Jessica Biel Says Her Hotness Is Costing Her Jobs
Here we go again: first Jessica Alba, then Megan Fox, now Jessica Biel. They all think that “being too hot” is a problem for their careers:
Jessica Biel says her good looks are hurting her career.
“Yeah, it really is a problem,” Biel tells the June issue of Allure magazine. “I have to be blunt.”
The actress — whose latest film, Powder Blue, (in which she plays a stripper) is going to straight to DVD — isn’t handed plum roles.
“I’m in there with everybody else, fighting for the good parts. Yes, The Illusionist has made a difference — but a huge, massive difference, so I can pick and choose what I want? No.”
Biel, 27, covets the careers of Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman.
“I just want an opportunity. If you don’t like the audition, don’t hire me!” she says. “But if you don’t want to even see me — that’s hurtful. And why? You know nothing about me!”

I just don’t understand. There are plenty of super hot, super stunning women that get a lot of parts – 2 of them were mentioned in the above article, so hearing so many actresses complaining that hotness is a problem just doesn’t make much sense.

It shouldn’t be an issue at all in her case, as both Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson are way hotter than her. The difference is they are also incredibly talented, and don’t play in trashy movies just for money. Something should change in her attitude. She’d better think more about acting then her beauty if she wants better parts.

I know Charlize Theron is one of the most beautiful women out there and she was in Monster….that is not a role made for someone “hot”. It takes talent and it’s easier to think I’m too pretty than I suck at acting and I only go the roles I did because i was pretty!

She has an amazing body but facially she’s not all that. Sexy, but not really beautiful. Unlike the other women mentioned. And I think the reasons these women (Biel, Fox) don’t get roles is because they aren’t talented as others. It’s so arrogant to whine about being too beautiful to get parts.
Next thing someone will complain they’re in too good shape or their hair is too blonde to get roles.

I agree with everything you said. She has one of my favorite bodys in Hollywood (not too skinny, toned, athletic). But can she even act? Wow, I wish I was this delusional about things in my life . . . “I didn’t do as well on my undergrad because I was too smart. . . ” or whatever

it’s weird, i don’t think it’s about looks OR about talent…personally I think natalie portman and scarlett johansson are mediocre actresses at best! the difference is that they have a different reputation than Jessica Biel does. First of all, she started off on television and rebelled against her show by posing in Maxim at a really young age. Then she started dating one of the biggest pop stars the planet. the girl just attacts the kind of media attention that most major movie studios don’t want to deal with. The same is true for Megan Fox….so on top of being so-so actresses, these girls are also bad news for the producers, it doesn’t surprise me at all that they don’t get parts. their name precedes them, as they say.

i can’t think of a woman i’ve ever seen in a movie, who wasn’t absolutely beautiful on some level. the idea that hollywood castings are going to ugly girls just sounds like total bull to me in the first place.

I just HATE when actresses blames their looks. I remember reading Julianne Moore once said she was told she can´t get any parts because she isn´t beautiful enough, and I couldn´t believe it, since I find her extremely beautiful in a unique way. When Biel – and all the others- says things like this, it is just as absurd – just the other way around.

She’s very boring, like the color taupe. In fact, that’s practically the only color she wears…I know many men who like her looks A LOT but does she have the acting chops to be considered for the same parts as Natalie Portman? No, neither does Megan Fox. Not getting parts because of one’s looks is just an excuse that one cannot act. There are plenty of gorgeous women in Hollywood who have succeeded in the film industry because they possess many qualities, not just looks. This woman is starting to annoy me, shut up already!
I was reading more quotes from this article yesterday and it sounded like she was talking more about how modern her looks are. I think what is written here is slightly misinterpreting what she was trying to get across. Maybe she meant that she was getting more “sex symbol” parts than actual roles. It’s possible that she doesn’t have the talent; I’m not trying to comment on that one way or another. But it sounds like she is trying to transition to a certain type of career and directors are not even willing to let her read for the roles that she wants. That must suck.

it’s not due to her being too too pretty, it’s, like has been pointed out, her reputation, or even more her image, what kind of wibe she gives when she meets people. That’s so ridiculous. I was just on the phone with my husband, and he goes, “It’s not their hottness that is the problem, it’s that they just aren’t talented!” And that is why I love him so much! Seriously though, I can think of people way hotter than J.Alba, M.Fox, and J.Beil, who can actually act! Anne Hataway, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johanson, Drew Barrymore, etc. Hottness isn’t the issue. For example, Charlize Theron (sp?) is smoking hot, but she was a total hag in Monster. Hilary Swank is beautiful, but she completely transformed herself for Boys Don’t Cry. Wah Wah Wah, how about getting some acting lessons you little whiney babies.
It’s not her looks it’s her horrid personality she doesn’t come off happy or u rarely se her with a smile and unlike the other atresses mentioned they have personalities and are likeable she’s not plain and simple, and what director wants to hire her if she doesn’t have a following of fans that would bring in viewers to see the movie all the other actesses have fans which =money!

Its not that their ‘hotness’ is making them lose work.
It is the fact that they let their entry into the spotlight wasn’t based off of good performances, but rather who they were dating and the eye-candy roles they do take.

Uhm, yeah she’s less hot than Scarlet or Natalie portman. She just isn’t as good…I think actresses say “oh I’m too hot” too feel better about themselves for just being a pretty face with less talent than others. And uh, hello Angelina Jolie? Pretty much consider, universally, the HOTTEST chick alive (even straight girls want her) gets tons of deep parts and picks what she wants. Surely Biel doesn’t think she’s hotter than Jolie?
