Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle Weighs Her Food at Restaurants
June 5, 2009 in General by Versus

The Sun reports:
The GIRLS ALOUD star has been spotted weighing out her posh nosh at a top London restaurant — then sending half of it back.
She shocked diners at The Ivy when she asked the waiter to bring her a portion of plain fish with no vegetables or even a drop of sauce.
She then proceeded to dive into her designer handbag for a set of digital scales before deciding how much she could possibly stomach and ordering the rest to be taken away.
Onlookers were quite understandably put off their oysters watching the star fuss and play with the almost non-existent food on her plate.
One told me: “It was the oddest thing I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t believe it when she just whipped out the mini scales and put them in the middle of the table to weigh bits of her fish.
“Even more bizarre was the fact that she acted as though it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Everyone was staring at her but she just carried on weighing her food.”

It never ceases to amaze how celebs find the oddest and most pointless ways to watch their weight! It’s so pretentious.
If she learnt about nutrition she could eat normally and just take care to watch portion sizes, moderate food groups and fit in exercise.
I can’t wait for the moment she shows up in an interview, telling us how she is naturally slim and eats normaly, whatever she wants so on and so forth =))
Yeah, me too
. OMG, no wonder there is anorexia in the world, these so called “hotties” with “naturally” slim bodies have invented it. That’s AWFUL, she should be ashamed of herself. She could at least have kept her methods at home, away from the eyes of the rest of the world. SHAME ON YOU!!!
The thing with Nadine is that when girls aloud started out, she had a much and I mean much heavier figure, and no I don’t mean fat, but if you look up pictures of her from back then, you’ll be quite shocked.
And she is not naturally this skinny and I think its disgusting that when you have so many young girls looking up to you, you act this way and tell them to carry a weight in your bag so that you can weigh your food in a restaurant. Get over yourself.
she didn’t tell them to “carry a weight in their bag” who ever them is. She did it, people saw it and reported it. It might not even be true. But either way she’s not enforcing her dietary restrictions on any one so back off.
Can’t you read but if you can’t, get over yourself. You prob. have an unhealthy view on food as well, and you are out of your mind when you carry a weight in your handbag and put it on a table in a restaurant. And when you are someone who people look up to, you become someone they want to copy, therefore it is sick if she gets people to do the same, because that is not normal.
more than anything this story makes me sad! is being thin really the most important thing in the world to these young women? what about enjoying life a little bit!? really really sad….
maybe she has an eating disorder.. i mean she even weighs a bit of fish!
to be honest: i’m still suffering from an eating disorder and you’re right it’s sad to think about food all the time and not to be able to enjoy life without a superskinny figure.
but it’s so important to look good and when you’re not naturally thin you have to watch what you eat very carefully.
it’s a balancing act.
hear that sound? its a million teenage girls running out to get scales for their dinners. (i hope not).
I was just about to say the same.
i can hear it too! they run so fast…
I know this sounds wrong, but i dont really think what she did was so bad. I mean If you look at all the food they serve you in restaurants! you can eat 4 or 5 times what you should without even NOTICING! I know many times I’m thinking “how much of all this should i really be eating?”, because remember that eating TOO much is also bad, not just too little
Well, I think a healthy lifestyle is of course the most important thing with enough sporting and good eating habits.
But some times in a year you should be able to go a restaurant without weighing your lettuce leaves and eat what you like and work out a little bit more next day.
It’s OK if she weighs her food at home, but at a restaurant… come on
Marie, she got a piece of fish. With nothing else. So come on, don’t tell me she was just careful not to eat to much, because it was impossible to eat to much in the first place: when she ordered, that is. And if you worry so much, don’t go to the restaurant period. Not only what she did was stupid, it was also way rude: maybe the other people in the restaurant actually wanted to enjoy their meals? After all, that’s why you go there, don’t you?
that’s true.. if she only got the fish she shouldn’t worry too much. I didn’t read the article carefully I just read about the scale, its just that my first thought was that when I see the huge plates with huge portions you get at most restaurants, I think sometimes a scale would come in handy. Not that I’d do it… it really would seem a little odd
I kind of agree Marie. After all, she probably eats out at restaurants an awful lot so has to be super cautious IF she wants to maintain her figure. Granted it seems a little ott carrying around a set of scales, but it’s no different than watching LiLo or Victoria Beckham pushing around a piece of lettuce.
i doubt the types of restaurants she’s dining at give huge portions. Expensive places tend not to have huge portions.
this is the ivy, not a taco bell or steakhouse chain, the portion sizes will be tiny and very good quality of very expensive haute cuisine.
if she is doing that then she is ridiculous! however, the sun newspaper is the most ridiclous trash in the entire world eva, and i would not be at all surprised if they just made all tis shit up!
nadine may have an eating disorder but she is not stupid enough to do something like this in a big, well known restaurant like this!
i think it is most likely a pile of crap!!
I don’t believe this is true. Gossip.
Let them stare . . . It’s none of my business how she decides to eat.
I don’t think people should be rude about her, it’s obvious she is battling an eating disorder
Beyond weird.
IMO celebrities face the pressure from us the normal ppl who buy into there music or anything they happen to sell, prime example Jessica Simpson look what the media and ppl’s reaction to her weight gain or even Kelly Clarkson we as a society put so much pressure on them to look perfect who can really complain when the have horrid eating habits to keep the masses happy i.e us!
