Plus-Size Model Hunter McGrady in Sports Illustrated

Hunter McGrady - Sports Illustrated 2017 - 10

Name: Hunter McGrady

Age: 23

Height: 5’11” / 180 cm

Measurements: 45″-38″-52″ / 114-97-132 cm

Ashley Graham is not the only plus-size model in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition this year (and Robyn Lawley definitely doesn’t qualify as plus anymore) – meet blonde beauty Hunter McGrady, who rocks the pages of the publication dressed in… well, nothing besides body paint.

A few quotes from Hunter:

“I always wanted to be a model. My mom was a model, and my grandma, and my aunt, so I was always around it. And I always remember looking at my mom and being like ‘I want to be you.’ That never changed for me. I knew from the moment I knew what it was that I wanted to do this. I didn’t work very much as a straight sized model because I am a very hippy person. Although I was 115 pounds and I’m 5’11—I was very very tiny for my height—I could never get rid of my hips.”

“My main goal is to get across to women that you are able to love your body at any size and that you’re sexy and beautiful at any size. Beauty is not a size and I’m really happy that the industry is accepting body diversity. I use my Instagram a lot to promote body diversity because it’s a building platform and it’s continuing to grow. And just even posting on there unphotoshopped photos, photos of me where my cellulite is showing, where my stretch marks are showing, where I have rolls. And I think women, and girls, and teenagers see that and can relate and feel comfortable in their body to know I’m putting myself out there saying ‘I have these things too.”

First, if she really was 115lb and 5′ 11” at one time, that is a bmi of 16.0. Now I’m not sure what her current bmi is – but it means unless she had a period of gaining muscle/fitness – that kind of extreme skinny to her current weight doesn’t seem healthy.

Ashley Graham who has nice muscle definition in her legs seems more natural and is a better role model imo.comment image

okay I’m responding to myself, her instagram she looks so much better! They just photoshopped her so extremely it makes it seems like she has no muscle what so ever…her insta shows her fitness more.

the insta pictures might be photoshopped?

Hmm it could be. In that case, her PS skills are better than SI editors lol

Very unflattering swimsuit and poses for her size. I don’t understand what happened to sports illustrated, but people buy these magazine because they are into fitness and models who are fit. I don’t understand how overweight models even fit into magazines like this. It certainly isn’t going to help sales. Being politically correct doesn’t sell magazines, printing what people are interested in does. If not for pleasing your audience, atleast do it for women’s health. There is nothing healthy about being overweight and it certainly doesn’t help women.

I agree. I have nothing against women who are overweight and they can look sexy at times, but it isn’t a healthy look and that look seems out of place in the fitness world.

Just a note, she is wearing body paint, not a swimsuit.

except that the vast majority of SI models are not fit AT ALL, so it’s really not that different. The only time I saw fit women in SI was Ronday Rousey and Lindsey Vonn(I think?), or other actual athletes. The models they choose are just skinny with big b00bs, thats it. It’s definitely catering towards men/soft p&rn type stuff, not fitness imo.

“…just skinny with big b❆❆bs”.

yeah, because “every woman strives [to be in sports illustrated].” please… plus sized models should really avoid being on the beach shoots because it creates that beached-whale aesthetic. i’m all for body-positivity and all (love yourself), but the plus-sized movement has shifted more toward “it’s okay to be fat-obese and have a heart attack in 5 years” kinda thing. also, her voice sounds like the naive 23 year old she is. good for her for fulfilling her “dream” of being in SI but jeezz, up your standards and learn some presentation skills. i find this utterly un-sexy and rather annoying.

This plus-size movement is getting ridiculous. All these women are just fooling themselves. They neglect their bodies, have no healthy mindset, nor discipline whatsoever. So they want everyone to accept their lifestyle. Because you know, it’s easier to ramble than to put some actual effort into bettering yourself.

That body paint is nice, but there’s nothing nice about this model Imo. She looks way overweight. Even Ashley Graham looks more comfortable in her skin. I’m all for body diversity because we all have different body types, bone structures and we carry our weight different. But this just screams pure neglect and laziness to me. But she has quite perky breasts.

I also don’t find her good looking in any way, usually the overweight models at least have beautiful faces, but hers just isn’t, at least to me. I also don’t feel better about my body if I see an obese person flaunting their rolls on instagram. I know they exist, it’s fine, I don’t need a proof they do, and *gasp* maybe even go out in public. I don’t see how that’s empowering. I had disordered eating for probably at least 15 years, and seeing fat people in media didn’t have any effect on my wellbeing. I feel better about… Read more »

Exactly – this SI shoot isn’t doing this model, or any plus size model justice. I actually wonder if the photographer was subconsciously trolling her.

She is actually pretty fit, I don’t understand it at all. Either she very recently gained more or something. https://www.instagram.com/p/BJOUQAbgqFt/

You’re right, she looks best in the mirror shots, looks like she knows her angles much better than the photographer who shot her extra bloated. With all the editing that they do it’s weird to see this in the mag.

she might be overweight due to an illness?

Sorry! I am posting up a storm here. But just want to point out that Ashley Graham shouldn’t in the same category as Hunter…I mean look at her SI video. She understands fashion, worked so well with the photographer, and knows her body so well. (trying to embed the video, hope it works/is allowed) . If not here is the direct link: http://www.si.com/swimsuit/model/ashley-graham/2017/videos/intimates

Guys! I think she’s so beautiful, and I think she’s more realistic and her plus-size essence is less “styled” than AG. Not that there should be a competition, but I like everything about her. Only thing about Ashley that bothers me sometimes is she poses to look thinner, or only shows her good side. One will rarely see her posed like this, because she may look more similar than you think! She’s usually only posed from the front, or side and usually wide-angled. What we see of her is lovely — but is it all of her? Not quite. Don’t… Read more »

I just don’t get why there has to be PC equality nowadays. Let’s face it…this is a men’s magazine that is a step up from Playboy. Most men fantasize about women they can’t have, the ideal “10.” And hey, I get it, it’s ok for models to cater to and fulfill that desire. My point is that she is nowhere near a “10.” I’m not saying there needs to be all the same type of model cast for this magazine or others like it (tall, tan, big breats, etc.), but this level of PC BS is ridiculous. She isn’t even… Read more »

Getting a lil tired of all the dudes bashing plus sized girls. You guys don’t speak for all of us men and some of us (quite a few actually) prefer women who are larger & who have really nice curves. I also find her WAY more sexy than the bony twigs that are called supermodels. But to each their own. She is a gorgeous woman & belongs in SI as much as anyone else does. Beautiful women come in all shapes & sizes.
