On beauty and body image:
‘It’s just so ingrained in us, the idea that we should take up the right amount of space, literally and figuratively. I’ve wrestled with this my whole life, as just a person in the world and as somebody who make images. Being comfortable with how she looks while also striving to look her best had been part of the issue. It’s OK to want to look and feel your best. It’s OK to work at being attractive, whatever that means to you. And it’s also OK to not expect to be defined by that. It’s OK to be powerful in every way: to be big, to take up space. To breathe and to thrive.’
On vanity and insecurities:
‘I’m very vain about my performance. I want to give as honest a performance as I can. But I’m not so worried about being regarded as beautiful when I’m playing a character. I have plenty of vanity in my life. I want to look pretty in the world. But I can be this bottomless pit. I now some of the most beautiful women on the planet-unequivocally, objectively friggin’ gorgeous- and they are rife with insecurity and self doubt, and you just think, ”Well how can that be?” I’m attractive enough. I can do the work I want to do. I’ve found a wonderful man who wants to make out with me. I’m good.’

On not looking pretty on screen all the time:
“I think people are made uncomfortable by uncensored expressions of emotions. But, you know, that’s my job. I don’t have those fears. I really have never been concerned about being beautiful on-screen. That’s just not my jam. I’m concerned about it if I’m playing a beautiful character. I love sitting in the makeup trailer and getting my makeup done in 15 minutes as opposed to an hour and a half.”
On her life as a thirty-something:
“I’m happier in my thirties. I feel clearer about who I am and less apologetic about it, and more accepting of my limitations and also more aware of the ways in which I’m capable. Gravity hasn’t had too profound of an effect, and you’re little less emotionally gangly. The twenties are a deceptively challenging/painful time. I’m just glad to be out of that phase.”

On how much weight she has gained during her pregnancy:
I was on my feet a lot during the pregnancy. I was working hard. So I didn’t have an opportunity to gain much.
On whether she lost the weight (she gave birth less than 1 month ago):
“I haven’t yet! I am very strapped into this dress. This is Versace, and they are really masters of illusion. I literally can’t go to the bathroom unless I take the entire dress off. So, there [are] some serious things involved here.”
