Alessandra Ambrosio: “I Eat Whatever”

… but works out 4 days / week. Here are the details from People:
Losing the baby weight is one thing – but keeping it off in preparation for the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is another for model mom Alessandra Ambrosio.
“Last year, because I had a baby and I had to lose pounds, I did a lot of cardio,” Ambrosio, 28, told PEOPLE at Thursday’s Los Premios MTV 2009 in Universal City, Calif. “This year is all about weights, squats and lunges.”
Ambrosio, a Victoria’s Secret model, gave birth to a baby girl, Anja Louise Ambrosio Mazur, in August 2008. Less than four months later, she hit the runway for Victoria’s Secret, showing off a stellar post-baby body.
“After I gave birth, my diet was a very healthy diet, like no sugar, no bread,” she says. “But now, I am just eating whatever.”
The solution? “I’m working out to prepare for the show because it’s our biggest show of the year,” she says. “I’m trying to work out four days a week.”

If she eats whatever she wants she’s going to gain the weight back
scoffs…
more like her “comment” is WHATEVER
if she (and all other skinny celebs out there) eat whatever, what does that say about the rest of America that eats ‘whatever’ and somehow ends up obese? it’s such a contradiction!
The rest of America
1) Doesn’t have genes like hers and shouldn’t assume that they do unless they do and
2) Does not exercise 4 days a week. A lot of Americans don’t exercise one day a week. That’s part of our obesity problem.
Nice answer! You are SO correct. 4 days a week is great for losing weight/toning up or maintaining her type of figure. Of course, genes are #1 here as is the case with most models (in my opinion). Also, what she considers “eating whatever she wants” may not be the same the majority of obese Americans who think McDonalds burgers and fries on a daily basis is okay. She might eat a piece of pizza here or there, a dessert or bite of dessert when whe feels like it etc.
It’s all about the amounts of food you eat.
Couldn’t agree more =)
i’m with you two, casey and dr. truth. my fiance and i eat exactly the same stuff.. but somehow i’m 110 a 5′4” (slightly underweight) and he’s 220 at 6′3” (slightly overweight). the difference is our genes. my parents are both still slim; his have struggled with their weight over the years. i also work on my feet while he works at a desk, which seems to make a difference.
the other difference is (and i’m not necessarily saying this is true of ambrioso) that a lot of hollywood skinnies are coke users.
well im 5′2 and weigh 112 pounds and i workout 3 times a week and eat healthy most americans eat alot of fast food and dont workout so you can see why they would be overweight i think its genes aswell thats a factor in people who are overweight
To play devil’s advocate:
Because the rest of America can clearly afford to have a private trainer, workout all day if need be (as someone else pointed out…she doesn’t have to 9-5 job) and are able to afford food that is healthy, or even have been properly educated about nutrition and health.
Comparing a multi-millionaire who has access to endless resources to the average American is silly. Yes, it’s possible for everyone to be in great shape but if they don’t have access to the resources (…fresh produce, to some people, can be expensive compared to eating whatever is in the frozen food aisle) or worse — the knowledge to do so.
As bizarre as the concept is, some people genuinely don’t understand how to be healthy.
Haha she eats whatever but she eats once a week probably. I eat whatever and i’m like 12 pounds more then her and i’m 180sm tall and i’m not that skinny…
As a registered dietician (I had my degree last month, yupi!) I can tell you that maybe she is eating whatever but in very small portions. At the age of 28 is very difficult to keep a teenage weight without trying hard.
On the other hand there are people, the so called naturally thin, who have low appetite and they do not realise that they are eating very few calories. My sister is like that, (also a fan of versus) says she eats whatever she wants but in reality she never exceeds 1200 calories.
Zoi, my sister is 30 years old. She has had 2 kids. She is 5′7 and short of 115 pounds. She does have a small appetite, but she makes sure to eat at least 2000 calories every day because her doctor told her to, and because she doesn’t want to lose more weight.
I don’t know if Alessandra is one of those people, but the fact that you are a registered dietitian and not aware of these anomalies worries me. I once had an emergency room doctor who refused to treat me for a severe stomach virus because he was convinced that the reason why I was throwing up was anorexia. I think medical personnel should be open to all possibilities and I hope that you will be too.
Your sister, her 2 kids, an anomaly, you throwing up and a doctor who refused to treat you….I really don’ t understand what you are trying to say.
And no, I dont need your ‘hopes’ I studied enough years, in excellent universities and hospitals, in order to be sure that I do my job in the best possible way. Also please try to select your doctors according to their degrees and experience and not their ‘openness’ (whatever you mean by that)
What I’m trying to say is that sometimes you’re going to come across something that is unusual and that you didn’t read in a textbook or witness at an internship. Rather than treating the person in the way that a textbook recommends, sometimes it’s good to look at a patient individually and form a different treatment approach. If nobody told you that in your many years of study at excellent universities, then your education is average or subpar.
