Natalie Imbruglia: “Why would you want to lie about how old you are? It’s stupid.”

41 year-old Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia opened up recently about the differences between how women and men get treated in the media, as well as about Hollywood’s divas who lied bout their age:

On how men have it easier:

It’s sad that in the media, we’re scrutinized more harshly than men. The George Clooneys of the world don’t get asked the same things women do.

On how she doesn’t understand women who lie about their age:

I think if you try to hold on too tightly to youth, you get yourself into trouble. I don’t care about telling people my age. In Hollywood, people shy away from that, which I find hysterical. Why would you want to lie about how old you are? It’s stupid.

… said Natalie in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

She is such a beauty! Love her songs & her view on age. If you put a negative light on receiving laugh lines, wrinkles, and white hair, rthen you become afraid of yourself maturing. When I see people of all different ages, shades, heights, cultures, etc., I love to see how they age. I think it is beautiful and as much as I am loving each moment in life, I do look forward to the future and all that comes with it. When I am 78, I want to grow out my white hair, have wicked tattoos, and also remain… Read more »

I know it’s stupid, but I can’t help myself. I am 29 and going on 30, but I keep saying I am 28. 30 sounds scary to me. I haven’t achieved anything a 30 years person is expected to achieve.

Sounds scary to be thirty? Yeah, but here’s a way to put it in perspective, today is the youngest you’ll ever be. That is, if you live to the average age for women of around 80, in comparison 30 is very, very young.

While extremely laudable Natalie might like to cease using Botox and fillers, if she is to really be true to her beliefs. I have no problem with Natalie’s preference to shout out her age. I do have a problem with her judgement of other women’s choice not to.
Live and let live, Natalie. You do look gorgeous, though.

She looks great, good for her! Goes to show if you take care of yourself, you can stay young looking and beautiful in your 40’s too!

I don’t think it’s fair to call the women that hide their age “stupid”. They’re doing it as a response of society’s views on women and youth, even if they’re not aware of that. I would call it ANNOYING, though. An older woman (that does know my age) was like “Oh, you’re like 20… *something* now, right? ;)” on my birthday. I’m TWENTY f*cking FIVE, what the hell is wrong with that? The worst is that she congratulated a guy of my same age without having a problem voicing his age. They’re trying to compliment you, but I think it’s… Read more »

Oh my gosh, I had such a similar interaction! This lady in her 50s was all like “You’re twenty-SIX?! Wow..” and to my guy friend who’s 25, she was like “You’re so young! You’re such a baby!”.
I don’t get why us women do this to ourselves when we should all be fighting back at this stupid societal belief that women need to be young. I’m sorry that happened to you, but at least you see the hypocrisy in it! Let’s not let this people get to us 🙂
