Heidi Klum’s View on Size 0

The German supermodel has slammed the controversial US dress size – equivalent to a UK dress size 4 or a European size 32.
Heidi says: “A size zero? I’ve never heard of that. That didn’t exist when I was growing up. When did that start? What does it mean? It means a person is not there, no? It makes no sense.”

Wow, good for her. I don’t know what dress size she is, but I’ve heard she’s not the thinnest model. Or something like that. I like the image she promotes, especially because she is not afraid to speak out and is still risking many job opportunities for doing so.
She’s adorable. I’m a size 0/00, but then again, I’m 5′3, not 5′11…unfortunately.
I love this woman!
Love her sarcasm on the size 0 debate…….’It means a person is not there, no”
Haha
i can’t stand the whole size 0 and 00 thing. clothes makers do this crap on purpose so you will buy their clothes. Studies show that women are more likely to buy something if it says they are a size smaller. So really, a size 00 should really be a size 2 and so on.
I do not get this skinny thing at all. Im also refering to the post about Tori and Rachel where they are both so skinny they could snap. We are women who are born to be women with breasts in every possible size, hips so that we can have babies, thighs, a but and arms that are thicker then a stick. It so sad that these women actaully think that it looks good.
Heidi is just gorgeous.
she’s beautiful and has sense of humor, love her!
I wear size 0 clothing (or sometimes double 0) but I am in no way nonexistent (or extremely thin). I’m not as tall as Heidi (I’m 5′4), so If my height and weight increased proportionately so that my new height is equal to 5′11, then I probably would need to wear a size 4 like Heidi. So size 0 doesn’t always mean that you are stick thin. It could mean that you’re just short or petite.
I just hate it how others assume that if you’re a size 0, you are automatically considered to be extremely skinny. Plus, the number “0″ is arbitrarily assigned– you can multiply all dress sizes by 2 so that a size 0 is now a size 2, and a size 2 is now a size 4, etc. So the numbers really have no real meaning.
Moreover, the reason why size 0 now exists is because it is really a size 2 (or even size 4) in disguise. Manufacturers have constantly been inflating sizes to such lengths that a size 4 from 10 years ago is now considered a size 0. This is called “vanity sizing” (or deflating sizes so that size 2 customers can now feel that they are a size 0, for instance). It is a common practice that companies use to increase sales. Sooner or later we will be seeing more double zeros, and even size 000, as manufacturers continue to practice vanity sizing.
So Heidi should not forget about vanity sizing or even the shorter, petite, or naturally skinny people who wouldn’t look good in clothing if small sizes did not exist! I do applaud her though, for speaking out about Hollywood’s and the fashion world’s obsession with size and weight.
Seriously, I think Heidi was talking more about the size in theory rather than talking trash about people who wear size zero. I think she was saying that calling something size zero doesn’t make sense, which is totally true. It is due to vanity sizing, which is very frustrating b/c sizes keep getting bigger and there is no consistency across brands.
I get very frustrated when people try to say that people in Hollywood are so skinny and that people used to “celebrate” curves and the feminine form. Then they go on to say that Marilyn Monroe wore a size twelve as proof. Well, because of vanity sizing Marilyn would wear a zero or two today – she had a 22″ waist and 35″ hips according to her dressmaker!!!
Yes, I agree. I know Heidi’s message is that the number “0″ should not be used to designate a certain size, because it implies that you have no size (or that you are not there!) But many may interpret her message to mean that being a size 0 is bad and that your too skinny. If Hedi was a size 0 herself, I don’t think she would have phrased her statement in such a way. A better way she could have gotten her message across is by saying, “I don’t understand why clothing manufacturers have to designate small sizes as a size “0.” It doesn’t make sense, because the number zero literally means exactly that– zero! Small sizes should therefore be redefined as not size “0″ or “00″ but more practical sounding sizes like size 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.”
I really agree; I actually think British sizing makes more sense. Then a 00 would be a 2, 0 would be 4, etc. And manufacturers should be required to be consistent!! It would just make life so much easier.
I think it’s interesting that our society as a whole has become so much bigger that people think it is unusual or “looks disgusting” to be very slim. I agree that there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed (i.e. Lindsey Lohan, Victoria Beckham), but a lot of people who are at a healthy, slim weight are trashed for being to skinny. The reality is, we are so used to seeing overweight people around us that healthy weights look unusual and unhealthy to our eyes.
omg! i hate that I can be a size 4 in one store a size 6 in another and then go in another and a size 8 doesn’t fit! wtf! if someone looked at what sizes some of my clothes were they would think i was like some yo-yo dieter
Totally, and then when you go to a new store you have to take 2 or 3 different sizes into the dressing room. It would be so much easier if it was consistent.
hedi’s body is lovely nice long legs n slim
Too right! 90s Supermodels are so over the whole new ’size zero’ thing.
Heidi is GORGEOUS.
Size zero exists because fat self conscious cows like Klum want to feel better about themselves. So labels started “vanity sizing”, and size 8’s became size 6’s, and size 4’s became size 2’s. This pushed real size 2’s in to the realm of 0. If vain heffers like Klum continue to gorge themselves, labels are going to start introducing negative numbers. Will Klum then slander these folks as “negative people”. Klum is just jealous. She knows the reason she never became a real model was her weight, so she trashes people that were able to control their body more. It’s disgusting. And to those who say Klum is “funny”, well, you must have never heard her interviewed. She is the most dour, humorless person you could ever imagine.