But I wonder, did society really create the “I have to be thin or else monster”? Or are celebrities just shallow narcissists who are prone to all sorts disorders? There are musicians and actors, who are successful but don’t put themselves up for public fodder. They make a movie or album, do well and then go n with their lives in private. If you don’t want pressure from the media, why not just stay out of it?
And scaling your food at a restaurant is a bit odd. And in terms of young girls emulating these people. Don’t parents have a responsibility to instill their children with good values and a healthy sense of self? Or at very least, turn off the tv? When will we take responsibility for ourselves instead of blaming media and celebrity for every social ill?
Who cares if she wants to weigh her food? It’s hard to know what you’re eating when you’re eating out. The portions are huge and they use a crap load of butter to cook everything. I don’t understand why she didn’t get the veggies unless they make her gassy;) lol. It happens. IMO, if she wants to weigh her food then so be it, I’d rather see someone care about their health than watch an already obese person down a entire table of food.
Yeah, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Restaurant food is the fattiest out there, spaghetti at a restaurant will have twice as many calories as spaghetti you’d make at home. The servings they give you are way more than what you should be eating.
Agree. Even this is true (although I don’t believe it), it’s so much better when people watch what they eat instead of eating junk food and not concerning about the harm it can cause.
And don’t forget, she’s on the public eye, she feels pressure. Although we all tend to say that celebs are the same humans as we are, they are not. Let’s face it – they have to work on theirselves much harder than we, ordinary people, have.
I know, that is why I’d never want to be famous. Being an average woman, no one gives two shits what my body looks like. But celebrities are judged every day, when they gain so much as 3 lbs they end up on this website lol.
Hahahaha you don’t WEIGH your food. You need the nutritional information, i.e. how many calories or grams of fat per portion.
Weighing it is not “caring about their health” – it’s just being plain stupid.
Let me give you an example…
This mis-guided girl clearly thinks weighing her food is helping her lose weight (although there is not a lot more weight she can lose off her bones), but surely when you weigh a carrot and then weigh a piece of chocolate, the carrot will weigh more, but the chocolate will make you put on the most weight. I don’t understand her logic here – why on earth would you eat something just because it weighs less?!
That’s not taking care of your health, it’s plain stupidity. Order a salad then if you’re not going to eat a tiny piece of fish. Celebrities like this anger me – they need to remember they are in the public eye and thousands of young girls with eating disorders are watching them. Idiots. Never liked Nadine anyway.
Lol no its not just about eating light stuff. You figure out the nutrition info from the weight. Like 4 oz of fish has xxx cals, 3 oz of broccoli has xxx cals. etc.
It’s interesting how everyone puts down the idea of weighing your food, but healthy diets like Weight Watchers TELLS you to do that! Whats funny is that Weight Watchers is probably one of the most healthy diets out there!!
i think its more the idea of weighing a simple portion of fish in a public restaurant!
While I agree that restaurant food is usually quite fatty, I just eat smaller portions and bring the rest of it home for another meal. Or, my friends and I will split one meal. It’s also great to order a la carte. It’s too bad that restaurants don’t make their portions smaller, everyone would benefit from that. But I agree with some people that bringing a scale to weigh your food seems a little neurotic.
WELL WHY THE HELL WOULD SHE GO OUT TO EAT THEN!? strange the whole point of going to a restaurant is to eat good food . . ive lost all respect for the girl
lol! well alrighty then
it’s pretty common with the fittness-loving people to weigh their food, but you do in the process of MAKING it. weight watchers is about that too. if you have a portion of spaghetti, sauce and some chicken or what ever, what is it gonna tell you to weigh it? you gotta know the nutritional value first, and then weigh the ingridients to know that you take the right amount. (if she only had fish though then ofcourse that tells her the calories etc. immidiately) at a restaurant this is totally gross though! have some manners! this weighing might sound obsessive, but it’s just about wanting to learn everything about your nutrition. the people i know weigh their food R’nt the anorexics though, they’re the ones who work out and eat enough and know how much protein/fat/carbonhydrates they need. like next to a nutritionist. and what this nadine did might be a very bad exemple for girls, but not all anorexics looks up to celebs. they want to feel in control, or to be invisible, or to be the best at something, or they just feel disgusted by food, or feel so lost they want to punish themselves… list goes on though the most common group is the girls who are nice overacchievers, maybe combined with wanting to feel in control. (just saying, ’cause the trend to be thin isn’t even nearly always the reason why the MOST SEVERE, as in all bone in wheelchair, cases got sick
Kelly Clarkson should start something like that.
They are not regular folks, they are paid millions to look their best and I think she is very committed with her fans.
ahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa
amusing but not true im sure
I’m not condoning what she did but i wouldn’t blame her for other people copying. The reality is that we cannot control what people do. She apparently did this in a restaurant not in public but the media got wind and now we are all talking about it. There are people doing better things but we choose to pay attention to this instead, she can’t be blamed for that.
Lol I can imagine her doing that at home in Derry- She’d be laughted out and told to eat a pasty supper!!
People, stop blaming her so harshly for caving into the standards that the media and her fans who demand that she look so damn thin.
So many people want celebrities to be unnaturally thin using natural methods and it’s just fu**ing hypocritical.
Either let the girl do what she needs to make her money, or stop exalting women like Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, and Shenae Grimes for their thin appearances.
Few women are that naturally thin, but we as consumers demand that they look like that.
