Christina Hendricks: “I Didn’t Realize My Body Was So Different”

Christina Hendricks: I Didnt Realize My Body Was So Different | christina hendricks

New York Magazine has an interesting piece on curvy/booby girl Christina Hendricks (plus a couple of pictures of Christina in lingerie) – here’s a (big) part of it:

Christina Hendricks thinks all the talk about her body is a little embarrassing. It’s not as if she has an extra limb, after all. She just has an especially attractive version of the same thing women have had forever—curves—but she happens to have them in a profession where women haven’t for quite some time.

“It kind of hurt my feelings at first,” she says. “Anytime someone talks about your figure constantly, you get nervous, you get really self-conscious. I was working my butt off on the show, and then all anyone was talking about was my body!”

“It might sound silly,” she says, “but I didn’t realize I was so different. I was just oblivious. Sometimes I would go on an audition and someone would say something like, Girl, you’re refreshing! That was it.”

And it’s not Hendricks’s fault that she’s come to everyone’s attention as an actress at a time when bodies are very much an issue—if not the issue—as far as fashion is concerned. There are the various attempts by fashion cities like São Paulo and Milan to police model weight; there are press conferences, BMI restrictions, mandatory turkey sandwiches backstage at every show. But lately there have also been baby steps taken toward the (unfortunately) radical idea that looking good need not involve so much rejection of the naturally occurring female shape. Glamour has begun to mix models of various sizes into its regular editorial shoots. A recent issue of V concerned itself with shape, pointing out that clothes—even fashion clothes—can look good on differently sized people.

Emily Blunt: “Don’t Photoshop Me Thinner!”

Emily Blunt: Dont Photoshop Me Thinner! | photoshop job

I heard you once instructed a photographer not to airbrush you—that can’t be right, can it?
I told him not to make me thinner. I hate when your legs are three times the length they actually are. I heard they could raise your nipples if you have a slightly see-through top, lift your bum—they can do everything. I can understand there are things like shadows they need to fix after a shoot, but it’s unfair to represent an image of yourself if it’s not true. They’re gonna see what you look like on film anyway, so why try to cover all your wobbly bits in a photo?

… says Emily in Los Angeles Times Magazine.

Why she won’t ever pose in a bikini:

“Not enough money in the world, not enough double-sided tape in the world to keep everything in place.” Jen said. “Clothes are great. I feel great,” she laughed.

“If you want to see me in a bathing suit, you can go to season something of Alias and I wore a bathing suit for an episode,” Jen continued. “Go watch that, because that looked good! Now I’m very happy with myself.”

Lily Allen Says She Has Body Dysmorphia

Lily Allen Says She Has Body Dysmorphia | lily allen

The Daily Mails has the scoop:

The singer claimed that when she looks in the mirror she sees ’someone who is considerably more overweight than I am.

‘It’s body dysmorphia. I think I look like Michelle McManus.’

Speaking to Love magazine, she added: ‘The reason the fashion world has embraced me is because I lost a stone-and-a-half last year. They probably wouldn’t have when I was heavier.

‘I’ve been on shoots where it’s been “Lunchtime! OK, Lily, do you want a cigarette?” instead of eating lunch.

‘Don’t make me feel guilty about the way I look.

‘Compare me to Kate Moss and all of those supermodels and, yes, I probably am on the podgy side. But in reality I’m fine.’

Miss Allen attacked fashion photographers and stylists for trying to make her feel bad about her size.

When she was younger she had to wear tiny ’samples’ – early designs released to stylists – on various shoots. ‘You can’t fit into them, and they’re rolling their eyes at you as if it’s your fault.

‘Hold on a second, I’m a pop star, not a model. Don’t make me feel s*** for not being really skinny and having an eating disorder.’

Miss Allen said she had recently gained weight due to steroid injections to treat laryngitis. ‘People say, “Ooh, she’s in love, so she’s put on weight.” No! I’m ill.’

Drew Barrymore Brings the Quote of the Day

Drew Barrymore Brings the Quote of the Day | drew barrymore

“It’s the best time of my life – it’s not traumatic at all. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier. It’s like the older I get, the better I get. Gravity and wrinkles are fine with me. They’re a small price to pay for the new wisdom inside my head and my heart.

“If my breasts fall down to the floor and everything starts to sag and becomes hideous and gross, I won’t worry. I’ll just stop appearing in front of the camera. That’s fine with me because I love producing and directing.”

…says Drew.
