I don’t think anyone is ‘naturally thin’, is anyone naturally fat either? You could say everyone is naturally programmed to be a healthy weight because there is an optimum ratio of fat/muscle that your body needs to function normally. When actresses/models say they are ‘naturally thin’ they are lying. They either do things the healthy way and work really hard to maintain their thin bodies with proper nutrition and exercise, or they do things unhealthily and starve their bodies or take drugs to stay thin. To be thin you need to eat only enough calories for maintenence. This takes effort, will power and concious decision making, so no, no-one is ‘naturally thin’.
I sooo agree! There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” genes when it comes to weight. (Of course there are some people who have diseases that make their bodies function differently, and which might lead to them being very skinny or overwight, but I am pretty sure that diseases are not what people are referring to when speaking about this “natrual” thinness.)
However, some people are lucky enough not to enjoy food as much as other. They feel that they can eat whatever they want and still stay thin, and they often eat food that is not considered healthly. The difference between them and overweight people is that they know when to stop eating!
My friend for example; she is super slim and eats whatever she wants (according to herself – and I believe her). My point here is that “whatever she wants” actually isn’t a whole lot of food. She is just one of those persons who manage their weight without much trouble, since she doesn’t enjoy good food and sweets as much as some others. She eats until she’s full and do not over eat just because it tastes good. Myself on the other hand; I struggle daily to control my desire for good food and sweets and has managed to stay thin by doing so in addition to several hours a week at the gym. However, if I allowed myself to eat “whatever I want” I would end up fat, because I loooove food, chocolate and ice cream and can eat A LOT if I allow myself. Simple as that.
i so disagree! there are many people- girls who are skinny all the time whatever they eat, i know myself women like that , and that is because of genetics! and there is other type – people who when they eat normal are considered to be curvy so they have to diet and work out as well to be slim
Agree! AND it is scientifically proven.
i also know women who are naturally thin and eat a normal amount of food but don’t gain much weight and don’t exercise
No such thing as naturally thin?
Have you ever been to an Asian country?
I’m going to have to disagree here too, you can definitely be thin or a little bigger regardless of what you eat. I think it might have a lot to do with metabolisms and stuff, which are passed down through genes. Also the way your body is built, like if you’re naturally thin, you’re usually a ectomorph, which means you have a low fat storage (most models are ectomorphs, for instance). Then there’s mesomorph, which is slim and athletic and they lose weight much easier than others. Then endomorphs, who have large fat storage and big bones.
Most people are a combination of two of these, so they have varying criteria.
But, yeah, if everybody was built the same for some ‘optimal weight’, we probably wouldn’t have so many varying body types.
Lillian,
I agree with your post. You are so right about body type. Thanks for posting this.
Well, firstly I am an Asian spend half of my time in UK and in thailand every year! I can tell you that asians are not NATUALLY skinny but the food PORTION is MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller here and people walk more thats why we are thinner. the food also has less calories and fat in them! you can find more and more fat people these days since we eat more WESTERN fattening food!!
I am definitely going to disagree. I know from personal experience. I am 5′4″ and size 0. I HAVE to eat a lot to maintain this weight. I have two children. My mother is the same way. She had seven chidren, she is 5′7″, 53 years old and wears a size three! If I DON’T pig out before bed (ice cream, cookies, chocolate), I start to lose weight real fast. Not that I don’t eat healthy, I just like to balance it out. I NEED to eat a lof of calories, I have never had the patience to count how many I eat though. I will put it this way, I eat more than my 165 lb husband. I live with my mother in law and she started weight watchers last month. I tryed to help her out by not keeping any junk food around. I lost 10 pounds in less than a month! I am VERY active though, as well. I work, excersise regularly and chase around my two young boys the rest of the time. But even before I was so busy (before kids
), I was a size three. Back then I would just sit around on my butt all day long and people would still always comment on my thiness. So I am telling you that some people really are NATURALLY extrememly thin.
P.S. It is not always easy either, I was teased my entire life for being so thin. Skinny bones, skeletor, slim, squirt, etc., etc…… Even now, I love to layer on clothes to give myself a little more shape. A lot of people seem to thing that teasing a person for being skinny is okay/different than teasing a person who is overweight. I don’t think so, you probably are that person; the jealuos person that talks behind our backs and says that we our anorexic or bulimic. Well, you are wrong and probably a little jealous.
I so agree with you!
People always think I’m starving myself or working hard all day to burn everything I eat. I’m so tired of justifying myself for being thin and for being able to eat what I want when I want.
I have a fast metabolism, so what? People think I’m lucky but sometimes it sucks to be like this.
I totally agree.
