I read somewhere that the photographer for this cover/editorial is Terry Richardson. I’m glad that this particular pics with Doutzen is decent cause Terry is DIRTY. Look at his previous works and the recent Pirelli calendar lol.
Also, i’ve never seen Doutzen closed her lips whether it’s for an ad campaign, magazine editorial or cover! Doutzen learn how to close your big lips for a change!

I love doutzen and think she is so insanely gorgeous but I just don’t see a high fashion model.
When I think high fashion I think Gisele. She may not be a natural beauty to some people but to me she is everything a supermodel is suppose to be.
Well Doutzen used to be a real high fashion model before joining the tacky and cheap VS! IMO, she’s still a bit high fashion until now cause she’s still a regular on Vogue covers/editorials and still has ads for a not so commercial brands…
I agree, and I am not questioning wether she is a high fashionmodel or not, I just don’t think she looks like one. And yes, how do a high fashion model look like, and I can’t answer that, I just know one when I see one. Like for me, gisele.
I don’t see her as high fashion either. Her facial features are definitely more commercial. When I think of high fashion I don’t necessarily think of someone beautiful, I think of someone striking and unusual. I think of someone very androgynous, edgy or unique in one way or another. I think of someone who is so versatile they can portray a variety of things: ferocity and docility, sultriness and innocence, and they can give the air of being aloof as well as giving the impression that they are friendly and approachable. (I mean that they can do both in different photoshoots: not both at the same time.) In my opinion, Doutzen does not appear to have that ability. For me, she always has the same expression on her face. She’s a beautiful woman, no doubt, but I do not think she has that special talent or the face for high fashion.
If she’s not that versatile of a model, why she’s still getting jobs for some hifashion or commercial stuffs… why also she’s a regular on the covers/editorials for Vogue or other highfashion magazines… why also companies put her billboards on the streets of NewYork…
To each his own, but i believe Doutzen won’t get this far if she is NOT versatile or just plain boring!
I will never understand why people get so defensive about someone they have never even met in their life and probably never will.
I never said she did not get high fashion jobs, I said it is my OPINION that she does not have the talent or the typical face for it. Even wikipedia says this about models:
Many high fashion models have what could be called ‘quirky’ attributes and memorably unusual faces. High end brands often use these unusual faces as people are likely to remember their brand name and associate it with an interesting face.
And I simply don’t think Doutzen has a ‘quirky’ face. I never said she was boring. Usually non-high fashion (commercial) faces are the types of faces that appeal to the masses because they are more conventionally beautiful/sexy. i.e. Big eyes, small perky nose, plump lips. Just like Doutzen.
If you think she is versatile, can you show me photos of where she displays the states I mentioned before? i.e. not just looking at the camera with her mouth open? Can you find a photoshoot where she looks different in every picture?
You are so right. I mean i really like how Doutzen looks, but you are right that she is many time espresionless. And the only thing she seems to do is keep her mouth opened – just like Bar, who is equally extremely attractive and beautiful, but again, not very expressive. Eva Hertzigova just popped up in my mind as completely opposite. Or Giselle who has way more intriguing photoshoots, even though technicaly she is not as pretty as Doutzen or Bar.

in a previous article where doutzen was posing with alessandra, some people were calling doutzen ‘moon-faced’, ‘chubby’ and even ‘fat’ if i remember correctly. if this gorgeous, slim model is what they consider fat, i shudder to think whom they consider to be average-figured or thin. doutzen looks incredibly gorgeous here but i agree with versus. she needs to close her mouth.

