Helen Mirren Talks Pink Hair Choice

On rocking pink hair at this year’s Oscars:
“I’d been watching America’s Top Model which I’m obsessed by,” she told BBC Breakfast while promoting her new play The Audience. This girl had her pink hair and I noticed because it came out really quickly so there she is with really pink hair and then five days later it’s all gone so I thought that would be cool, I might have a go at that”.

Agree, she’s having fun and that makes it work. Weird, on everyone else I would have said that it looks meh, but it’s Helen Mirren and she just pulls it off. Great
some people’s sexiness just makes gender and age irrelevant. helen mirren is sexy because she doesn’t give a f. and this is coming from an 18 year old girl.

She rocked the pink hair, epecially as she just had fun with it. In some ways I’m looking forward to getting older, it seems (in celeb world – idk about irl) that everyone becomes more confident and seems to live life better than those in their 20′s. Isn’t there a saying ‘youth is wasted on the young’?

honestly i’ve seen a lot of ladies her age having this grey hair colored pink-Ish and violet-Ish, in some countries there is some old fashioned way of some hair “procedure or coloring” (am not sure) so lots of my teachers had this thing going on years ago when i was still a student.
naI’m with you CK. Older ladies have been getting colour rinses in their hair for ages, it’s nothing new imo. Helen looks nice though.
Slightly off-topic lol, I’m thinking of colouring my hair with semi permanent colour this summer but I don’t know if it’ll show up since my hair is natually very dark.

Agreed! To me purple or pink hair on an older lady is not that unusual – even blue! So, it doesn’t make her look younger at all to me. I think she’s amazing though – still very attractive.
@misscheeks. I don’t have very dark hair (it’s a weird “in-between colour that is impossible to create artificially” – according to my hair dresser!), but I did a semi-permanent chestnut colour last summer with some golden highlights and no one could tell I had it coloured! Now, I may have some dense friends (or truly universally coloured hair), but it really wasn’t all that different to me either – and it wasn’t cheap, so I felt annoyed! I think it’s really hard to make much difference to darker hair without bleaching it at all – but I’m no expert. Maybe some others will have some better advice for you!
Thanks for your input Erica, I agree about the bleaching part but my hair is baby-fine in places and pretty delicate. I guess I’ll just have to settle for a subtle tint of colour!
She is, and always has been, incredibly cool. She was such a beauty back in the day, too.
While I admire her spirit for being so adventurous at her age, I think hair and women looks best w/ colors of nature, virgin hair (not chemically treated) being the best hair obviously, and then if colored, natural colors, bleached is always the worst. Not a fan of her pink, but, she doesn’t look terrible b/c of classy dress and short flattering hair style.
You know what, she looks fabulous. She’s in her 60s and she doesn’t give a damn. I wouldn’t too.
I like it, its not vibrant pink, just a tint and i think it is a fun choice for a night

I wonder if people would be so positive if this were a 40 year old, like say Cameron Diaz? I love Helen’s hair and think people should look the way they want no matter their age, but a lot of commenters talk about celebs being too “old” for certain fun looks, like Katy Perry…nice to see these comments tho.
I think the pink looks ok but she would look better with a lavender-gray color, like Kelly Osborne has.
I didn’t like her hair when I saw it on the Oscars gallery but I actually like it better now for some reason. I could never wear my hair like that without feeling self-conscious and she looks genuinely at ease, so good for her!

I like it. This shade of pink looks good as a hair color in general. It’s like Lightning or Serah from FFXIII have grown old. XD
i would LOVE to have her as a grandmother!
