Rachel Bloom: “When you put me next to a model, I look obese”

08GLOBEFASHION59-superJumbo - Rachel Bloom: "When you put me next to a model, I look obese"

On finding it hard to dress for events since she is not a sample size:

What also has become apparent when I have to get clothes for these events is that I have a normal body. A lot of fashion houses are reluctant to lend clothes that aren’t in the sample sizes of 0 and 2, so it’s getting harder and harder for me to find clothes without buying them. That’s the whole problem with the fashion industry: My body size is literally normal and healthy, but when you put me next to a model, I look obese.

… says Rachel, the star of Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

Wow, it must be awful having to pay for your clothes like normal human beings, my heart is truly breaking for her.

I mean, I wish she would have worded it differently, but many actresses borrow clothes for a one night event. I refuse to buy a dress for just one occasion. I need to be able to wear it again.

It probably gets hella expensive after a while. The cost for women’s clothes is more expensive than men’s, especially gowns, not to mention extra grooming items (which are also overpriced compared to men’s) combined with being paid less than the guys. Guys can wear their suits again; if women re-wear something, they’ll get put down (unfair). I’d rather have the option to wear a black suit 100 times than have to wear something different every time

Or do non-famous people (who just happen to be a size 2) borrow them a lot, too? If I were in her shoes (which I’m luckily not because I’d hate to be exposed like that), I’d try to find a new… Read more »

I find her smile cute, although it must be a really awkward feeling when it’s not genuine for posing, but isn’t every fake smile? Could she actually have a different smile/laugh for when she’s actually entertained?

Yes Thank you! Who told her it was a good idea to force laugh in every shot. UGH! It would be kind of endearing to see it in one picture, but come on. I used to have this friend that would stick her tongue slightly in between her top and bottom teeth to smile for pictures. It made her smile looked wider…and absolutely ridiculous. Like, NO. Rant over.
