Oprah Is 200 Pounds at 5’6”

Oprah recently opened the old and overly discussed subject again: her weight. Here’s what she had to say:

“I’m embarrassed … I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, ‘How did I let this happen again?’ ”

For starters, the fact that her thyroid was out-of-balance gave her “a fear of working out,” she says. “I was so frustrated I started eating whatever I wanted – and that’s never good.”

Having slimmed down to 160 in 2006, she admits, “Yes, you’re adding correctly. That means the dreaded 2-0-0…”

Choosing a gown for the Barack Obama inauguration coming up in January, however, made Winfrey realize her self-image was no longer jibed with the person standing on the scales – though the real low point occurred last April.

“I felt like a fat cow,” Winfrey writes of the occasion when she sought to skip out on a Las Vegas show taping with Cher and Tina Turner. “I wanted to disappear.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Winfrey’s weight and height rank her as obese, with a body mass index of 31.8 – putting her at “at higher risk for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol,” says the CDC.

Winfrey intends to address the issue on The Oprah Winfrey Show, which will kick off “Best Life Week” Jan. 5.

Let’s hear your thoughts!

i have an underactive thyroid.. it sucks.
    i love oprah (^_^) she’s lovely.
i don’t really care what weight she is, she’s always beautiful in my opinion.

even oprah, with billions of dollars in the bank and countless episodes featuring the latest diets and “eat this not that” advice cant stay slim
if you don’t have the genes, sometimes its harder to be slim than it looks.

that first picture is photoshopped like crazy though.. she does no look 160 pounds!!!

anyway, Oprah is fabulous. She’s a multi billionaire, so why not have your cake an eat it too?? I’m all about being healthy, but when a successful woman like Oprah, who arguably is the most succesful self-made woman on earth, admits to thinking she’s a “fat cow” and a “failure” that really means something about how women think in this country. A shame really.

as long as shes not anorexic. “sarcasm”
ugh, i hate weight. 200 pounds is overweight, no doubt about it. but yet we all tell ourselves to diet and exercise which leads to eating disorders. WHAT ARE WE WOMEN SUPPOSED TO DO?! i hate hollywood and this “perfect woman” society. as for oprah, she looks great. strong black curvy woman. a true inspiration for any woman, super curvy or not. she should really stop talking about dieting and how “fat” she is.

    ITA with ur post!

oprah is heavy and should become more fit to be healthy. the weight loss will come naturally.
honestly, if she was fine with her shape, it wouldnt be too bad (shes not lifethreatening obese), but her moaning about it all over and calling herself a fat cow means, she should do something.

I really don’t understand…I love Oprah, but really, her cover says it all. How did she let this happen again? If I had $ to burn, I’d have ppl telling me, “NO!” and dragging me away from the fridge and outside for a jog. I want a long, healthy life for me and my family, I wish she would get realistic, this yo-yoing will do her harm in the end.

The woman needs to stop thinking of her weight, eating and exercising in terms of looks, and focus on her health when it comes to her weight, eating and exercising. She says she has thyroid problems. OK, from what I understand that affects emotions and mentality too, right? She needs to get people to help her understand that, and to help her with that aspect of the thyroid problems, not just the weight aspect.

Wow I feel bad for her…..im sure she’ll lose it again anyways. Why doesnt she get gastric bypass surgery?

some people just have a harder time than others losing weight and keeping it off, for both physical and psychological reasons. but kudos to her for trying and hey, let’s face it, whatever body she has or whatever weight she’s at, oprah is an amazing human being who has done a lot of selfless things for other people and we can all support that!

I’m 5’6 and 200lbs. I dress for my shape and work on feeling good about my size everyday. I keep telling myself when the time is right to deal with it, lose the extra 70lbs, I will just do it. Im currently going through a divorce and am a single parent of a 1 1/2 year old. I have alot on my plate and accepting and loving myself just the way I am is important for me right now. The other benefit of being fat is men never look at me which is good because I’m still healing and am not ready for another relationship.