And thank you for instructing me on how to select my doctors. But I’m going to stick with not only looking at degrees and experience, but also accreditation and individualized treatment approaches. I like doctors that can think for themselves.
You have no right to talk about my education. And also to conclude what I have read or how I work.
You have offensive manners, you say things that make no sense(a good degree and experience is the opposite of individualized treatment? where did that come from?) and you obviously like to fight with people. Well I don’t like to fight my dear because I am a very happy person, with a good job and a nice life. Also I am thin because I eat a balanced diet (no anomaly here, I bet this pissed you off
)
I’m actually very polite and friendly.
When I first replied to you it was out of a genuine worry, not to be mean. It was because you were rude to me that I was then rude to you. Maybe I overstepped myself. If I offended you, I’m sorry, but you offended me as well.
As for not making sense, I think I made sense. If you don’t understand what I am saying, then nevermind.
And as for you being thin and eating a balanced diet, that’s great actually. That’s the correct way to be thin. I’m not sure you understand what “anomaly” means though, because if you did, then why would you expect me to be pissed off? Anomaly means an extremely rare case. All I said was there are some people that do eat 2000 calories and yet are still underweight/thin. They are extremely rare cases because most people aren’t like that. Why would you being thin and eating a balanced diet piss me off?
Anyway I’m turning off notifications for this thread, so if you want to argue back or something, don’t bother because I won’t read it. Wish you luck with your good job/nice life/happy personality.
She eats whatever like “I love healthy food” whatever or ‘really tiny amounts of whatever”?
When se says whatever, I think she means whatever but healthy food like salads, meat, vegetables, chicken, rice, some pasta… and also sweets and fast food but only sometimes. And I’m sure she doesn’t eat big portions.
I hate it when these skinny models and actresses say they eat “whatever” because what they consider “whatever” is not what the average american population would consider constitutes as whatever. They should just say what they eat so there won’t be this confusion.
I think she’s one of those people who are naturally skinny, and who can eat whatever (haha) and not gain.
One of my friends is like that, she is sOOOO skinny, like 175cm and 44 kg or something, and she was even skinnier growing up (under 40 kg, same height), yet the girl eats like a horse.
I’ve seen her eat, and it always amuses me when we meet new people, how they’re shocked at her appetite.
Think 3-4 courses per meal. Think sweets in between meals. Think lots of fatty food everyday.
Yet she’s soooo friggin skinny. But do I envy her? Not really, while on the outside she’s skinny, on the inside, she’s got horrible blood results, she’s 23, and I’ve seen similar results from 40 year old obese people.
Just cuz it doesn’t show on the outside, doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect you.
44kg. Is that an exaggeration? It would look awful. A lot of high fashion models are 175cm but weigh at least 6 more kgs than that.
I am 180cm and a few years back i weighed 56kg and you could count all my ribs. I don’t think I would have lived being any skinnier than that…
No, it’s not an exageration. She does look extremely skinny, but she also has a super small bone structure, so she doesn’t look anorexic/haggard/too bony.
And yes, I’ve seen pics of her when she was 38 kg, at the same height, through no fault of her own. It took a team of doctors to be able to put some weight on her.
My point is – people like this exist, and there are degrees of metabolism where normal rules don’t apply. Of course not all models have this quality, but some definitely do, otherwise how could they handle the job?
I agree that her whatever propably isn’t what someone else would mean by that word. Once you get in to the healthy lifestyle you don’t wanna be eating junk all the time and feel like it’s your own choice to eat those veggies etc, hence it doesn’t feel like the kind of “i can’t eat cake” thing. Also, she said she didn’t eat white bread etc, so maybe she is now, and even desserts etc are possible if not eaten too often / too big proportions. If she had said “i eat how much i want to and don’t think about it ever” i would have hard time believong, but eating whatever just means not having any banned foods in your diet.
* portions, not proportions + a few other typos, lol
I agree with you. We are just brainwashed by fad diet and dozen kind of weight loss advices that we are gaing weight from this kind of food or other kind of food. Everybody is different. You can gain weight from any kind of food and lost weight from any kind of food. It depends of how much of food you are eating and when you are eating. I have lost about 30 pounds by eating “whatever I want”, just restrict size of portion and not eating solid food after 5 pm (just fruit, yogurt or soup). And, ou, sorry for my not perfect english.
And, I forgot to say, I gained those 30 pound by eating very very healthy and doing cardio 1 hour everyday. I have just eaten too much of healthy food
.
