Sophia Loren Deserves a Post

Let’s take a break from all the 20 and 30 year-old celebs we see every time, all the time. Here’s someone we have never seen on our little site: actress and beauty icon Sophia Loren.
She is still a beauty! Totally! Just check out how she looks in a completely white outfit at age 74! She’s still got her trademark hourglass shape going on!
And this is Sophia many years ago (that waist-hip ratio is incredible):

Check out more pictures of Sophia in white after the jump!

I must say that she looks fantastic! 74 y.o….wow…!
I agree!
wow!!What a nice brake from all the photoshop and stuff we have now yay!!
Wow.
But what I am going to comment on is what amazes me most- here is someone who was regarded as the epitmy pf beauty. Yet if a celeb looked like that today we would criticise how untoned and fat they were etc.
Yes I am one to comment about figures as well but it concerns me how far we have moved in recent years towards the unattanable and how we as society will cope. The sad fact is Sofia now probably wouldn’t even be noticed now unless it was for a lads mag type pin up.
Because women were not encouraged to exercise back then. It was seen as waste of time. If they did work out it would be callanetics or something very low impact and they most certainly did not do strength training!
So my point is female celebs were expected to be soft, untoned but also with curves in the right places.
what is even more sad is that as celebrities have gotten thinner the general population has gotten fatter
That’s actually really true! I hadn’t thought of it like that, but it’s quite interesting.
WOW
Yeah this is the type of body that people would *jump* all over now calling flabby and fat, yet i think it is raw and beautiful
You`re right ! I think nowadays beauty is too ” standardized “. You have to look in a certain way to be considered beautiful, although beauty is so subjective … You`re not “aloud” to be “you” anymore;you MUST
… MUST look like a doll,otherwise you`re considered ugly …It`s so sad …
Sorry to double post Versus- but would you be able to do a beauty comparison through the decades- bikini pic of todays versus 90s, 80s, 70s beauties as they were then?
Great idea!
It would be interesting to see how standards of beauty have changed. Even though you had curvy icons like Sophia Loren, Monroe, Diane Dorrs and Jane Mansfield just like today there were also thin icons like Audrey Hepburn, Jane Fonda, Grace Kelly and Vivienne Leigh. Judy Garland was also a curvy girl but for some deranged reason wasn’t considered a beauty and often had to hide her figure so I guess there are some similarities between then and now.
I like that idea a lot! It would be interesting to compare and contrast between decades.
I will definitely keep this one in mind!
Thanks for the tip!
No Photoshop, but too much plastic surgery!
Agreed. Her hairline looks a bit disturbing now and her face looks a bit off to me. I couldn’t say what surgery she has had (other than a likely face lift), but whatever she has done makes her face look unnatural somehow.
She looks great! She does not in any way look 74! But that’s a little to much make-up for my taste.
“Everything you see, I owe it to pasta” Sophia Loren
This lovely woman has been such an epitome of beauty all over the world, that my Mexican mother decided to name my sister after her. All I have to say is that I hope to look that good when I’m 74!!!
And ladies, you are absolutely correct; its sad that a woman with natural, healthy curves from yesterday would be considered fat/obese by today’s Hollywood standards.
She really said that????!! I didn’t know, and I’m half Italian…… shame on me!!!
All I know is that she admitted cutting down food drastically after menopause because she was packing weight too quickly and could not “afford” to be fat……. Hard to be a beauty icon….. even when you’re in your 70s!!!!
i just adore sophia!
i’m from naples just as her(near Pozzuoli to be honest!)and i am really proud of it!She will never loose her beauty and her class!i’m so jelous of her hip- waist ratio: shame on me that i want to lost weight when i have a little waist just as her!
You know, all those skinny people just drive me crazy….(i hate them!)
shame on me too! i have a body VERY much like sophias and but for some reason want to have a body like Miranda Kerr!?
we need more strong, confident, sexy women like sophia as role models in this day and age.
how can you hate skinny people? honestly? its so much more comfortable (to be skinny) and it looks way better.
i guess everyone has their own preferences
No, it’s not more comfortable to be skinny, at least not if you aren’t naturally so. And no, it doesn’t look way better.
It much more comfortable to be skinny and it looks way better? Really? That is certainly an opinion but not fact. Not everyone is built the same way. I would rather be built the way I am, thin with curves!
I don’t think anyone should hate skinny people (plenty are born that way, just as hourglass women are born that way), but I do not think it is more comfortable or better unless the woman herself was naturally skinny and gained/lost too much weight somehow.
i love sophia
that black& white photo is NOT good
she is soo flabby and her thighs touch!!
whoever writes this blog is always using the terms “skinny” &”thin” when the girls are average to chubby!!
it BUGS me!!!!
Uh, what’s wrong with thighs touching?
LOL, what “average to chubby” girls is Versus calling “skinny” & “thin”?
Then move on….
Well, I am trying my best to describe these ladies as objectively as I can.
Please remember, this site is trying to promote a healthy body image and I would never say about a woman at a healthy size that she is chubby / needs to lose weight / etc. and I believe that all women should stay at their natural size & shape.
Even more, I genuinely believe that Sophia looks really beautiful, healthy and curvy in the black and white photo.
She was incredibly striking in her youth, and is still gorgeous for a woman of her age today!
So confident she is.
Yeah maybe she’s had
a little surgery.
Her hair might be a wig.
But as we get older we
need a little more upkeep.
Never give up. Its nice
to take care of oneself.
scary as all hell. Jeeze…what’s so wrong with aging gracefully? she’s not accepting the idea at all. her hair look ridiculous at that color, I can’t stand tanned skin on old people, a total turn off.
What’s wrong with the hair colour? I think it looks lovely. Nothing more ageing than grey hair that’s for sure.
Agree about the tan though, at any age it’s baaad unless that’s your natural skin colour.
She has always been one of my favorites; I adore her.
She truly had what one could call “the perfect body” (as if there is such a thing) in her heyday.
Even now, she has that natural grace and elegance, which modern movie stars just do not have.
i have just returned from a trip so i didn’t read comments…
Well i do not HATE skinny people in general,i hate people that every day look at me and say:”look at her! she will never fit into a size 4 or 6(or even SMALLER!)!”
This makes me hate who i am,and really i’m not THAT fat but, you know, when you go to a store and they say to you:”our biggest size is a size 44″(I think it’s a 8 or a 10 in usa,i don’t know exactly sorry!)you really feel like You are the bad one.
I write this to remember myself to be strong and selfconsceous of what i am and what i want to be.
Being in my seventies makes me feel insecure about my body image and i’m trying to change it!,but i think that if we have more healthy bodies to look at,not so many girls would want to starve themselves to fit in same crazy standards…
Hope this will not annoy nobody:btw i’m sorry if someone will be.
Just remember NO-ONE can make you feel inferior without your consent.
Stay strong.
sorry i meant 17ins!
Very pretty
But I do say….her makeup and her glasses are a bit crazy…she’ll look better with some browns/neutrals and her glasses need to be smaller and sleeker…just cause they’re kind of making her look older. But she’s beautiful!!
She was just so gorgeous!
