Tyra Banks Says: “Get Your Shape in Shape!”
November 4, 2009 in Tyra Banks by Versus

Tyra Banks (who lost over 20 pounds in the past months) just started a new movement “Get Your Shape in Shape!” and she’s dedicating an entire show to it. OK Magazine reports:
Tyra announced she will be dedicating the entire hour to answering audience questions and providing step-by-step tips on her new, healthy lifestyle.
“This is not a diet, I do not believe in diets, I have been on diets in the past they are a bunch of bologna, this is a lifestyle change,” Tyra says to her audience. “It’s not about being skinny, it’s about getting in the best shape that you can be. This is a Tyra Show movement.”
“If I can do it and love to lay up and not work out and I love me some BBQ ribs and some ice cream and some Haagen Daaz, I can do this and you can do this and still eat what you want, just not every second,” adds Tyra in her pep talk. “It is time to get your shape in shape!”
Tyra said she is proud to have lost weight the healthy way while maintaining her “34DD boobies and her round booty.”
What do you guys think about this?

Someone loses weight and then it’s like they’re physically incapable of shutting up about it. Clearly her Halloween costume was accurate. She is a Kardashian.
LOL FUNNIEST THING IVE HEARD ALL DAY !!
She’s right about the diets and that it’s nice to have a healthy, strong body instead of just looking good etc etc, but that’s what everyone says… Good for her for being lucky and maintaining her curves, but that wouldn’t be possible for everyone and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s still better to be eating good than having big boobs (if it were to come down to those two options, lol). She seems a bit self absorbed, but i bet she’s feeling so happy it’s hard for her to be quiet. I’ll just not watch her show so i can limit my Banks intake.
I don’t think she is saying everyone has to lose fat and maintain their curves. I think she is saying to just be the most fit, healthy version of you. In her case, she still has curves, in an endomorph’s case, that person can get fit and healthy but may always have a layer of fat or never have a waist, etc… I actually applaud the message that although nobody’s body is the same, we can all work towards making the body we’ve got, as healthy as we can (within reason). This is a more moderate and acceptable (to me) message than: only skinny is pretty, only curves are womanly, it is acceptable to be obese as long as your are happy, etc…
This is the first time I have heard Tyra make a statement without wanting to say sit down woman!
LOL! So now I actually have to watch Tyra’s show?? Yikes!
She does look FABULOUS in this pic so hopefully she has some good advice.
It’s gotta be better than Jenny McCarthy’s 2 week nothing but soup diet and yoga in 110 degrees, right? Of course, I wish I were so disciplined.
GO TYRA! You wild and crazy thing you;)
Oh Lord this woman.
When she was bigger it was all about loving your curves and loving your big fat booty. (which is a good message, I just didn’t like Tyra’s way of presenting it).
Now that she has lost weight, it is all about getting your shape in shape?
I don’t care if she talks about her weight gain and weight loss and her personal experience, but she makes it sound like whatever she is currently, that’s the ideal and that’s what everyone should be. When she’s bigger, if you aren’t bigger too then you are not a real woman and “men don’t like sticks.” When she is smaller and in shape, that’s the way to go and you should be in shape too. It may be just me but these are very conflicting messages…especially considering the fact that on her love-your-curves episode, some of the women she was talking to definitely could have used some “get your shape in shape” advice.
I don’t know, for an ex-supermodel she sounds very, very insecure about her appearance. I’ve found that, that’s the case with most supermodels who stop modeling, which is a shame.
totallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
she was all about poor fat girls (she call curvy!!) loving their selves I remember one ep with a fat girl who her BF didn’t see naked or something! And she was all ur beautiful the way you are and the media are sick for making us believe that we should be thin and stuff
now that she can’t fight the pressure of the tabloids and lost the weight she changed her views?
she is in fact insecure but looks fab now (regardless of how scary looking she was on gossip girl x( )
This. Took the words right out of my mouth.
i agree. she was all for women for loving their curves and never be skinny because it’s showing a negative message so now it’s all about getting in shape and whatnot. i like tyra but she can be too wishy washy when it comes to body image. it’s like she defends the women with curves than women that are skinny. i’ve seen some of her episodes that talk down on skinny women and think it’s okay but let someone do that to women that have curves, then it’s a big no-no. i’m all for women being healthy and loving your body but be real about it instead of coming off as a hypocrite.
