Jessica Simpson Gained Weight in a “Fattening Hut”?

As you know, Jessica Simpson is working on a new reality show called The Price of Beauty – she went to Uganda, then came back and her father says that she is looking heavier (is she? I don’t see it) because they had to live in a “fattening hut”. Here’s the news from Us Weekly:
As she travels around the world filming her upcoming reality show The Price of Beauty, Jessica Simpson – who underwent criticism for her weight earlier this year – is learning that “beauty starts within,” her father Joe tells Usmagazine.com.
“She’s always scrutinized by the world and [it's great] to watch her go to other countries and see women talk about what is beautiful there,” he told Us Friday at a gala in Beverly Hills for the international charity Operation Smile. “We were just in Uganda, and a beauty ambassador [there] knew Jessica’s total story about her weight and blah, blah, blah. [She said] to Jessica that it’s about who you are inside, which is the message of our show.”
Asked if he has given his daughter, 29, any advice on how to handle the weight issue, Joe told Us, “I don’t have to tell her anything anymore. She’s wise.”
What can viewers expect?
Jessica “becomes a Geisha in Japan,” Joe told Us. “In Uganda, we sat in a fattening hut because, in Uganda … fat is beautiful. So the bigger you are, the more beautiful you are. She was with a girl who had been in a hut preparing for her wedding for two months and 25 days on a 5,000 calorie-a-day diet.”

Her dad is just about the most manipulative, greedy man I’ve ever seen. Since her weight issues went public in January, he’s been looking for a “bidder” to sell Jessica’s story to.
5000 calorie a day diet for 25 day? What father would tell his daughter to do that? There is no way that’s healthy. And she’s going to come back to Hollywood and people will call her fat and she’ll be hurt, if she can’t lose that weight once she gains it.
The sooner the Simpsons women cut this greedy man out of their lives, the better for them.
It is sad to see that Jessica’s low self esteem solution with weight is to find a culture that agrees with putting more on (what are the health issues that come along with that?). So what happens when she comes back to the US and has perfected another cultures belief of beauty, the media are going to be comparing her to what is the norm of western society. She really needs to stop worrying about what people want her to look like, do some soul searching and just figure out what makes HER happy, healthy and comfortable as a woman.
WTF? How is experiencing another culture equal to a “low self-esteem solution”?
She’s doing a television series in which she visited several countries and was introduced to several other cultures in which their beauty ideals were different.
She visited Uganda where, apparently, fat is good a thing there. How the hell did you take that as her looking for self esteem?
I wonder what her trip to Japan meant then?
I’m not understanding that connection either…
Did anybody even read this article?
Jessica is not on a 5,000 calorie diet for 25 days. The girl who lived in the hut Jessica VISITED was on a 5,000 calorie diet for 25 days. Not Jessica. She might have eaten the food for a day or two, but there’s certainly no way she’s living in a hut in Uganda on 5,000 calories for almost a month.
Juliette, sorry you’re right, I misread the article. I still don’t approve of her dad marketing on her public weight issues though.
Amie, I think that’s what the show is really about…her visiting a bunch of women across the world and filming it. But they’re advertising it in a “Jessica learns to be comfortable with herself!” kind of manner, which associates self-esteem to it. She may not be looking to raise her self-esteem in reality, but on the show I’m sure it will be played off in that way.
She looks thinner to me.
Either way, big or little, Jessica is still beautiful. I don’t get how she always manages to come across so optimistic and positive when she’s always getting trashed by…everyone.
I would have a delivered a big “fukc you” to the world by now, if I were her.
Even at a heavier weight, she still looks better than most people…
i so agree with you.
NO matter what, she always comes through, trying to smile to the world.
She tries to remain positive…in circunatances that I’m not sure i could always be as glass-half-full as she is.
Good for her
Is a fattening hut the same thing as a Pizza Hut? It sounds like it.
Either way, I don’t think she looks bad. I love her body. If she got some decent clothes she could look amazing.
shes a pretty girl.. slightly bigger.. not Hollywood standards.. cant wait til being an emaciated 0 goes away… I like size 4-6. I think it looks the best/healthiest.
I think her weight is fine and that she has one of the best curviest figures of anyone…plus she’s pretty short so she is always going to appear heavier on camera. However, every single time she wears something short waisted on top/high waisted on bottom, she looks 5-15 lbs heavier (I can think of the mom jeans and 2 leopard belt outfit, and one from a long time ago where she was wearing a white t with high-waisted pants).
She is not fat, but she’s doesn’t look a super model too. And her look is out of fashion, she looks like she’s 40. She can do better
She does not know how to dress for her figure, kinda like Mariah Carey.
She doesn’t look fat at all but i think that Jumpsuit makes her look way heavier than normal, not the best choice
