i went to her concert in auckland, new zealand just 2 days ago, she does not look as big as she does in these pictures. nowayy she looked that big. she is 5’2 so i’d say she is about 62-63kg (136-137lbs) … she has quite atheletic legs and a small waist when she wears clothes (speaking from the time i saw her at the concert)

Agreed. I hate how everyone immediately assumes that if you comment on other people’s weight, it’s out of insecurity because you are a fat and ugly cow. Just because around 60% of Americans (not sure the exact figure) are overweight doesn’t mean absolutely everyone is. She isn’t a whale, but she doesn’t look extremely healthy.

Breathe, girl! I feel like you’re about to have a heart attack. No reason to take it so personally…so what if Lily Allen doesn’t fit everyone’s definition of “healthy?”
None of us have the facts about her health, it’s all based on opinion. I think most people can agree her health is fine size-wise, but because it’s based on opinions, there will always be a few who will disagree. No reason to flip out!
The only definition of HEALTHY that matters is a DOCTOR’s not every know-it-all on the internet.
And going by the accepted medical guidelines, her body is FINE. In fact, her body is VERY FINE, as she is carrying most of her weight in her legs, where there is a special kind of fat tissue which PROTECTS against heart disease.
So she is HEALTHIER then a woman identical to her, but with skinnier legs.
Man, everyone’s a freaking expert on health now, and before you tell me I’m falling under the same category, I actually study obesity related problems at my job, as a biochemist, and I know WTF I’m talking about.
Actually it’s not even about health. There are people here with very strong views about how skinny a woman is suppose to be. And to rationalise that into something sane, they coat it in fancy terms like – oh it’s about HEALTH. Ya right. This girl is beyond fine from a health pov, why don’t y’all just admit you think she looks fat and you would that regardless, unless she was a size 2 or less, and stop sugar coating it.
Thanks for that. I think it’s fine to say things like “i’m not a fan of her body” or “i like slimmer legs, she’s too muscular for my taste”, but it’s absurd to always try & justify taste with health related reasons or such. (Though i’m not saying the health-card is always misused, i just think the speculation works better when there’s a quote or something, like when you discuss on the healthiness of a diet)

When it’s a malicious comment it usually does show a lack of self-esteem. There’s stating fact and then there’s being cruel.
Just because someone is of healthy weight does not mean they don’t have insecurities! I think there are a lot of women who are unhappy with their figures and tend to attack women who are larger than them as it makes them feel better about their own bodies – but it the end it just re-inforces the idea that not being tiny and toned is disgusting.
Oh common give her a brake it was a joke, and no we all don’t look like Jessica or who ever but that doesn’t mean we can’t hang out here and make some semi rude comments, it’s fun you should try it instead of acting all grown up/cry of a lonely voice, just chill out, it’s nothing to personal
And some of us do take pride in our bodies and the work it takes to maintain the, and some of them do have bodies similar to some celebrities. Everything that you put your mind to is attainable. Sure, the whale comment was rude, but Lily Allen does look like your average American woman. And mathematically speaking, your average American woman is not healthy at all.
Oh and far as Lily goes she you can’t say she isn’t healthy(as someone commented) just because she is little soft and has a little tummy, she is alright
She’s not as healthy as she could be, that’s all I’m saying. When you’re a celebrity you have the resources (money for healthier foods, gym memberships, personal trainers, etc.) where keeping a healthier weight isn’t an issue, or shouldn’t be. At a certain point it’s lack of effort.

The Average American woman is size 12-14. Lily is maybe a 6 on top, 8 bottom. In what way is that average?

Wow. Sounds like you are under the impression that there is a certain “mold” we are all supposed to fit. I hate to break the news to you, but everyBODY is different. And when I say body, I mean that exactly. We are not all meant to be stick thin or crazy muscular. Perhaps Lilly is actually listening to her body and giving it what it wants- She may even work out 3-4 days a week, who knows?

Actually, almost every picture of Lily Allen is of her smoking and occasionally ones of her drinking a lot also. She smokes backstage behind her concerts and recently had to cancel a couple shows because of bronchitis. She leads a life similar to Kate Moss.
So YES she is unhealthy.
Her black lungs probably don’t allow her to do much exercising which is why she looks like that.

How is it fun to make semi rude and out right insulting comments concerning a person’s size/weight/body shape, especially if that person is one that is seen to have a struggle with their weight? You know, it may be “nothing personal” to you or anyone else that’s commenting, but what about Lilly, and anyone that may share her body shape and struggles? I’m not saying we can’t comment on her body, by all means we all have our opinions and I know I’ve left a couple of opinions on here when I don’t like the way someone looks, but do we really need to be rude and insulting about it?