Just what i thought thx girls for making this easier on me…I think the same…she’s insecure.
Oh my gosh, I totally agree with you Casey. What she should of said is that it’s ok to be skinny or curvy as long as you have a healthy BMI and do healthy things to achieve or maintain it. Do you agree with me?
Yes I agree with you Julie. On her first show she should have said both curvy and thin women can be sexy, and both curvy and thin women need to stay in shape. There was one lady she was speaking to that was clearly not curvy, but overweight. I would have liked her to tell that lady that she is beautiful, but needs to get her “shape in shape” as she says now. The fact that she delayed sharing her “shape in shape” advice makes me wonder if she believed it a year ago, when she wasn’t thin.
Maybe I am just an idealist.
Then don’t watch the show if you are worried about it. How many insecure “ex-supermodels have their own talk show and reality show? Hmmm. None. So what, When she was bigger she felt good. She also feels good being skinny. So what is your problem with her? Are you an ex supermodel expert or just know all the ex supermodels personally? . I just think you are being rude just to be noticed.
lol I had to reread what I wrote because this was a while back.
I actually like Tyra and I like her talk show, I think it’s the best one that’s on today. I just don’t like her attitude when it comes to weight. Like I said, I don’t care if she talked about herself or her personal experience with weight gain and weight loss. I just don’t like how she acts like everyone should be like her, when “her” is a contradiction. I feel like to act like you’re always some sort of ideal is a public cover for personal insecurities.
But anyway, it’s just my opinion, no rudeness intended, so no reason to flip out.
Besides, a few people seem to agree with me so I feel like maybe I’m not completely nuts for saying what I said.
she is a self obsessed, self publicizing machine. who cares about the message whatever it may be today, that she is shoving down our throats. we all already have an opinion on this, along with everybody else who is even a tiny bit famous.
there should be a ‘get your brain in shape’ instead… its like all that matters for a woman is how thin/ fat you are regardless of whether your an idiot or have zero personality
It’s great to be healthy and in shape no one questions that and everyone has the right to defend themselves when theyre heavier (defend that theyre happy and healthy) and show off when they get fit BUT Ms Tyra is beyond hypocritical and conceded.
I think she is a hypocrite.
i think she should have used the get your shape in shape from the beginning. oh well. she seems pretty self absorbed. and feels insecure and keeps using her tyra show as like her support group or something. just cos theyre her fans so they all blindly follow her.
A couple of years ago, Tyra told People magazine that she was 161 pounds. So do you think she is about 135 now? I think she looks perfect at this weight!
nah, more like 140-145
are u sure she is a 34dd ! cus I am 34dd and her boobies looks smaller … anyway she looks great she has a nice personality so I won’t judge her .
I agree completely. I do not believe in diet and I changed my lifestyle completely two years ago. I lost 30 pounds without much effort – it didn’t happen over night, but I have no trouble maintaining. I eat more often, I make better food choices. I indulge and overeat from time to time – and then I go back to my healthy routine. So I agree with Tyra on that.
i agree with you after i had my baby i started working out and eating healthy 6 days a week and then once i got back to my old body i only started working out 3 times a week and eat what i want mainly healthy but i pig out alot like somedays but i go straight back to healthy eating the next day and i maintain my weight like that
CoffeeGirl, waaaay back, the word “diet” used to mean exactly what you are doing. Meaning – the general way of eating for a person, or a person’s eating habits. For LIFE.
Now, a “diet” means a gimmick one does for 2 weeks, with ridiculous harsh rules, and usually unhealthy retrictions that unless you have the willpower of a demigod, you will never maintain for life. Most people, even with the WORST eatings habits, can drop as many pounds as they like. Everyone can muster up enough willpower for a month or two or even more. the problem is, AFTERWARDS. As soon as the person stops their efforts, they fall back right into the same bad habits that got them unhealthy in the first place. THAT’S why 95% of the people gain back what they’ve lost. Because they perceive their diet as a “gimmick diet” not as a LIFE change.
Whenever people ask me for advice on how to stay slim, I tell them – build good habits and control your bad ones. Exactly what you did. It ain’t rocket science. It ain’t eating a specific thing, at a specific hour, or cutting out an entire food group, or exercising for 4 hours in a gym. It’s trying to make good choices, and trying to get rid of bad habits (like binging, and distorted portion size, and sugar rollercoasters – high, low, high low etc.).
