Jessica Simpson’s New Reality Show Will Be Focused on Beauty

Or, more precisely, on what people from various cultures consider beautiful and on what women are willing to do in order to look beautiful. US Weekly reports:
Try this on for size!
The new issue of Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson — who endured much body bullying in January for performing in a pair of unflattering high-waisted jeans — recently visited some TV networks to pitch a reality series about society’s scrutiny of women’s bodies.
The premise of the program, titled The Price of Beauty: “She and a friend set off on a road trip around the world in search of what people find beautiful and why,” says a source. (In a recent Vanity Fair cover story, Simpson talked about criticism of her figure: “It comes with what I do, and I know that every day the media’s going to challenge me.”)
The insider continues that the onetime Newlyweds star, 28, will be hands-on with the show — and will even try some of the “shocking things that women do to make themselves beautiful. Picture Fear Factor.” The singer’s rep tells Us, “Jessica is indeed working on a new show, but network details have not been finalized at this time.”

I think the idea is extremely interesting. Can’t wait to watch it!
Sorry Papa Joe, but NO. Most of us don’t want to watch someone as vain and looks-absorbed as Jessica try to lecture us on the “price of beauty.”
She is just trying to stay relevant, and capitalize on her looks, or now-fading looks, again.
nice Idea ! But Oprah did already this trip and it was a funny Interview we’ve seen how much the beauty is not what you really think … like let’s see in the five countries of North africa
1// Kingdom Of morocco ( where I live ) : women should be curvy with dark black hair and Golden skin and PETITE yes women taller than 5′5 are so not attractive (acording to men) they are so natural no make up just the sunblock cus is way sunny here all the year at least in casa blanca.
2// Algeria : women should have a white skin ( it’s north Africa so women aren’t black cus ther arabic/hebrew) and very fit they are so strong and TALL and Nervous .
3// Tunisia : women should be SKINNY they look like french women and they don’t like the beach Got it ?! anything to stay white or whiter
4// Libia : women wear Glod all the time I mean really all the time and not light or fake gold No I am talking real and they are curvy with a pale skin and very lazy it’s ok I can call them lazy I am from north africa :d
5// Mauritania : Oh Mauritania ! well if you’re a big Fan of Oprah you might know that in mauritania you shoul not look curvy NONONO ! you should be FAAAT and they wear sari like indian women and tatoos (of henné)
ps : what all those country have in common ( besides the arabic blood and the Islam as a realigion ) well Plastic surgery is way forbidden cus we believe that it’s just a Medical solution like a burning skin or in case you have breast cancer … and women still virgin till the wedding day they believe that they’ll look pretier lol
That was really interesting! Thanks for sharing, Salma’ben!
u’re welcome Elena !
really interesting! I remember watching that episode of Oprah as well, and remember her mentioning that in mauritania they like their women fat and divorced! there truly are a multitude of different beauty ideals!
I enjoyed it as well… : ) Jessica Simpson needs to not.
I like the idea of the show. That stuff fascinates me. I hope it works out!
Oh God help us…anything with his half wit is a waste of time.
wtf?
stick to striptism jessica
Beauty is seriously a relative term! My experience totally proves it:
At 5′6” and 105 lbs (measurements 34-24-34) I wasa considered fat in Eastern Europe, my own friends, mom and dad were telling me that I am (yes, many girls were even skinnier). I kinda looked like Jessica Alba pre baby and I was underweight.
At 5′7” and 118 lbs (35-24-35) many guys & boyfriends were telling me I was fat – I was still in Eastern Europe. I honestly looked like Bar Refaeli in a bikini.
Then, thanks to all that, eating disorder happened.
At 5′7” and 150 lbs (39-27-39) I was considered a beauty / hottie in America (and I could not believe it). Men would always compliment my figure, it was amazing.
At 5′7” and 150 lbs, I was “around 65 lbs overweight”, according to some French guys.
At 5′7” and 132 lbs, I was “too skinny” in India.
That’s my experience, no joke, and I’ve suffered a lot.
Wat, that’s completely insane!
What part of eastern europe were you in?
I was in Ukraine and Moldova. Most girls are tall and skinny there and for whatever reason (I’ve spent countless years trying to figure it out)
they are extremely harsh when it comes to body image – or at least, my circle of family and friends were. And yes, it’s insane, but it took me years to realize that they were wrong.
My own dad use to tell me when my BMI was 16.9 (and I was 17) that I had a belly and I should do something about it – my belly was so big that I remember not being able to llie down face down cause my hip bones hurt.
I’ve been called everyhing from “plus size” to “bonus woman” when I was around 118 and 5′7”. I had many clothes from US and they were a size 2/4.
At 132 lbs and 10 years later, my mom is still asking (almost begging me) to lose weight… to the point that I’ve almost destroyed my relationship with her.
I find that so sad, it’s appaulling the way you were treated by family. Must have very distressing and confusing for you.
I’ve only been to a couple of parts of eastern europe (kosovo and albania) but the women there were all pretty average size.
Oh my God, the thing about Eastern Europe is so true! I’m living here too (a country you’ve probably never heard of
and I totally understand, I’m dealing with the same thing, except I’m more annoyed by the things I see on TV / magazines, it’s pure INSANITY.
We have one popular TV show where many girls participate (in order to get a guy, whatever) and they measure them at the beginning of the show. The ones that “dare” to have a 24 inch waist (61 cm) are advised to lose weight / or to get liposuction – this thing is on TV!! Measurements like 32-23-33 are considered ideal – but not just that, anything above is harshly criticised and in need of urgent repair.
I wanna shoot myself for even watching the show and making them rating.
Are you from Romania?
That’s actually really disturbing.
