Kirstie Alley Lost 50 Lbs Again and Wears a Size 6 or 8

All the details from People:

When Kirstie Alley decided in April that she wanted to slim down, going back on Jenny Craig was a no-brainer.

“It was so easy for me when I did it before,” Alley – who lost a whopping 75 lbs. when she was a spokesperson for Jenny Craig from 2004 to 2007 – tells PEOPLE.

Although the Dancing with the Stars alum only intended to lose 30 lbs. this time around, she ended up dropping 50 lbs. and going from a size 12 to 14 to a size 6 to 8.

“There’s this certain place I hit where I felt really energetic and agile. I was like, I want to keep going with this!” she says.

To avoid her past yo-yo-dieting downfalls, Alley, 63, wanted to take a different approach. “I thought, how am I going to solve the problem of hitting a goal and having enough fun to keep that going?”

So she bought a new set of wheels – for exercise. “I got a yellow townie bike and I ride over to friends’ houses. I bribe people. I’ll say, let’s ride to this restaurant and I’ll pay for dinner,” she tells PEOPLE. “And believe me: If I bike four miles to a restaurant, I don’t wreck it with my order!”

At home, Alley fills up on organic fruits and vegetables and her Jenny Craig meals, enjoying favorites like chicken fettuccine for lunch and chocolate brownies for dessert. Along with portion control, she says having a consultant has really helped with her slim new figure.

“I started looking at myself as an athlete. I was a competitive swimmer for a very long time and I remember that I wouldn’t have won anything or done well in swimming if I didn’t have a coach.”

It’s part of her overall strategy to do what worked well for her in the past to ensure future success. “I want it to be part of my life this time,” she says. “I’m just trying to make it fun.”

Crystal Renn Wants Designers to Change Sample Sizes to an 8 Instead of a 2

March 1, 2013 in Beauty & Body Image, Crystal Renn by Versus

FFN_g_51009204

Crystal Renn, the former plus-size model who wrote a book that documented her weight journey as a model from a size 0 to a size 14 recently opened to the press about body image in the fashion world and suggested the designers to change same sizes from 2 to an 8 – here’s the full story from Radar:

Each of the models present shared compelling personal stories about their struggles with weight and body image in the modeling industry. Amy Lemons said that when her body started changing at 17, her agent recommended eating just one rice cake a day, and if that didn’t work, cutting back to only half of one. Katherine Schuette, who also studied nutrition, stopped eating even though she knew the dangers. “I knew down to the chemistry what was happening to my body when I tried to get to that size [0],” she shared.

It was Crystal Renn, who has publicly shared her struggles with eating disorders in her book Hungry, who spoke most passionately about the subject. After being signed by a model scout who told her to lose ten inches from her waist and advised her to look to Vogue for standards of what she should look like, Renn entered into years of obsessive dieting and exercise to get down to a frightening 95 lbs. “What I found,” Renn said of that time, “is that I felt nothing except hatred for myself.

And the problem isn’t just with model agents; Ashley Mears says the problem lies much more in the editorial side of the industry. Chris Gay agreed, expressing frustration with industry standards set by designers and editors that he deemed ridiculous. “They’re not standards a woman can keep through her life or her career,” May said. “You’re replacing good models with new models because of unrealistic standards…”

Renn’s suggestion, which seems almost painfully obvious in its simplicity, is for designers to change the sample size to a size 8. She argues this could accommodate bodies between sizes 6 and 10, or tailored down to a size 0 if the designer wanted to hire a girl that thin. Renn posited that some designers feel pressured to keep their sample sizes small because that’s what industry leaders are doing–she of course made an exception for close friend Zac Posen.

“There are some people who lead,” Renn said of the designer’s attempts to diversify his runway, “and Zac Posen is one of those people.”

Update on Crystal Renn’s Measurements!

February 7, 2011 in Beauty & Body Image, Celebrity Quotes, Celebrity Weight & Measurements, Crystal Renn, Hot Models by Versus

A few weeks ago, various sources around the Internet starting buzzing on one particular subject: ‘Crystal Renn’s agency lists the ‘plus-size’ model as a size 2′. A size 2 with the corresponding measurements of a standard model! A few days after the initial buzz, Crystal’s agent, Gary Dakin, responded:

“There was an error in the initial printing and it is being rectified. She maintains a 37-38 hip. But if people have truly followed her message, it is about acceptance and beauty at any size”.

Let’s see some of Crystal’s recent statements:

With plus size modeling, the sizes start at an 8 and go all the way up to a 20, and that enrages many people. They say when they see a size 10 girl, that’s plus size? They have to realize that plus size model doesn’t mean plus size woman… But bridging the gap would be a very good thing. We need to have all sizes. This isn’t a them against us fight. It’s about bringing everybody together.

Because of my size currently, I straddle this line between the two worlds–I guess you could say I’m a plus size straight size model. I am four inches smaller than a plus size model and four inches bigger than a straight size model.

At this point, Crystal’s (who still claims to be a size 8US) measurements on various agency cards and fashion model sites are listed as: 34C-28.5-38 / 85-73-97 (cm).

Crystal Renn Talks about Her Weight Loss

October 26, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Crystal Renn, Hot Models by Versus

Former plus-size, current not-really-plus-size model Crystal Renn (who is now a size 8-10) opened up about her recent (major) weight loss. We’ve got the details from Daily Mail:

She shot to fame as one of the world’s most famous plus-size models. But last night Crystal Renn admitted that she is now no bigger than a U.S. Size 8-10 (UK Size 12-14). The 24-year-old Chanel model, who was previously a UK Size 16, said that she finally felt ready to exercise for the first time since her teens, when she suffered from an eating disorder and became addicted to working out for up to eight hours a day. She revealed that a difficult break-up had contributed to her decision to embrace a more healthy lifestyle, and a combination of hiking and yoga had helped the weight drop off.

She told NY Magazine: ‘In the past, I avoided exercise because it brought back terrible feelings. I wasn’t ready. And I was scared that maybe I was going to be addicted again. That’s a fear that goes through your mind, whenever you’re getting over an addiction or a disease like anorexia, yeah, I absolutely was worried. But then I guess you could say my life changed in a really drastic way. For one, there was a split-up that I went through that was very difficult, and I thought, “You know what? I need to be in a good place. I need to find me again.”’

I went backpacking for three weeks and I came back and I had lost some weight. And basically I’ve been traveling ever since. This is just how my body is now… It’s been strange, actually, because it’s not something I’ve been trying to do,’ she admitted. She added that her current routine was far from rigorous: ‘I think I probably have a good relationship with the exercise that I do do,’ she said. ‘I’m taking care. I’m just in a really good place. I do hiking. I do yoga, but nothing crazy, just in my house. It brings me peace.’

What do you think of Crystal’s explanations?