Wow; the quality of the comments on this site is really high. It was better than other sites in the first place, but i like the way it is growing and i like how smart and down to earth are the people that come here.
Great advice suzushii
First Tyra says “Kiss my fat ass”…and next she says “Get your shape in shape.” What message is she trying to get across? She seems like she changes her mind a lot. I’ve also lost respect for her after watching the new season of Top Model and listening to her comments about short models. She doesn’t directly come out and say short models are incompetent, but she hints at it which is still equally as rude. I’m not a fan of this girl.
I actually watched this episode. She didn’t get in shape because of the media, she did it with friends to just be healthy.
She also stated at the beginning that she wasn’t sure she was going to talk about this on her show, but a lot of her fans wanted her to, so she did.
Also, I read a comment that she uses her show as a support group like that’s a bad thing. I think a lot of people need a support group and need someone to get through things.
i completely agree
I’m shocked at how many people seem annoyed by her. I don’t religiously watch her show, but the times that I had seen it, she never once struck me as self absorbed. I think she’s just pretty confident about herself. Sure, she talks about herself a lot, but I think she does that so people can relate with her more. And what are people talking about her being a hypocrite? If you actually watch the episodes where she promotes curves, she clearly states (and im paraphrasing here) that loving your body doesn’t mean indulging in unhealthy food and being a couch potato, but eating in a healthy manner and exercising; she goes on to say that you shouldnt do that to be a size 0 but simply to be healthy and respect your body. She never once preached that you should just love your obese, unhealthy body and let that be the end of it.
I agree that she talks about weight a lot, but who doesnt? surely none of us have a right to degrade her about her preoccupation with weight seeing as how ALL of us here are on a website about weight and celebrity figures!
It seems like A LOT of the people that have posted are just cynical and can’t be happy for someone who has lost weight the healthy way and wants to share how. I don’t see why it’s a big deal…I admit she can be “over the top” but that’s just who she is and there’s nothing wrong with that. Why wouldn’t she talk about her weight loss. She has a “TALK SHOW?” You know, where people talk.
I like she isn’t afraid to be loud and crazy, it’s not my personality and I can’t wait her every day, it can be a bit much, but that doesn’t mean I am going to say negative shit about her. Also, just because she lost weight but also loved herself when she was heavier, doesn’t make her a hypocrite at all. She probably just realized that she wasn’t eating as healthy as she could, and is just trying to be a better version of herself. That’s not hypocritical. People go through phases. Its normal. She was NEVER fat, and I think she looks beautiful either way. Now she is just more “modelesque,” again, but she achieved it the right way. She didn’t lose 20lbs overnight via diet pills or what not.
If you don’t like it or her, just scroll down or flip the channel! Problem solved.
with all due respect, shouldn’t we say what we want? i mean it’s our opinion. i do like tyra but she does comes off as a hypocrite when it comes to body image. you say you’re proud of your curves and say this is what a man wants but now she wants to promote getting your shape in shape, when she could’ve done this in the beginning. which one is it? i am happy that she lost weight, i just don’t like how she changes up. what’s wrong with people expressing their opinions about tyra? never said she was a bad person or a bitch. to me she comes off as a hypocrite and if she was all about getting your shape in shape then she should’ve done that on the first episode.
A hypocrite? really ?
Well she is still about embracing your curves..she is very happy that she got in shape..the best shape she can be..and still maintained her curves..it is not like now that she is thin..she is saying that curves are bad..
It is really annoying the reaction of some people…I was heavier before and when I lost weight, most people were just like..so jealous..and feeling bitter…
while my weight-loss should have motivated them to lose weight as well..
Again with the everyone is jealous.
As fergie would say: Tyra, Tyra, Tyra.
This is “Tyra Movement”? Give me a BREAK! Her producers probably told her it was time to stop being lazy and finally lose the weight she’s been carrying for what seems like years now.
My guess is that she was happy before. Who knows how long this new size will last..
Of course she kept her boobs. You can’t burn silicon like you burn fat!
any guesses on her weight now?
I guessed 135. What do you think?
I think she looks horrible… She looks better curvier. It looks too hard like she’s trying to be a “supermodel” again and not accepting herself for what she now is… plus all the weight lose is making her forehead look a whole lot bigger LOL
casey all the way… you are completely correct