Threads like this is why people get plastic surgery….unless you are her doctor …you really do not know anything about her healthy…you can infer …but sometimes things are not as they seem and contray to many people thoughts some fat is healthy.Her seems to be in the hips, legs, and but which is healthy some women with exercise and healthy diet will have cellulite…remeber prior to tv and women’s rights …women did not run around all the time with their clothes off …so most people did not even realize cellulite is as commom as it truly is…also just because you think you may have a similar body type as an celebrity….you do not have the same genetics, lifestyle, stress, there are several factors which contribute to healthy…so unless you are a doctor then just stick to the plain aesthetics….

i think she looks pretty good from the front, she reminds me of the ideal renaissance woman’s body, fleshy with small breasts, a tummy, and large hips often depicted in art.
i think her rump could stand some lunges… but light can make cellulite worse so it may not be as bad as it looks. though dimpling is near impossible to get rid of.. ugh! as i’m sure many of us unfortunately know.

I have to say she actually inspires me to look at my body as beautiful….. she has a liittle belly, curvy hips, cellulite, hips and thighs…. but I think the whole package looks very womenly and beautiful… by no means perfect but still beautiful.
And it made me realise that if someone who is a little heavier and a little shorter than me, who has similar flaws to me… if she can look beautiful then my body may not be as bad as I thought.

She can’t possibly be healthy, since she’s a smoker and a drinker. I did not said ANYTHING at all about her health… I think we can’t tell if a person is healthy or not just by looking at them. But I think she would look prettier if she lose a bit.

its funny that everyone is saying she must be unhealthy because she is a smoker, but what you all are forgetting is that 90% of hollywood are smokers!! Just because you don’t always see them smoking in candid photos doesn’t mean they don’t do it. I mean come on, even Natalie Portman is a smoker. For some reason if someone is very skinny they are immediately seen as “healthier”. Personally I think she looks good! I feel like her size is very similar to my own and I run 25 – 30 miles a week (and not slowly either). I mean sure I don’t lift weights, but I think I am in better shape than most of my friends. So, just looking at somebody’s overall size doesn’t really reveal anything about their health!
Even if the 90% statistic WAS true, it doesn’t matter, because smoking is not healthy for anyone. Even if everyone in the world smoked, it’s still not healthy.
As for very skinny women immediately being seen as healthier, all I have to say is: yeah right. Just look at the comments on every skinny woman posted on this site…they are NOT automatically percieved as being healthier. In fact, they are automatically percieved as being anorexic, and then people defend them by saying they could possibly be naturally skinny.
I do think Lily Allen is healthy in terms of size though.
it may be true that people criticize thin celebrities for being “anorexic”, but I bet if you polled people on this site you would find that most would consider even the underweight celebrities to be healthier than even the slightly overweight celebrities.
As for the smoking, all I was trying to illustrate is that we have different standards of “health” depending on one’s body size, which is completely hypocritical.
I guess the point is we throw the term “healthy” around without giving much thought to what it actually means. In reality, we don’t really know whether Lily Allen is healthy or not (or Jessica Alba, or the girl from Precious, etc etc).
Agreed, Mizzy! I’m a smoker too, and I’m not averse to a few drinks, but I’m very healthy. Healthier, in fact, even as a smoker, than my non-smoking friends. I go to the gym, I run, I eat well, I’m on the pill so need my blood oxygen levels checking every few months because of smoking, those levels are the same as a non-smoker.
I think Lily looks amazing here, I think she’s got a great figure, mine’s not so far off that (give or take a few more cup sizes) and seriously, I CANNOT stress it enough, if you are cursed with heavier legs, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that you can do. I’ve tried everything. Most exercises just make them bigger, because heavier legs are more prone to developing bulky muscle. Literally the only way for girls shaped like Lily, and myself, to have slim legs, is to actually starve. Is anyone going to tell me that’s healthy? I would assume not, from reading other comments on this post, as well as on others. As I keep reiterating, I think Lily looks fab here, like versus says, she has a stunning waist to hip ratio, and as for the cellulite, well, that’s there for the long run, as most women, however skinny they are, know!
As ever, I’d love to see what the people who criticise the slightly ‘heavier’ (not saying that Lily is heavy, at all) celebrities on this site look like themselves. Are they all lucky enough to be naturally slim and cellulite free? Or are they just projecting their own insecurities? I know I do the latter…