Beauty lies with the culture:
1. In Europe:
Girls should be tall, almost breast-less, flat butt, blond hair, blue eyes, burnt skin, the thinner and darker, the better. Their faces should look gaunt like heroin addicts. Look at Kate Moss.
2. In Africa:
Girls should be obese with lots of fat reserves to carry water over 20km a day and to withstand famine. Being extreme fat also means you don’t have HIV or AIDS cause they think people with HIV and AIDS are suppose to be thin.
3. In India:
Girls should be FLUFFY and not work out to get muscles (although this is changing). Showing a nice round belly sticking out from your sari is erotic. Skin must be white and eyes must NOT be brown/black if you want to make it as an actress or model.
4. In Japan:
White skin, must be short and look like you came out from Manga comic – large eyes and pixie faced.
5. In the USA:
Girls must be well-fed, have mega huge breasts and huge butt like a siliconed porn star (the bigger the better).
A good example would be Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce (whom Europeans find completely disgusting and obese). Most American men themselves are fat, so they need fat girls that won’t crush under them. Heidi Klum is considered “extremely fat” in Germany and France ever since her reality model show; but she is considered a “supermodel and curvy” in the US.
You can’t please everyone in this world but you can please yourself.
I am sorry But you’re soooooo WRONG ! at least about Africa AND India and Europe I am not American so I can’t know what do they like but I ‘ve been to Europe they were so in love with my arabian brown eyes (desert eyes) and my Persian curves and when I was in Duba I met some Indian girls they had abs just like Jess alba and Africa well exept Mauritania girls are just skinny or curvy so the next time please make sure of your informations .
A) Dubai is not India, nor Africa. Dubai is Middle-east with high numbers of Indian constructions workers and foreign labor. It is a very advanced country, very westernized, so naturally the girls there try to achieve that.
B) When I talk about India, I am talking about the country in general. If you thin and malnourished – means you are a poor Indian/Bangladesh farmer and you have nothing to eat. Do the Indian Bollywood actresses look very thin? No.
C) Men like curves, all kinds of curves; but it doesn’t mean other people like modeling agencies and talent scouts like curvy girls. If you are short belly dancer with curves doesn’t mean you are pretty; it just means you are there to entertain the men.
sorry again ! you’reso wrong :d I am talking basing on my experiences and Dubai is not very westernized so no one is trying there to look like WESTERN woman
b/ if you wanna talk about in general not all american girls look like Angelina and Jessica Alba
c/ actually real belly dancer are supposed to be tall and skinny like turkish bellydancers so again don’t talk just cus you want to talk TALK FROM EXPERIENCES AND CULTUR wich I doubt you already have .
DUBAI iS NOT WESTERNISED??? You must be joking! Honestly, I’ve been working as a flight attendant all these years flying in and out of Dubai and around the world – there are more Chanel and DIor shops along Dubai Marina than in Kansas!!! Girls run around the beach with bikinis and the women there slap on more makeup and go for more Plastic surgery than ever!
Either your geography is seriously down to ruins or you must have been stuck in Iran and you thought it was Dubai.
Not All american girls look like Jessica ALba; which is why they are not as famous as Jessica Alba.
There is a difference between being a SEX Symbol for guys and a model. If you are Marilyn Monroe- guys find you hot; but no Model agency or director will hire you – they will tell you to go and lose weight first and that you will look too chunky for the cameras. Welcome to the real world!
So wrong about Europe. I live in Europe and a lot of people find Beyonce very attractive and see her as a great role model (in terms of her weight and physical appearance) to women.
Kate Moss is also a bad example to go by, the fascination with her looks died out in Britain along with her career.
The comment about Heidi Klum being fat came from one fading photographer who wanted to ride on her publicity to boost his own career, I know very few French people who think she is fat and the French are renowned for being skinny.
I also disagree at least with that what you said about Europe. This might be true in a fashion industry, but really not in “real life”.
Im in Europe and i think what u described it VERY accurate in real life and in fashion. Although brunettes with the physical attributes of what u described above are also deemed v.attractive.
But yes as far as europe goes thin is definitely in. Strange with obesity levels rising i think being thin is more like “wow how did u do that/stay that way” its kind of like a gift that envied by others.
Exactly. Sure, there are lots of obese and fat people in Germany, but I’m not talking about the normal people – I’m talking about the models, actresses and celebrities. The skinnier you are, the better you do. And most importantly – they have to be extremely natural – no fake boobs, no fake butt, no fake nose like what you see on Kim K. and Jessica simpson. If you want to look like silicone stuffed up Barbie, people will call you “ugly”. Even the models, actresses and newscasters here wear very little makeup and they are usually blond and tanned.
I am in Europe as well and although thin is in…I have seen lots of overweight people here in Germany. France not too much..most Woman are thin and of course rude..LOL That’s why I love the Good Ol USA…you get a variety of diffrent sizes and shapes…not just pencil’s or ruler shapes. LOL
I THINK THIS SHOW IS A GREAT IDEA,,, i think so much pressue is put on women to look a certain way…..its alot about what makes u happy n being heathy…and ANYTIME SO0MEONE TELLS UI ANYTHING ABOUT UR WEIGHT U TELL THEM TO SUCK IT AND PUT THEM IN THEIR PLACE…….DONT EVER LET PEOPLE TELL U HOW U SHOULD LOOK……
I agree. I’m just thinking how bad it is now, and then start to think about when I have children then its prob. going to be a million times worse. Its scary and to think that the media and other people put into young girls and boys’shead that someone like Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and so on are fat, that just makes my head spin. Its so scary and I wish that its going to turn around and that people start focusing on being healthy rather than starving themselves.
Sigh. Why can’t we just be
Ourselves ?
