Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay recently shared a few thoughts on body image, while opening up about her troubles with an eating disorder – the full story from Fox Entertainment:

Jessica Brown Findlay, who is starring in Hulu’s new drama “Harlots,” is opening up about her eating disorder that she’s suffered from since she was a teenager.

I’ve had an eating disorder since I was 14,” the 27-year-old “Downton Abbey”star told The Daily Telegraph. ”And I think that we can feed certain ideas of what beauty is and what success is, and I just feel there has to come a time where those aren’t the rules anymore, and then we can have a mature conversation about what that is about, and about depression.”

“I felt so alone for so long, and I just hid,” she continued. “And then I started talking and held my head up, and instead of saying ‘sorry’ decided to tell myself that I matter.”

She explained that when she started going to therapy, she realized it was good and healthy to talk about her issues.

“It’s about learning to stand up and say, ‘This is me, and that’s OK,’” she said. “I’m not going to be a better actor if I’m a dress size smaller. It’s nothing to do with my brain.”

I’m glad she’s speaking out, but her quotes are incredibly hard to follow and very poorly worded. Definitely not articulate. She should stick to reading lines pre-written for her.

Usually when a quote is hard to follow or somehow “off” the blame is on who ever wrote the interview. If you want to test this, record a normal conversation and see how many smart-sounding quotes or even full sentances you can find. Many money is on not many, even if the conversation felt smart and included a lot of smart ideas. That’s… Read more »

agree with this.
I’m a researcher, and I transcribe interviews, etc. Some of the people are doctors, etc. and the way people speak in a conversation does NOT translate well.

She’s so pretty! I’m glad she’s facing her issues and talking it out, it doesn’t help anyone to keep it all in until you inevitably explode. Never thought she looked too big, just “normal”. but I get how that word can be seen as bad these days, when it shouldn’t.

I hate how “normal” and “healthy” are seen as bad these days…very triggering (for me, at least).

I don’t see those words as bad at all! I think she’s perfect the way she is! I honestly pride myself on being a normal healthy weight, I’ve worked on my health, both mental and physical, a lot, and it’s one of my greatest accomplishments.

Let’s change this guys.. one person at a time..