It’s just a precaution I think, Ana, I didn’t know anything about it until my friend said that she had hers checked because she was a smoker, I just mentioned it to my nurse when I went to get a repeat prescription of the pill a year or so ago and she did it
I think it’s not a big thing to be worried about, just one of those things that some people check and some people don’t.

i didnt know we had so many MD’s in here! i think its absolutely ridiculous to say someone is unhealthy from looking at 1 picture of them. Yes she gained a couple pounds but thats most likely from the holidays and im pretty sure she’ll lose it in the upcoming months. even if she doesnt so what. she isnt grossly underweight or overweight so to say shes unhealthy from a picture is ludicrous.
When I look at her, I don’t see a fat girl. She has curves, a belly, juicy thighs, and that’s about it. No rolls, skin not sagging. She’s not everyone’s cup of tea of course, and that’s fine. It doesn’t mean that everyone who criticizes her looks like the creature from the black lagoon behind the computer screen. On the flip side, it doesn’t mean that everyone who thinks her body is fine is her shape, bigger, fat, or whatever. I did expect the back pic of her to look as impressive as the front pics though. It’s not only unhealthy people who get cellulite, but definitely we’ve learned medically by now that stress and a poor diet is a stimulant of cellulite. Meh, eat healthy, exercise, massage your cel, and whatever’s left over, if anything, just accept it.

I’ve found that being a former gymnast (and no longer working out as intensely to keep every inch of fat at bay) that a bit of fat is building over the muscle I have in my legs. And, yes, perhaps she’s got a little more cellulite than is desirable in the back, but lots of times cellulite has to do with genetics. I have a friend size 00 that’s got some cellulite. I think if you look at Allen’s lower thighs and compare them to the characteristic (rather thick) lower thighs of other pair shapes, her legs actually look quite toned.
I am however perplexed at the bit of the belly she’s developing. Pear’s tend not to gain there, right?
They can gain there. That bit is lower than the belly button women naturally keep a fat pad there for protection of the uterus. It also should be noted some women always have the that look due a tilted uterus or ovaries. My mother is a strong pear shape and always had a bit of belly so it’s not abnormal.
I agree with Casey. Lily Allen looks perfectly fine to me and I prefer her at this weight rather than when she lost weight a couple of years ago and was thin. She A Smoker?! So what I’m sure some people who commented on this post are! I’m not condoning it but it is what it is she’s not striving to be a role model. When your a celebrity it’s do as i say (which would be the parents of the child who looks up to the celebrity) not as I do (celebrity). Saying that Lily is not healthy only because she has a slight tummy and womanly hips and thighs is not sensible, IMO. Since when do we consider a person as healthy or not only relying on his/her weight? If Lily lost a few pounds would it automatically make her healthier? She’s not overweight; nowhere near that. Yes, she’s not stich thin and that’s totally fine. Her body is not typically skinny as we are used to see in the show business. Anyway, she’s not a model, she’s a singer, so it’s her choice to be a little bit heavier than someone expects her to be. In fact, she deserves applauses for being who she is, and not being a conformist who tries to achieve certain standards.
As for smoking, that’s another case which has nothing to do with her weight. It’s not healthy, we all know this. But there are so many celebs out there who smoke a lot too and somehow they’re not bashed for this that much. I can understand them in a way… They lead stressful lives, although we only see the glam of their presence in public. There’s no need to be hard on her.

Belly fat is dangerous, unhealthy fat (unlike fat around the hips and thighs – not as dangerous to one’s health).
She seems to have a big belly for someone so young.
All excess fat is dangerous (above a certain body fat percentage). Belly fat is just more dangerous. However, Lily doesn’t seem to have that much body fat…she seems to be in the normal range.

My body is 90% like hers (without the cellulite) and I feel fat. I do martial arts and i have to admit that I count calories etc. but I still stay that way so I accept the fact that I’m fat.

This girl has such a healthy figure, which is maintainable. I bet she enjoys life, and doesn’t worry about her weight at all. She has a lovely womanly body (no not fat, none in the slightest) I am a man and I defy you to find someone who prefers the likes of Victoria Beckham’s body to Lily’s.

2) She is a healthy weight; not every one is genetically designed to be super skinny. Some people have a wider bone structure, and therefore store a little more fat.
3) What is wrong with small boobs? Who says that small boobs are ugly and unsexy? Western society and media? The same with chunkier legs – who said that the only attractive legs were super long and slim? The Rubens used to find the pear shaped, small bust, small waist, full hips/legs body the sexiest… It just proves how much our social conditioning affects our perception of beauty. It’s just a shame for Lily that she doesn’t fit in with today’s body trends, that men and women have been accustomed to and therefore grown to like in the Western world.