I’m sorry but the people who don’t think there is such thing as ‘naturally’ thin, your being ignorant.
Peoples metabolisms work at different paces.
You may get a 98lb girl who can eat like a 18 stone man and not gain weight because their metabolism is fast…. Or a 140lb girl who needs to eat as little as 1000kcals a day just to maintain.
Your born with a certain metabolism, which slows down as you age. This happens to everyone.
While your younger (16-35) you can increase your metabolism by eating certain foods, or not eating certain foods and exercising regularly.
Naturally skinny people exist.
Wow, the girl is very bendy……. love it!!!! And yes, I think she’s always been thin, her bod looks great and very very natural.
Too thin for my taste, but the pictures are interesting.
That’s probably my ideal figure. Thin, lean, toned with some definition. Surprised she got Maxim #1 though! Although I know her from is the lesbian chick from The OC!
i really think she has lost a little weight over the years, since her stunt in the o.c. she is a tad too thin (the legs in picture two lead me to believe that), and i think it would do her well to adjust her caloric intake.
I think she has a naturally lean body, but she clearly works out.
Either way, she looks fantastic.
Wow, awesome photoshoot! And even if I’d normally say she’s too thin, well, she looks great! And the third pic is so freakin’ gorgeous!
I really hope her thin-ness is only because of the character she plays on “House” and that when she’s done with that she will got a healthier looking size.
I think she is too thin
At the awards cermonies globes etc. she look waaay thin
she just looks okay cos its “artistic”
i bet she would be frail in real life
Naturally thin means fast burning metabolism. It also means small bone structure – like Olivia – vs big bone structure – like Brooke Hogan for example. I know the small bones, big bones may sound a bit as an excuse, but it is not. Just think at some people who have a really small rib cage. If ribs are sticking out, you would call that person thin, right? And there are people like that, with no fat, but still looking bigger than Olivia. Who may be small boned and everything – how tall is she, btw? – but i find her a bit too skinny. Very very small, kinda thinspo – if you know what that means. I wondered on different sites, and this is the kind of figure that inspires eating disorders. Not to blame her or anything, but i for example feel like a cow just looking at these pictures, even though i weigh around 105-7 pounds. So … no, from this point of view, i don’t like her.
I don’t get the hype over her, but I think her figure is amazing. Lean and toned.
i’ll give credit where credit is due, she has a really fantastic body. very lean and toned. that being said, though, i think she needs to gain about 10 pounds, at least. if she weren’t so athletic, she’d just look plain emaciated.
OMG im appaled to know she’s voted as the sexiest for GQ and look at this girl- she’s pure bones!!!
I really think this lady is too thin…she doesn’t look healthy to me, personally, I think she needs more meat on her bones. I have seen her on television, she has no hips, no ass, no body fat at all…and for a woman, medically speaking, that is not quite healthy because women need a certain percentage of body fat.
She does have alluring eyes.
some people just dont have hips/a butt, it’s their body frame. Even if they have high body fat they won’t have those things. Hips have nothing to do with body fat, it is your bone structure that determines whether you have big curvy ones or small slim ones.
She does have low body fat but not extremely low. You cant see her individual ab muscles so i’m guessing 20-22% body fat which is ideal
She’s a little thin for my taste but I’d say she’s probably naturally thin. She has an attractive face. I love her eyes. Great photoshoot! I like it!
She is definitely slim and toned, but I would not say that she is too thin or “skin and bones.” Look at the poses she is in – they are elongating her body and making her look very long and lean, and showing off her muscle tone. I think she looks amazing, and I don’t think she would look too skinny if she was shown in normal clothing and normal poses.
There is something quite masculine about her… I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.
And if the camera adds 10lbs she must be emaciated in real life.
Uhm, maybe the fact she seriously lacks some breasts? Just saying, I know it sounds offensive but it really irritates me that this figure is considered healthy and normal and sexy. The sexiest.
I’m sure she wasn’t voted “the sexiest” only because of her lean figure. I think her face (in particular her eyes) are very sexy, vixen-like
Hotness is a matter of confidence and attitude, not only size IMO.
I agree.
Olivia is sexier when you consider her whole package, in fact, one of my best guy friends has a major thing for the shape of her eyebrows xD
It’s not my ideal body, but I believe it’s hers naturally, and it’s wrong to say that she isn’t sexy when there are a great deal of skinny girls out there struggling with their body image because the typical hot girl has bigger curves.
She looks great and we should celebrate that there’s a little more diversity!
Oh yeah, and what about girls struggling with their weight because people expect them to look like this? Let’s be honest, most curvy girls are called fat. Most girls that are not this skinny are called fat. So don’t tell me how hard it is to be skinny, cause it isn’t. Not in this world. I am sorry i sound so pissed off, but you are acting like reality is completely the opposite of what it actually is.
