s sweet and funny – but it’s a little sad if she truly thinks she has a boy’s body and can have no curves. She has had them before and she’s not that shapeless even at her skinniest. If she’s really healthy and happy at this weight, then the curves don’t matter. But if she’s restricting heavily to keep herself this thin, then maybe she’s not doing her body shape, mental or physical health any favours.

  • Laura

I liked her body better in the 06-07 pictures. Not a fan of the weird tan, though. Now she’s a little too thin for me – and plus, that weight loss certainly isn’t going to do anything for those curves she wants. But I definitely don’t think she looks like a 10-year-old boy either way, and she’s pretty regardless.

  • KKat

I think she looks best in the blue outfit in 2007 – hair and body.

  • lc

    Oh Emma…smdh.

  • Dani

Well I won’t go as far to say she isn’t eating 🙂 I know better but I will say if you look at older photos of her, even as recent as Easy A she had more of a shape than she does now. What was that movie she was in with Anna? House Bunny I think, she had curves then. So I think it’s a choice. She is watching what she eats, working out more, something changed.

  • Katelyn

Sheesh, some of you are harsh. She says one thing and you automatically dislike her? Funny enough, in the end of the interview she says ‘None of my opinions are final!’ almost as if she knew that she’ll need some sort of insurance especially against those who knit pick through her words.

  • N

    Guys, it’s called feigned humility.
She knows she lost weight; it’s obvious. And, she’s probably glad about it (who wouldn’t be?), but saying so outright would make her appear egoistic, so she pokes fun at herself as a subtle way of drawing positive attention to her body.

  • Ali

Please don’t lie Emma, you weren’t born with that body, you had meet on your bones.

Anyway, love her style, she looks always perfect.

  • LaLaLaura

She’s eating much less, and looks to be around 100 lbs currently. That statement is a bit ridiculous. She’s caused herself to look like a 10 year old boy, as she says..
Years ago she looked incredibly womanly and had curves. Now she doesn’t, she doesnt even seem as happy as she used to. I don’t know if it’s Garfield.. and that he pressures her, or had different beauty standards than the men Emma used to date. Some women, actually many women will conform to please their boyfriend. I sense that happening with her, that or she’s given into Hollywood and wants to be stick thin to land roles, but most directors and producers want “real” looking people. Sickness shows on camera, not saying she’s sick at all.. but when you’re too thin it looks obvious on camera/film.

    • Annette

Doesn’t it ever occur to anyone that the thinner weight may be the natural one, and she was intentionally gaining weight before, for some “real person” type role as you say?

  • B.

    That’s called hypocrisy.

  • Lisa

I love her legs. I have a “12 year old boy’s” body, until you get to my thighs.

  • Lavender

Oh how self loathing. I wonder if she realises the positives of her figure such as her great lean, long looking legs or the fact that having her body shape and being her current size probably makes her body one of the easiest to dress.
Also she definitely used the wrong word to describe her body. It didn’t make her sound very smart. She could have said non curvy, rectangular, ruler shaped ect

  • b

We have the same coat!!! I love that, since she’s so stylish. It’s from Maje.

  • jjj2

She looks great. I’ve never seen a 10 year old boy that looked like that. She has an awesome body.

Meh, I think she looks really hot either way. I do like her better as a redhead though. And I think she looked really good in Easy A, was she heavier then?

Anyways, these comments make me sad to be unable to gain weight. I’m 5’7 and weigh 115, and I’ve tried special diets and all and nope… Metabolism lol. I wiiish I were at 121 pounds -.-

Whether she dyes her hair red or keeps her natural blonde hair, Emma Stone is still beautiful. I also love her naturally pale complexion because she is not afraid to embrace it. However she looked better with more weight on. She’s a bit too skinny now.

  • Olivia

I think she meant her body type. She never had any curves to begin with. She just looked a bit bigger. Her weight loss could be due to the fact that she is getting much more work than she used to. So she got introduced to healthy eating and a very different lifestyle. Plus in this industry you’re busy and always on the go. She looks a bit run down but there is no indication she is purposefully depraving herself of food.

UGH I don’t even care if she has ED or not or whatever the heck. I love her to death hahahah. One of my biggest girl crushes!

  • Ruth

I’ve never posted on this site before but this is absolutely sick. If anyone can look at the difference between a few years ago and now, and not see a problem, you are truly brainwashed by the media normalizing skeletal figures. She had a healthy figure, now she is severely underweight. I know I’ll get flack for saying this, but, Jeez!! How can someone not see the glow and normal weight disappear from her?? I’m sick of people saying “She’s got a perfect figure”. People should be worried about their own health and stop feeding into the idea that anorexia/bulimia are not happening because they happen way more than you might think. Get a grip, people.

    • veeeeev

Yeah but people’s bodies generally change over time. Sure she does look a lot skinnier now than she was before, but you also have to consider that these are one photos out of millions – clothes, lighting and everything contribute to it. I don’t see SUCH a drastic change, where I think people should start ordering Emma Stone to go into rehab for an ED. Obviously, we don’t know what the real situation is, but I’ve seen people gain/lose weight naturally due to whatever reasons NOT solely because they have an ED. So isn’t it equally just as silly of you to say that all celebrities who have had a change in their figure as a definite “oh my god she has an eating disorder!”, especially when you think people are brainwashed by the media? I think many people recognise the unrealistic and hyper-idealistic image the media spits out, and just because some people like it doesn’t mean that they are unaware. By all means, I’m not encouraging EDs at all. But I dislike it when people come onto sites like these and start preaching generalised notions of what people should do, a.k.a. “people should be worried about their own health” – erm, HOW do you not know that they aren’t!?

  • She has always been thin…but she looked better before.
Now she has very, very skinny legs.

I think she looks great either eay. She isn’t too thin or boyish (although boyish figures are fine).

  • Howdy this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I absolutely love seeing the light-bulb moments when a
MD really understands where marketing lingo fits in their
business. Build a discussion board for the products in the larger market.
Traditional marketing lingo is very expensive and
painful exercise to dismiss this bit wisdom.
It also called Multilevel marketing lingo or Network marketing
lingo. It is now trading at approximately its pre-launch prices.
