“Plus-Size” Models Walk the Runway at London Fashion Week

February 23, 2010 in Body Type and Clothes, Hot Models, Skinny Versus Curvy Battle by Versus

Plus Size Models Walk the Runway at London Fashion Week | body type clothes

Remember THIS STORY?

The same designer that was abandoned by some of his team for using bigger models last year is back – this time, Mark Fast used a bunch of (some call them “plus-size”, some call them “real-size”) non-skinny models during his show at 2010 London Fashion Week, who walked the runway together with the skinny, typical models.

As his representatives said before, the idea behind this initiative is to show that…

“We wanted women to know they didn’t have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress – curvier women can look even better in them.”

Hmm… I don’t really get their message when looking at these pictures. Facts are, these extra tight and stretchy, knitwear dresses in nude tones aren’t extremely flattering on these size 12 models. Even more, it looks like the dresses are a bit too tight (on the arms, bust) and the underwear / stockings they wear underneath are not the best choices either.

I bet that these size 12 girls could have looked really great in dresses with more structure or in any classic silhouette designs.

What are your thoughts?

Christina Hendricks in a See-Through Blouse Shares Style Thoughts

Christina Hendricks in a See Through Blouse Shares Style Thoughts | body type clothes

Christina Hendricks was spotted at the Badgely Mischka show 3 das ago during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week… and she wore a see-through / lacey black top that revealed her bra. And with this occasion, Christina also shared a few thoughts on style and fashion:

“I’ve learned about tailoring, tailoring, tailoring. I don’t think I ever walk into a shop anymore and think, ‘Oh, I love it, I wish it fit.’ I think, ‘Oh, I love it. Let me go make it fit.’ Jeans I don’t generally have to tailor, but I have to oftentimes with tops because I’m a bit curvy. I’ve learned what’s flattering on me and what works for me.”

And which are Christina’s favorite colors?

“It’s that kind of color that redheads aren’t supposed to wear that I love. That sort of ballet-pink color.”

Christina Hendricks: “I Didn’t Realize My Body Was So Different”

Christina Hendricks: I Didnt Realize My Body Was So Different | christina hendricks

New York Magazine has an interesting piece on curvy/booby girl Christina Hendricks (plus a couple of pictures of Christina in lingerie) – here’s a (big) part of it:

Christina Hendricks thinks all the talk about her body is a little embarrassing. It’s not as if she has an extra limb, after all. She just has an especially attractive version of the same thing women have had forever—curves—but she happens to have them in a profession where women haven’t for quite some time.

“It kind of hurt my feelings at first,” she says. “Anytime someone talks about your figure constantly, you get nervous, you get really self-conscious. I was working my butt off on the show, and then all anyone was talking about was my body!”

“It might sound silly,” she says, “but I didn’t realize I was so different. I was just oblivious. Sometimes I would go on an audition and someone would say something like, Girl, you’re refreshing! That was it.”

And it’s not Hendricks’s fault that she’s come to everyone’s attention as an actress at a time when bodies are very much an issue—if not the issue—as far as fashion is concerned. There are the various attempts by fashion cities like São Paulo and Milan to police model weight; there are press conferences, BMI restrictions, mandatory turkey sandwiches backstage at every show. But lately there have also been baby steps taken toward the (unfortunately) radical idea that looking good need not involve so much rejection of the naturally occurring female shape. Glamour has begun to mix models of various sizes into its regular editorial shoots. A recent issue of V concerned itself with shape, pointing out that clothes—even fashion clothes—can look good on differently sized people.
