Actress Sara Rue Is the New Jenny Craig Spokesperson
December 5, 2009 in Beauty & Body Image, Celebrity Quotes, Then and Now by Versus

People Magazine has the details:
Valerie Bertinelli and Nicole Sullivan are about to be in even better company as Eastwick star Sara Rue joins them as the newest spokesperson for Jenny Craig. The 31-year-old actress tells PEOPLE that she can’t wait to start the program.
“My weight has fluctuated my whole life (see her then & now in the picture!), and because I’ve been on television since I was 11 years old, everyone has seen it,” she explains. “I think like so many women in this country I have a problem controlling what I eat sometimes based on my emotional health.”
Bertinelli, who lost 40 pounds on Jenny Craig, tells PEOPLE that Rue “is me three years ago. She’s every woman who’s ever started a diet.” She will be a good spokesperson because, “she’s real. She’s honest.”
Rue’s initial weight loss goal is 30 pounds. Then, she says, “we’ll see how my body looks, how I feel, and go from there.”
Her first post-weight loss goal? “Rock climbing or wind surfing!” Rue says. “The things that I’m just too intimidated the size I am now to do.”
But the big question remains: Does she want to follow in Bertinelli’s footsteps and sport a bikini? “If I look half as good as Valerie does at the end of this, maybe, possibly,” Rue says, smiling. “I don’t know if I’m more scared of sharks or being in a bathing suit. Maybe sharks, depending on the day.”

I thinks she looks best in the first picture!
Of course…
But hey, 30 pounds??!!! Based on the 2009 picture, she will look like a skeleton if she lost 30 pounds. Or has she gained since that pic?!
Wow, she has a lost A LOT of weight. I remember when she was on Popular back when the WB was still around and she was SO MUCH bigger.
Good for her,
I think she looks fabulous in the 2009 pic, she’s just meant to be a bit bigger IMO, plus she’s been overweight so long her brain is propably giving her loads of signals to eat (studies suggest our bodies always try and get to the heaviest weight we’ve ever been, so getting skinnier, our hunger signals etc get kinda screwed..), so i think it would be difficult for her to stay skinny, i don’t think it’s worth it if you just think about food half the time you’re awake. She might not be like that though.. Funnily enough, i think she even looks “skinny” in the 2005 pic, like too skinny, and she clearly isn’t all THAT small in that either. I guess it’s just i’m used to seeing her bigger. But yeah, maybe around Popular she was unhealthily heavy, or so it seemed, but she looks quite alright now, hopefully she’ll just lose enough to feel comfortable enough to do all those things she wants to, not making it too too hard for her to maintain her size.
I loved her performance in Eastwick … she is a wonderful actress and since her weight doesn’t interfere with her acting prowess, I think she doesn’t have much to worry about. I mean, she looks perfect now .. not skinny nor fat.
maybe its the hair color, but she actualy looks better with the extra lbs. not many can say that
I don’t see any reason why she would have to fear a bikini in any of those pictures. She’s bigger, but I mean really, she looks average weight. It’s not like she’s size 18 or something.
But either way, good luck to her on her endeavor.
in the last pic she looks good, but shes not really a wow celeb!
i think she looks best in the middle picture, she may shockingly skinny in comparison two the other photos, but if you look at it on its own she looks healthy with good muscle tone, her legs aren’t twigs by any means.
however, i always think of her from popular, so it’s hard for me to get used to the idea of her being that slender. i probably wouldn’t recognize her otherwise.
i love Sara Rue so much, almost perfect was such a great show!
I’ve actually had a lot of people say i remind them of her – i’m blond but similar facially and bodywise to her first photo (i’m on jenny craig too funnily enough)
I think her 2009 figure is nice, the best of the three but losing 30 pounds won’t make her look emaciated or anything, i don’t think she’s short and she’s well proportioned so it would only be a dress size or two, I’ve lost 20lb and its not quite a full dress size.
Her hair looks gorgeous red though, she should keep the red!
She looks great in the 2005 photo. Look at that tiny waist!
She’s a beautiful woman! Love her recent haircolour, really suits her. She’s naturally bigger so she shouldn’t struggle to lose as much weight as she lost in 2005.
oh my what a cutie
love her face and her red hair but her figure looked best in 2005, tho its ok now. she looks good anyway!
you should do more posts on her so we can see her weightloss progress. im excited for her
Good for her for wanting to get healthy, but I think she’s going to do her career a great disservice if she loses too much weight. I adore her and think she’s a fantastic actress who has managed to transcend type – i.e. she’s not just “the fat girl” who is the butt of every joke. I’m afraid she won’t work as much if she turns into some skeletal, skinny, Hollywood bobble-head. And that would be a real tragedy, because she’s great.
People these days do not lose weight to get healthy they lose it because society pushes them to look a certain way and they try to fit in. If your fat your lazy and looked down upon and made fun of. If your skinny everyone thinks your the best thing in the world. Either way we are all gonna die skinny or not
Not really… Especially her, who is a star should watch her weight. Let’s face it, stars are getting paid 50% of what they do, acting, singing etc and the other 50% for how they look and present themselves. It’s a fact, if you don’t want that shallow stuff then don’t become a star.
As for you i think you’ve been reading too much on VS, look around you in real life. I only WISH some of my fat friends felt ‘pushed’ to lose weight, but they don’t and it is very unhealthy to be like that. On tv and magazines there is a certain pressure but in real life? Not so much, I have yet to see a person in real life who is losing weight because they feel pressured to due to the media.