I find it funny that so many people (not on this thread, mostly on other threads) find it so DIFFICULT to believe that she could actually eat all sorts of food. They would LOVE for her to be suffering for an eating disorder. I’m not sure why, I would never wish that on anyone, but for those people that is the only possible explanation that they will accept.
It’s been proven that there are certain people that can eat ANYTHING and still fail to gain weight. On an all McDonalds-type diet, I only gain 5 pounds and that’s it.
On top of that, she works out 4 days a week, several hours a day. If you have genes that make it hard to gain weight, and then work out, then yes, it’s very believeable that she can actually eat whatever. In addition, working out will make sure she doesn’t develop problems from eating “whatver.” I’m sure she actually eats nutritious food, but I think she was trying to say she’s not against eating a burger if she feels like it. Good for her.
My only problem with her is I liked her old post-pregnancy figure. Now she seems to have overtoned her legs and they look too sinewy.
I agree with everything you said, it’s like people don’t WANT to believe it. I disagree about her legs though, I think they look so sexy.
I agree with Casey. I eat whatever I want and don’t gain weight. Last year i was eating at Mcdonald everyday, yes everyday, sometimes 3 times a day, i was like addicted and I haven’t gained weight! I love junk food (i know it’s not healthy though)!! I had a blood test 3 weeks ago and everything is fine. My mom has to hide the food when i am home because i eat everything!!
When I was younger people was having fun of me because i looked really skinny but I wasn’t. Indeed, I was 5′6 and about 54kg (119 lb), but looked really skinny for some reasons…Now I am 5′7 and 120lb and still look really skinny. And i have a butt and big breasts. I wear a size 0 and even 00 in A&F clothes for instance. My mom is really thin and was really skinny when she was younger, so are my dad and my brother.
And sorry for my english I am french
well anyone can eat ‘whatever’ they want. they could eat Mcdonalds and if that is their only meal all day then they could be this thin,, doesnt mean they would be healthy! as long as the calorie count is low it doesnt matter what you put into your body. also she is a model.her job is to be skinny. you may very well eat ‘whatever’ you want but when she says she does eat ‘whatever’ it probably doesnt really eat that badly. maybe a slice of cake per wk or something! or cake instead of lunch and afteroon tea- that way you would still stay skinny! just because you ’say’ thats what you do doeant mean its tru for everyone. for all you know your portions could also be smaller than regular ppls or mavybe you eat so often your metabolism is fied up. maybe you have an overractive thyroid. there are so many different explanations…and being this thin imo is not something i would be too proud of personally…
Most celebs and models seem to lie about their diet…I don’t know maybe they want people to think that they are perfect and that they have a perfect life, but she’s not superhuman one day it will likely catch up to her.
Btw- SAME dress selita ebanks wore to an event before. Wonder if she borrowed it? hahah
I think she’s naturally this thin and she probably can eat whatever she wants. Whether or not she eats small portions is another story and we don’t know.
Ok, all those people who can’t believe that she eats whatever she wants…cut the crap. I’m in my twenties, around her weight and eat absolutely whatever I feel like and when I feel like it, and more than a lot of my friends. I totally agree with Alias, you people don’t want to believe it, you want to think that she’s killing herself to look like that.
Sure, she probably eats whatever, but she probably eats in healthy-sized portions. Which is common sense for how we should eat, really.
technically, anyone could eat “whatever she wants” if they burned enough calories to maintain their weight. she doesn’t have a 9-to-5 job like the typical person, so if need be, she could work out all day for hours on end, with the help of a personal trainer.
some women are just born lucky. so perfect and beautiful.
it’s her genes. and the fact that she works out as well, but more to the genes.
i have a friend who eats whatever she wants and is still super skinny(like size 00 skinny)! she’s tried to put on weight but everything has failed, she’s just born that way.
*i am so jealous*
I don’t believe for a second that she’s naturally THIS skinny.
If she was, she wouldn’t have struggled so much to lose her baby fat…. She would have snapped back in no time without effort (just like my sister did!!!).
Also, saying that a “very healthy diet” consists in no sugar and no bread is the biggest BS I’ve ever heard…. She should speak to a serious nutritionist instead of consulting a lousy celeb-money-hungry-doctor.
by saying ‘no sugar, no bread’ i am assuming she means the celebrity translation ‘no carbs’ aka no fruit either. i doubt she means what lay ppl would mean when they say that (no refined sugar, no simple carbs i.e. white bread). i am sorry but it is not totally here ‘genes’ to stay this thin. this is THIN. i would call is very near skeletal (and no i am not fat or ‘for’ unhealthy eating and unhealth weights)…but being too skinny is also an unhealthy weight. and her saying ‘no sugar, no bread’ im sure does not mean it was ‘healthy’like she says at all. just lacking in carbs. which is NOT healthy
Amen. I agree 100%
I totally agree with you.
