On plastic surgery and beauty treatments:
‘I don’t mind a few wrinkles and freckles. I had this laser treatment recently, Thermage, and it took a couple of years off my face, but I haven’t had any plastic surgery yet. Maybe one day I will, although I don’t like the idea of it. I prefer the thought of ageing in the way French actresses do – have the odd cigarette and glass of wine and just enjoy life.’
See the spread next!

She looks good. And she is aging well. Hopefully, as she ages she won’t muck around with her face too much. The botox, restaylane is scary but thermage is just as scary if not even scarier i.e. side effects long term unknown.
WHAT??
Here’s a woman who eats completely organic, vegan food and yet thinks the “odd cigarette” is completely fine.
Hypocrite.
I recently quit smoking and yeah, you tell yourself it’s just the “odd cigarette” but for most people, that easily turns into a daily excuse.
Well, why does that make her a hypocrite? She’s just not perfect, and she seems to be fine with that…
I actually respect her a little less because of the Thermage thing… (What is that anyway?) I know it doesn’t really make sense. I just think it’s a shame..
Not hypocritical at all…I do the same…I used to smoke butts and doobies…I went super clean 3 years ago and reduced the chemicals in my home, food and medicine…so ya, once in a while I’ll smoke one or the other…esp in the summer…but not even once a week. Just like I eat GFCF mon to fri but can feel totally ok having a grilled cheese sandwich on the weekend…it’s abt balance.
Hypocritacal would be her scoffing at someone who smokes and is overall super healthy if she were to do the same…
@Neri – how do you lose respect for someone doing something when you dont even know what it is? Does that make sense? It’s like ignorant judgement…no? Dont you wanna do your research and make an informed decision in general and when it relates to judging someone? All good, that just doesnt make sense to me and I think peeps are esp unkind to GP…who YES can annoy me to at times but overall I think her intentions are very good.
Well, obviously I know that… Which is why I wrote it doesn’t really make any sense.
But I guess it’s because she’s trying to project this image of being incredibly NATURAL… That natural is enough, it is beautiful as it is, so to me, it seems kind of hypocritical that she would opt for a ‘beauty treatment’ that isn’t so… I understand there’s lazer treatment involved… I guess she herself would stand stronger, if her lifestyle could be read naturally in her face and body… As if she wouldn’t feel the need to do something like that, because she was at peace with herself…
Ok I totally hear you all that she can be annoying and pretentious sounding even though it`s part of her upbringing and the life she subscribes to and, lol, scribes about. BUT, even tho I wasnt raised in the superstar family of wealth, access to any and everything, Spielberg as my Godfather etc., I kinda get her lifestyle and at first friends and fam got annoyed with me too. I know it sounds weird but I am tight-assed abt how I eat and live a clean life mon-fri strictly, yet I caved and got botox on friday (a 1/4 dose and only for 1 wrinkle cause when I tried it 2 yrs ago it was too much and took a yr to dissipate…I try things before committing to do it every three months) and so far so good this time. Or I have a Hypoglycemia and B-Vitamin deficiency which makes me a hyper-hypo lol and causes trouble like insomnia and sometimes poor-focus, so I smoke a joint or have a glass of red before bed bc I`d rather do that than be up til 4am or on a pharmaceutical product which, I know it sounds weird, has far more negative side effects on your physical health.
Sometimes we modern-clean peeps seem rigid or something and some people are. I have rolled my eyes too at GP but she`s always discussed balance even with rigid cleanses at different times.
I`m abt to start my annual month cleanse April first – I do the Clean Program…try it…even for a weekend or a week. I think when you see all the crap that comes outa you even just in the first few days you`ll raise an eyebrow and possibly look into this more, never mind the high-like euphoric feeling you get by mid-week 2, and how you often drop weight too, though I work with my ND not too (hypoglycemic not good under weight).
best!
Well, maybe I will! I’ll google it definitely
Ugh. She is so fully of it. Every couple of years she comes out with a quote like this hoping to convince the public that she’s more laid back than she really is. Or, who knows, maybe she is doing it to convince herself that she isn’t as much of a control freak that everyone makes her out to be. Either way, I don’t think smoking a cigarette here and there is in her “true” personality. I think she is probably extremely uptight about everything that goes into her body and she doesn’t want to admit it.
agreed, mia. she can’t be “laid back” and a neurotic “control freak” at the same time!!
Thats what annoys me most about her, she’s flip flopping AGAIN. I remember when a couple years back when she was vegan, macrobiotic, organic everything. Then she claimed to be a foodie who ate anything and enjoy life, Then she talked about her cleanses every 2 minutes. Then she said she wasn’t on a cleanse this year and stuffing her face with pasta. Then she said she wasn’t feeding herself or her family any eggs, wheat, dairy, or meat. Now she’s “sitting back and enjoying life with wine and cigarettes.” Just admit it Gwenyth, being skinny is important to you and you have a very restricted diet.
Agree Lucy. This woman is a stuck up hypocrite with a holier than though attitude…i wouldnt take anything she says with more than a grain of salt. shes really unattractive too…that washed out face…looks a decade older than she really is, look at that 3rd pic down…cringe
“the way French actresses do” ugh, she’s so pretentious. Gwyneth, you are American, no matter you try to distance yourself form that fact. stop being such a snob.
Ughh I know, right? *rolls eyes*
she is sooo so far from europian..
I don’t think she’s pretentious. She grew up surrounded by rich people, was brought up in a certain life style and culture and she’s just being the person she grew up to be. So many celebs have this fake “I am so much like you regular guys” attitude and I don’t like that.
i get what you’re saying, but she still grew up in America. surrounded by American socialites and film stars. she just seems to try so hard to sound super “elite” so she always talks about how much she loves living in the UK, shopping in Europe etc, and tries to distance herself from her roots. being American isn’t as glamorous as it once was and she has also badmouthed America in order to gush about Europe before, so i just think she tries too hard and it’s off-putting
She doesn’t look like herself on the cover. I love the shoot though.
