Shakira Follows the Leotard Trend
I love Shakira and I love the fact that she has a distinctive image, with loads of personality and “flavor” – plus, her image is clearly different from all the other female singers.
Well, too bad that she just joined the “Leotard + Fishnets” trend, the trend that started with Madonna, then was passed to Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna and so on (the list is reaaaally long). Add a cage and Beyonce’s shoes in the mix, and it’s done: Shakira’s She Wolf single cover.

I think she looks super hot, and even though it is a totally overdone trend that I’m not really fond of, she completely makes it her own with personality and fire.
I bet it was the music executives saying “alright, I see you in fishnets, nude, in a cage like a hot animal ready to escape!” and because she hasn’t had ‘new’ stuff in awhile she said yes for marketing purposes

Not a fan of the leotard trend. But that’s irrelevant; she looks amazing. I am so pleased that she is comfortable with her body, and hasn’t succumbed to breast enhancement, or extreme dieting.

I hate album covers they are soo airbrushed everyone looks the same. I remember waiting in line at a ticket master to buy concert tickets and looking at 3 blonde pop stars in a row (can’t remember which ones) and they all looked identical. Any facial features which made them distinct were airbrushed away. Her face sort of looks like Briteny Spears here and she looks nothing like her in real life. It’s sad.

She just looks like the prisoner of some misogynist. Maybe I just have a problem about how women are portrayed in general. But they have taken a concept that could have been used to show power, will and strength, and made it in into something purely sexual.
I agree with you. I would love to see someone not just pretending they’re being ‘wild’ (when they are really just looking like a slave who has been a little too naughty) but actually living it, without any fear of scaring anyone off or appearing all irritating. I think she gets it all wrong, as a she wolf she should be ferocious just like you said. Damn I wish I was a musician! It can be so satisfying to feel free of fitting into that female stereotype that society believes is sexy.
I personally think she looks ordinary on that cover, like every other equally perfect and boring-looking female popstar. Can’t even recognize her face.

This doesn’t really look like her face thanks to airbrushing but atleast they haven’t given her bigger boobs and have shown she has a curvy bum. I like her new hair alot, she looks more sultry with it, although I loved her wild curly hair aswell.

I completely agree. When Whenever, wherever came out i was spellbound by her beautiful face and body. Very unique and interesting lady who decided to be yet another blonde barbie hollywood girl. Or simply, boring. b/c all this cover says is boring…

I’ve always thought she had a great body, slim with curves but still at a healthy weight. Not crazy about her style or her overall looks but I love working out to her music and watching her shake! She sure can move!!
It would be great if Versus could put Shakira and Beyonce side by side in a new post…I think they’d make a great match!

Very disappointed , bought album , and then sold it on Ebay total commercial rubbish , i liked all albums from majika / pelagro onwards but this , well its main stream spin Doctored trash very very dissapointed .
Even more disappointed shakira went with it , only good track is gypsy , and not sanitized one on album that’s rubbish , but one on Utube with ethnic artists and Shakira on harmonica , its only track i put on Ipod , and then it was a recode from Utube as album version rubbish , very sad day , I really like her past work but this album well I Ebayed it that says it all , and now the album on-line from £4.99 , so that’s a big price drop and says it all really .