Criticisms are plain natural when it comes to Doutzen threads. Her fans at different fashion sites are always at war saying Doutzen is fat, too muscular, boring, and has gone downhill and tacky since becoming a VS angel.
Poor girl, most of her fans are very hard to please, selfish and rude!
the people insulting doutzen or her ‘fans’ as you call them (though i’d call them ‘former fans’) are right about one thing. she’s pretty boring when it comes to making facial expressions but their other claims have no validity IMO. and i truly don’t understand what all the b*tching about doutzen is for. she isn’t a substance-abuser like kate moss was, nor does she have an on again-off again relationship with a man who’s a horrible influence on her (also like kate). doutzen is also clearly not dying from an eating disorder. so what’s the problem? honestly there’s no reason to hate a model just ’cause she makes dull facial expressions when posing for the camera.
I also don’t get why some ‘fans/former fans’ keep on hating Doutzen… i mean common she didn’t lie or pretend! All she did is quit runway works(who knows if she’ll be back in just a matter of time) and join VS.

I think what makes us feel she’s not a high fashion model is the lack of variation in her expression … her eyes DO talk to the camera but she’s always saying the same thing … and yeah, the open lipped pout doesn’t help that … great, incredible body – in fact, the body of a fashion model … but it’s not the most fascinating, attention grabbing set of photos that you want to go back and revisit because of her expression – it lacks edge.
Oh – and maybe the lack of variation could be as much about the connection between her and the photographer as anything else?

I think models really often keep their mouths open in photoshoots – I once read an article where photographes told they always ask their models to open their mouths a bit, because it looks less harsh. Maybe Doutzen´s lips highlights it. She looks stunning as always.

That is photshoped, for crying out loud. Learn the difference ppl, stop being such sheep believing everything the media shows you. Especially ads! And you say it yourself: unreal! And that’s what it is, that ad is not her real body, is her body altered to make it look perfect. Here i was, naively thinking that by now ppl have learned to spot airbrushing and to understand that beauty is not photoshop or unrealistic images, but on the contrary.
Agreed. Even in these pictures, especially the first one, she is heavily airbrushed. Her waist isn’t that small. She’s a beautiful girl, but her waist to hip ratio is not that defined, not because she’s fat (so please don’t go off on me about how I’m calling her fat) but because of her bone structure.
Out of all of the VS Angels, she’s the least attractive to me. She’s very pretty, but I can see better looking people than her on a day to day basis. I don’t think she’s worth 6 million a year and I was shocked to hear she earns that much but whatever, I guess people like her.
I think Doutzen can be considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. Actually, I think that all the VS angels are absolutely stunning. Go and watch the VS fashion shows on you tube, those women are as close to perfection (physically) as they come. Would Doutzen be so succsessful if she wasn’t good looking and talented?!!!

I think the lips open is just natural. I have large lips like hers and when my face is relaxed my lips naturally part too. Maybe she should learn to control her face more though so she provides a bit of variety for the shoot (considering the amount she gets paid to pose looking hot!)

I think Doutzen is high fashion, and she does have a certain quality that I love about her. She always looks innocent. Fresh. It’s surprising, she can do high fashion and commercial, however, because of her body, which is not as lean or thin as most fashion models, most make the mistake that she is unable to do high fashion. From neck up, Doutzen is perfection. I think she just needs longer legs. That’s all that bugs me about her. I mean in the first pic? Bleh! She has this kind of deer caught in headlights look that I’m not sure I like. I do LOVE the sixth one, though. I think Doutzen is high fashion, just check out some of her poses. I don’t know where I can get the link to this, but in one shot she is tucking her head to her shoulder and WOW. The shot is gorgeous.

I agree with what you said about Doutzen being a HF model, heck that’s where her career started! And came along these commercial contracts that offer big bucks, which she can never earn as a HF model.
As for her body, yes not typical of those HF gals, but look at Lara Stone(one of the top HF models today) who has a curvacious body and also an exception to the androgeny that consists this HF modelling.
My opinion is, Doutzen, along with other HF models will stick to being HF if big commercial contracts didn’t come knocking on their respective careers.

I think someone like freja beha erichsen is much more versatile and intriguing to look at whereas I feel that doutzen is ‘just a pretty face’, she doesn’t do anything for me.