I’m not really sure I consider her to be ‘lean and toned’. I haven’t seen many pics of her, but from what I can see here she has very little muscle. Could be due to her ectomorph body type but if she works out as much as people are saying and also eating right then she wouldn’t look this skinny.
I think often too many people use the words ‘lean’ or ‘toned’ to describe skinny people with not a lot of fat but not a lot of muscle either. To me these words describe someone with a reasonable amount of muscle as well as low fat which is what gives them a defined look.
i think she’s my girl crush too
lol!
she has a great body
Shes got an absolutly beautiful face and technically she is a Princess, did you know that?
I do like her body but I would much rather a body like Bar, slim, toned, lean, healthy.
I am 5′4 98-100lbs, dont enjoy food, vegetarian. I walk everyday and do yoga once a week. I wouldnt say I was a pettite build but im not big boned, thats just my natural weight.
she looks fine to me…I mean , maybe a little too thin but at least she’s toned and I can see some muscles over there , not just skin and bones.
LOVE this photoshoot! She looks slim but not like she’s unhealthy, she actually looks like she’s got a lot of long, lean muscle – clearly from all that flexibility she’s in good shape! She’s looking fantastic.
“natural thinness” or fast metabolism or what ever is a complicated thing. it’s bs to say THIS IS HOW IT IS, i know it, ´cause there are hundreds of studies about the subject(with slightly dif. results), researchist still don’t agree on even nearly everything. the people i believe the LEAST are the ones who speak from “personal experience” What studies have shown is that our perseption of exercise/eating varies A LOT. many thin women actually feel like they eat HUGE amounts, but when u calculate everything, it’s not enough to make them gain weight. it’s either they eat very rearly, not thinking about it, or have had the model of healthy eating from home or something, and so eat lot’s of veggies and other food that R low-cal(still not massive amounts) also some people just move around all the time without noticing. but maybe STILL we have dif. type of engins runnig. metabolism.. not so much, that’s were most agree. resting metabolism doesn’t vary much between same-sized people, but amount of muscle and just moving/exercising play an important role. that said(:) a bit long, oups) olivia looks good though almost anorexic and maybe like she was a thin girl growing up, which doesn’t really mean anything other than that she’s tall(growth takes NRJ)and maybe something about her family. but i wouldn’t know. well she does look like an ectomorphe, smallboned, long limbs, doesn’t gain muscle easily etc.
I know that there are people who are thin and struggle to put on weight. I guess all of these people just happened to end up in hollywood.
lovely body.
I am so surprised that she was chosen Maxim’s “number 1 hottie”. Men usually drewl over curvier women like Scarlett Johansson, rather than skinny minnies like Olivia. I suppose it’s refreshing to see that men like most types of female bodies? It’s probably partly because of her stunning face. And, because of her muscle tone. Skinny girls without muscle tone are just not sexy.
I think shes absolutely goregous and yes THIN. So what?? I’m tired of jealous heavier girls hating on thin girls because society decides thin is in. Not our fault…in the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s we wouldnt have been so hot!
And I’m tired of people deciding to bash those that don’t share their views by assuming they are/accusing them of being heavy and jealous. Personally, I prefer HEALTHY, and IMO, she doesn’t seem too particularly healthy at this size. Yes, she’s hot, there’s just something about her eyes that just make her “WOW!”, but as for her body, she’s been looking a lot better recently since she’s put on weight. Thin doesn’t always equal good, IMO, some women just aren’t supposed to be thin, and I’m a little sick of being told a woman has to be thin to be in. Why can’t we accept all (healthy)shapes and sizes, and quit making women think they have to be one certain way to be “in”? And why can’t we stop making women feel bad for not liking a particular trend when they recognize that it isn’t right or healthy to try and fit into that trend? Am I heavy? Yes, but how does that make a difference when it comes to my opinion? Am I jealous? Um, no, why would I be jealous of a body I can neither have or particularly want? And why does it have to be assumed that I AM jealous if I don’t like the way a woman looks?
And no, I’m not accusing her of having an eating disorder or anything, I just remember that she plays(played? haven’t watched the show for a while
) a character with a sever disease in “House”, and I think she was like this for her role, and not really because she thinks she HAS to be thin. She has put on weight recently, and I think she looks better for it, and that makes me also believe that she wasn’t forcing herself to be that way for any kind of trend and more for the role she plays/played.
this girl has such a stunning, exotic looking face. she makes megan fox’s face look like a trashy caricature of a porn star.
