Heidi Klum Responds to “Too Fat” Comment

Heidi Klum (who is 5′9,5” and 130 pounds) was recently labeled “too fat” by designer Wolfgang Joop, who said:
“She is no runway model! Heidi Klum is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. And she always grins so stupidly. That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!”
One day later, Heidi’s response came:
“It’s a life where everyone can say what they want to say and everyone can have their opinion — that is his.”
“In this business you have to be fit, but I always try to be a good role model and not too thin.”
Nice and classy response to such an absurd comment!
you know, wolfgang joop is a weird man. i am from germany and he really acts quite… funny. but, nevertheless, i think i understand what he was trying to say. heidi is clearly a glamourmodel, always was, and she is just not made for high fashion – i personally think that her face is not matching most collections. but she is very beautiful and gorgeous, just not the typical runway model – her face is not that edgy and she is too small. you know what i mean?

Heidi looks is gorgeouse , i agree that she doesn’t have your usual skinny model look , but she was/is an underware model , that’s suposed to look good(=healty , underware model=sexy body )her legs are loooooonngg and toned and she has great big boobs.Her waist isn’t that well defined , but the women is a mother of 3…
True, she’s too big to be a runway model, but IMO that’s way better. Who wants to be a clothes hanger? Besides Twiggy and a few others, runway, extremely skinny models are rarely household names. Supermodels like Heidi, Cyndi, Tyra, Giselle, Claudia, Iman, etc are not clothes hangers but sure are sexy.
That grin-thing was stupid thing to say (even though I agree with him), but I get what he meant, cause Heidi definetely isn´t a high fashion/editorial-model. But there´s nothing wrong with that.

However I don’t see why she had to reply and justify herself? I mean, her success so far speaks for itself. Well done Heidi!
I always thought she was a little on the skinny side for a VS model, actually. I just hope she doesn’t over react and go on a major diet and like starve herself and stop smiling to be ‘gaunt runway model’ like. I hope she’s more mature than that, and reacts with laughter and thinks of this ‘wolfgang’ creep as a stupid , jealous idiot. She has to know that to be womanly you have to have hips and a bum, and have to be glowing, fresh and smiling.. and the VS angels are considered to be the most beautiful models out there…i just HOPE she understands this. I somehow wish i could tell this to her personally so she could get the message because some people respond to critisism in different ways. Please don’t change Heidi, we love you just the way you are!

ugh, who would ever wanna look the way that “high-fashion” models do, anyway? heidi is gorgeous, desirable… and not to mention thin! why showcase your work on the girls they do now instead of on models like the ones for VS!? i’m sorry i just don’t get it.
he should just have said that it isn’t what he is looking for! that’s it! not labeling her “too fat” or “too heavy”! people should watch what they say! he’s not wrong though… she is not the “typical” runway model but IMO she looks WAY better than those pale, sad, long, tall and super skinny runway models
He cannot be serious, she’s nowhere near heavy. Sure she’s not the waif-type like kate moss but personally i think that looks better,the clothes look better on Heidi. Besides Heidi is perfectly fine,imo.
IMO, if Heidi Klum is not this designer’s personal taste for a model in his show, fine, but there is NO reason to call her “too fat”. How ridiculous. She has 3(?) kids and isn’t 20 yrs old anymore. She’s absolutely gorgeous and radiant, whatever size she is now, and could model for me anytime she wanted!

Joop is so dumb for making such a public statement such as this. This is ridiculously rude. Maybe he should try modeling. It’d be an epic fail, and I would laugh.
Heidi is beautiful and sexy. I DO NOT agree that she is too heavy in any way shape or form to be a “runway” model. I see how her bust and face however is more glamour than avante garde/high fashion.
I think there is always a way to say things, and the way Wolfgang said that comment about Heidi was rude and disrespectful. There is nothing FUNNY about him or that comment. He is a miserable little man that no one really knows or cares to know in the USA. I know many foreign designers as for I did go to school for fashion design and we all know the heart of fashion began in Paris and overseas. It is obvious that he just wants attention since he is not on the radar nowadays and feels irrelevant. I think his spring/summer ‘09 collection is out dated in the fabrics and prints he used. There is nothing special or fresh about his current creations. He should keep his mouth shut.
what?? heidi is fat??! that girl is a size 2 but she’s fat?! i think that’s dumb because yes she is skinny but not over the top skinny. whoever that guy is is dumb for saying that. tyra banks didn’t have the model look but she’s a supermodel and look at her now. she looks good and so does heidi. even skinny women get called fat in hollywood and that to me is sexist.

i somewhat understand where the guy is coming from, but just the way he made his statement was so malicious and seemed so much like a personal attack. no, she is not high fashion, but she is beautiful and here is no need to make nasty low blows towards her. maybe he’s jealous. i’ve never heard of him but i guess he’s getting the attention he so desperately craves now because of all of this nonsense he has stirred up. kinda makes me sick that i am fueling his desperate fire.

Heidi has a great body, but frankly you do have to be like a rail to be a runway model. Just because she’s too heavy for that doesn’t mean she’s fat and I don’t think that’s what anyone meant. I think the vast majority of people would prefer a body more like hers than the really super skinny runway model frame.