I don’t like that the cover is completely different from the shoot. It should have been more earthy and natural like the rest. She has always super duper bugged me. She really is pretentious.
funny she’s holding eggs in the last photo, since her kiddies don’t eat them.
French actresses, lolol. Typical American comment.
She’s the annoying one yet you have the right to stereotype Americans? People just hate this woman because its popular to do so like a mob.
Something about this woman just makes me think she is a total lunatic.
Just the way she caries herself, how she named her children, the way she speaks about ‘emerging sisterhood’ (really Gwyneth?), that new book that she just published…her way of eating (which is fine she’s an adult, she can decide for herself) but then also depriving her young children of rice, eggs, bread and god knows what else?
Anyways. I really like the shoot. Front page, however, got overly photoshopped and doesn’t look like her.
Oh, and she is a fantastic actress.
I think she’s got a great body, but her face has never impressed me.
I agree – especially as she’s getting older, her body still rocks, but her face is not impressive. she’s looking more and more like her mother, Blythe Danner, every day which is weird because 10 years ago, i didn’t even see a resemblance and now she’s looking like her a lot! i guess we really do all turn into our mothers?!?!?
She looks like her mother here.
Man, is it just me, our does her mom seem cool as a breeze compared to her daughter? I get this feeling that Blythe is more relaxed and practical and that Gwyneth is a closet control freak…. Maybe it’s just me.
Closet? She’s admitted before she’s a control freak perfectionist and her actions speak for themselves. I have the same thing so I can understand where she’s coming from a little.
I can relate to that some. I’m a bit of a “freak” about what I eat and possibly in general, because I relate to most of what Gwyn says. Although, the contradictions are a bit confusing. Does she mean marijuana cigarette? That’d be fine. Tobacco though seems weird, why even eat organic if you smoke cigarettes! The quote she said last week about food was kinda weird. She said her kids are hungry from not having enough carbs and that doesn’t seem good. Although cutting gluten can be great, counting carbs seems excessive. I think people should only count a few things -5 servings vegetables per day, -3 servings fruit per day, -ideally some kind of essential fatty acid every day (your brain needs these, you have to eat them, your body will not make them- fish and seeds are how to get them), and then -a general awareness whether or not they are gaining weight. IMO Those are the only numbers that need to be paid attention to, not counting carbs or fat or vitamins or whatever. That’s too much for almost anyone to handle. If they are gaining weight, then it’s good to start at least looking up how much the calories of what they usually eat are, finding out about how many calories their body needs (http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/) and jotting it down.
So yeah, I guess I’m really particular about food too which some think is neurotic. I don’t know, I feel really good, and don’t really ever have to go to the doctor anymore. So maybe I’m stuck up. Or maybe eating the mediterranean diet/paleo diet really is the most scientifically sound healthy way to eat. Maybe both? Aw well
Its hard to reconcile this quote with the fact that her kids can’t have macaroni and cheese and she thinks the majority of people are gluten intolerant and should severely restrict what type of foods they eat.
And I really don’t understand what the odd cigarette and glass of wine has to do with aging or potentially getting plastic surgery… Just seems like a scatterbrained comment.
She’s so annoying and pretentious in my opinion. She has this magnificent idea of herself in her head, like she’s this graceful, poised, self-disciplined fountain of wisdom who is somehow European through association. No. You’re an American, you look like you deprive yourself of anything delicious, and YOU WILL NEVER BE FRENCH!
Some of you women are so perfectly perfect! LOL who cares if she eats organic and wants to drink wine, and who cares if she admires the fact that french women age without looking pulled and tweaked and she covets that?
If no one cared, then she wouldn’t do countless interviews on the subject or run her weekly lifestyle publication (Goop).
i hate this woman
i hate this woman anything she has to say isnt worth reading
I love the look of the shoot. Second photo she looks a lot like Sissy Spacek
I can dig it. I eat well most of the time, work out, but occasionally want some ice cream. Not a banana freeze, not frozen yogurt, I want Ben & Jerry’s full fat & sugar ice cream. But I don’t think that makes my normally healthy lifestyle a farce. If she can find peace within herself to relax, she will live longer, be happier. We all could do a little more of that.
Physically, she looks great, a lot like her mom here. I love the countryside in this shoot!
Why does she always sound so dumb?!
i really like Gwyneth and her attitude..i get what she`s saying…
Another smug celebrity female who admits to getting work done, but its ok to admit since it wasn’t real surgery….she looks old and washed out to me…always has, even years ago. nice body which she kills herself to attain through admitted tracy anderson’s plan. her face is so average, she looks like a bird with a huge beak, and comes off as one of the most stuck up people ive ever read about
I don’t really have anything to say about her quote but wow Self used bad pictures of her. Like they wanted to highlight everything that could make her look older and even put a weird filter over it that makes her look a lot more leathery than she normally looks. I’m not a fan of her but she normally looks better than this (and I usually only see her on red carpet photos so I’m not even comparing it to photoshopped stuff)
Ugh. “Healthy” people that smoke irk my nerves so bad.
Its odd that she would be holding eggs in the last picture when she eats an extremely strict vegan diet of no meat, fish, EGGS, and dairy…
Self magazine photoshopped her so much for the cover but used a natural look for the photos; looks like the pictures were taken 15 years apart!
As for Gwyneth – in some quotes she comes across as very uptight and controlling, and in other she tries to project an image of being laid-back and nonchalant. When you grow up in Hollywood it’s hard to be genuine because public image is so contrived.
well gwyneth is a true (f)artist.