Charlatans call themselves dieticians, give diets called ‘detox’ or ‘no bread no sugar’ or ‘low carb’ , just to impress their clients and the only thing they are doing is to destroy their health.
I wish more people were thinking like you.
bu saying ‘no sugar, no bread’ i am assuming she means the celebrity translation ‘no carbs’ aka no fruit either. i doubt she means what lay ppl would mean when they say that (no refined sugar, no simple carbs i.e. white bread). i am sorry but it is not totally here ‘genes’ to stay this thin. this is THIN. i would call is very near skeletal (and no i am not fat or ‘for’ unhealthy eating and unhealth weights)…but being too skinny is also an unhealthy weight. and her saying ‘no sugar, no bread’ im sure does not mean it was ‘healthy’like she says at all. just lacking in carbs. which is NOT healthy
Lucky bitch
I am only 15 and I can not eat what ever I eat 800 calories and I run two miles every day. Sometimes I run five and I am not even as skinny as her granted I have muscle but still I don’t unerstand how she can eat anything she wants. I hope it doesn’t get worse for me.
danielle, you are not eating enough calories, especially if you are running. your body adjusts its metabolism to survive. depending on your weight and height and muscle mass, there is a certain amount of calories you burn every day just doing normal things. obviously you burn more if you run. so there is a certain amount of calories you need each day to maintain your current weight. if you eat less than that amount, you normally lose weight.
but if you eat too little, your body starts needing fewer calories. it does this to survive, like if you were stuck in a desert. so even though you are eating very little and working out a lot, your body is clinging to whatever it has and not allowing you to lose weight. you are messing up your metabolism and will make it harder for you to stay thin as an adult.
i suggest you increase your calories gradually and keep working out. add some light weight moves and strength moves like lunges. you will not bulk up unless you are eating like a bodybuilder. you will get lean muscle which burns more calories when you are at rest, so you can get away with eating more.
I never comment but this time I had to. Ale is an Angel and keeps fit, I would not say she looks too thin here, she is naturally svelte but she worked hard to lose her baby weight and she looks pretty toned to me. In fact her goal I think for VS is to look a little more filled out, so I don’t think she kills herself to stay so thin and she probably has carbs sometimes I’m sure.
I think some people on here would love for her to kill her self working out or starving in order to stay so thin, but the should just accept that she is probably just naturally thin because of good genes. I think some people on here are trying to be doctors by ASSUMING things like that she doesn’t eat carbs at all. That’s assuming a lot. I’m sure she can eat what she wants, plus she is working out as well, because it’s her job to stay in shape. She looks thin but toned and fit here to me, she was thinner before her baby, but it looks like she has toned herself more, that’s all.
My brother is 5.9″ and eats whatever he wants, icecream, chocolate, lollies ect and he can squeeze into his girlfriends size 4 jeans lol. By the way he is a soccer player and is very toned with little fat. His girlfriend eats whatever too but they do so in moderation ie 3 scoops of icecream not a whole tub, 2-3 rows of chocolate and maybe like a few hand fulls of lollies and they do this every now and then not everyday. They never watch their weight or eat low fat anything. They just don’t stick to strict diets or worry how much they weigh or eating lunch at 12 on the dot, they eat when they are hungry, eat reasonably healthy most of the time and as I said eat treats every now and then so thery don’t feel deprived.
It’s not about what you eat, it’s about how much you eat. And she works out like crazy, i’m sure, and she does not have a desk job so that she can pack the lbs. I eat everything, but i eat small amounts. But that’s how i’m built, i mean it often happens that i feel like i overate and people stare like omg, but that was such a small meal, how was that even enough? Trying to eat 4-5 time a day, small amounts, all types of food, you can even have treats like a burger or some french fries or cake once in a while, work out, be active, have fun. Add to all these a small bone structure (which Alessandra clearly has) and there you have it. Maybe it’s also a cultural thing, i’m not from the usa or the american continent, but i do believe that you can eat whatever and look like that.
What’s her body type? I am built in pretty much same manner, and I eat as much as I want, whatever I want. But, I could never completely decide what my body type is. and yeah, I am a bit different from her, I have larger breasts…:)))
I think she is a slim hourglass (after all, hourglass shapes are not reserved just for fuller figured girls…it just means that the shoulders are the same size as the hips and the waist is noticeably smaller). She could also be a slim pear because from some angles her shoulders look smaller than her hips. Some people have said that she is a rectangle shape, but I think she has too much waist definition to be a rectangle.
Alessandra looks fab.
Also its not so important to be skinny just to be healthy and happy with yourself. It doesnt matter who naturally cant gain weight or not. Working out a bit and eating better foods gives you more energy, which I appreciate just as much as the physical change in appearance.
