Alicia Keys Brings the Quote of the Day

On still going strong with her decision to not wear make-up:

‘It can seem silly, but I think that many of us are caught in this trap. We worry about what the others are thinking about us, and we forget to think by ourselves. Actually, this is not only about using makeup or not. It is more about living, being as you feel really comfortable and exploring all of it.’

… says 36 year-old Alicia in Elle.

I get what she is saying But the problem is I feel comfortable wearing light make up And trying to ditch make up would create a new trap for me being all conscious about my appearance

She still has super complex hairstyles done so I don’t really get what’s the point?

Haha ur right 🙂

Anyway, i would totally ditch makeup if i had great skin, but since thats my “cross” i just feel more comfortable covering it. Easy for her since she has good skin. Anyway, if my skin ever gets good i will go whitout

you might have better skin if you didn’t cover it with chemically crap. try going without a few days a week or buy lighter more natural makeup like signature minerals and see if it makes a difference. it might not but its worth a try. I know several girls who caked on so much foundation they gave themselves bad skin.

Hey
Thanks for the advice but i dont even wear that much makeup 🙈 It’s not because of that. I have hyper pigmentations, spots etc :-/ it’s genetics, my mom had the same problem. I try not to mess too much with my skin so i hope it gets better over time

Personally I did try this many times for weeks and… didn’t change a thing.

Two of my friends have never wore makeup in their lives and both their skin are a lot worse than most people wearing light or heavy makeup 😅 It doesn’t change a thing

This is the WORST styling I have seen in a very long time. WTF.

Facially, she is still a cutie but she is not pulling any of those looks off.

She seems to be a hypocrite (big surprise). When her skin was bad she caked it on, now that it isn’t, it’s okay to be barefaced? And I’m not so sure she is fully bare faced…

I’m pretty sure she’s wearing something as well. “No makeup makeup”.

of course, there’s obviously blush at play.
i adore alicia keys. shes a goddess through n through. and the sad irony is that this mag will most def use her image to sell “nourishing nude” lip glosses ($54), “au naturale” mascaras ($75), and “barely there” foundations ($130). sickening capitalist propaganda.

I don’t like makeup from purely ecological view, it creates so much waste! Not just all the plastic packaging, within which you get a couple grams of product, but also bleached cotton pads you use to remove makeup, plastic microbeads and man-made polymers used as stabilizers… Do you really need 50 shades of lipstick, 10 highlighters and 15 blushes? They will go bad before you get to use them all. Sure, we all have our vices, but I think it’s unfair that some (priviledged) people produce so much more waste (without even thinking about it!) than others, instead of reaching… Read more »

Yeah, it’s the ‘fifty shades’ that is the real problem, I think. I listened to Princess Diana say that she only had a couple of dresses when she got engaged to Prince Charles and how she and her mother had to go out and buy a wardrobe of clothes. Now this was a girl who came from a wealthy family. Imagine. It made me realise just how normal it is now to own so much stuff, that is simply unnecessary. Women have always liked to adorn themselves but the level of consumption to do that now is out of control… Read more »

Easy to say when your complexion is so perfect. I have severe hereditary dark circles and a facial scar so I definitely need concealer unless I want people to ask me about my health all day long. Also, I’m pretty sure she’s wearing at least a little blush and highlighter.

or she’s rich and can get all the facials and non-invasive treatments she wants.
She’s almost 35 and has not a line on her face from PS.

Easy to not wear makeup (or very light) when you are as naturally gorgeous with a perfect complexion like her. I do like her message tho, more living and less worrying about what others think.

I like the first picture the “be real” cover the best.

I hate the way she’s wearing this “no makeup” thing like it’s a cause or badge of honor or she’s brave for doing it. Sure, you might not feel the pressures of society to wear make up when you have a near perfect face with perfect bone structure and perfect skin and f-you money and not a need the world.

I would give her some credit if it weren’t for the face that she’s had a nose job on a perfectly normal, nice nose, which you do to fit into a perfect “ideal” and that she has access to skin care and grooming treatments leagues out of the average person’s budget.

Just dont wear makeup and dont talk about it – thats way more powerful

She’s borderline shaming those women who do wear make up.

I remember when Shakira had her makeup-less image. She never make it out to be about “liberation” or any of this crap. It’s just another look. Specially because it’s not like she doesn’t care about her image, she still cares about fashion, shaving, grooming, hairstyles, etc.

She may not wear makeup day to day, but here I am 100% certain she is wearing at least:
– under eye concealer
– blush
– brow gel (pomade, wax–something)
– lip stick (balm, gloss, whatever)
In higher resolution images of the cover, these are all visible.
