Many of you loooove to find out celebrities’ weight and measurements: Well, Destiny’s Child and Strictly Come Dancing star Michelle Williams wants to share a little bit of  info with us:

My metabolism has changed. It burns food quicker these days. I’m 120 pounds, but yes, I’m too skinny. I’ve always been like that. Growing up, I was so skinny – I was always skinny, skinny, skinny. I’ve always wanted to be a little bigger, so now I’m eating lots of pasta and rice. I want to gain weight. I’d like to have a figure like Halle Berry’s.’

… says 30 year-old Michelle in a recent interview.

P.S.: 120 pounds and 5’9” translates to 54 kg and 175 cm.

wow I dont remeber her being this skinny back in her destiny’s child days. Yeah she was always thin, but I dont think she was THIS thin. To me she really does look too thin here – her face looks gaunt and her arms looks like they could really use some extra muscle and fat – they look like skin and bone. The outfit is hideous btw lol why did they put her in that?

Lovisa

her face do look really gaunt here…

Maybe she is just aging. She’s always looked pretty slim to me. Don’t really thin women age quicker? The butt or the face is the choice you have to make.

She looked super thin in Destiny’s child but she would hide it. She’d always wear pants and push-up bras. I can relate because when I was super thin I was embarrassed by my super thin legs. It didn’t help that I had big feet either.

Yeah, I remember her being ridic skinny back in the day too. But back in the day she was doing mad cardio all the time, and constantly promoting destiny’s child (less time to eat/more stress?!) so i don’t know how her metabolism changed that much…i didnt even know it was possible

She is not that skinny. Also, I spent so many years trying to gain weight, but it’s just like losing weight diets: you can just eat that stuff for a short period of time and hope that the weight will be the same. It has to be a change for life. At least for me it was really hard to eat that much all the time, even if I love food, sometimes I just wanted to eat until I was full and stop there, forcing myself to eat beyond was making me lose the nice relationship I had with food.… Read more »

ha. i get that sometimes, but not even once a year, “you should eat ((a 55 gallon garbage can full of pig lard))”. hahahaa. no, they don’t suggest something as outrageous as that. i just reply, “yeah, i already eat whatever (so who cares)”. For other reasons, i usually wear long sleeves and pants, and the thinness isn’t as immediately obvious.

i think people with “normal” builds make the comments. i don’t recall any “fat” person commenting. but it’s so uncommon, and i don’t care, so i don’t remember much.

Amazing how the exact same stats can look so different. I am 5’9 and 120 and I feel I look so different. My legs seem much longer and slimmer…And I think I have a bit more hips than she does.

Anyways, yes it’s technically underweight but my frame is so small my dr isn’t concerned, at all. I was able to get pregnant at that weight, I eat well, etc…

i was thinking the same thing, except i’m the opposite. i’m 5’8 and was 120 at one point and didn’t look anywhere NEAR that thin.

you prob have much larger arms/upper body than she does and store your weight there…also she could be lying about her weight, if she is indeed 5’9 she might be 125-130 lbs

i just think her arms look a tad too thin but otherwise i don’t think she looks bad or too skinny. her face is not looking so fresh in this picture though… my bad?
i’d be happy to have her stats, but i am content with my own.

At 5’9″, she should way at least 130 to be considered medically healthy. I’m 5’6″, and at 105, I also used to be 10 pounds below the medical limit for my height. I was losing my eyebrow hair, my nails were brittle, and I lost my period. Yeah, it’s possible she’s still functioning properly, but I don’t think it was a coincidence that my period started again the moment I hit 115.

Alexa@Living La Vida Pura

No, it’s not a coincidence. However, she does not possess the same body as you do and hers probably doesn’t behave exactly the same.

Sharen

yeah, well your body is not hers. I’m technically underweight by BMI standards (or what ever you call that crap) and I have plenty of healthy looking hair, my nails are like rocks, and my period comes to visit every month at the appointed time and stays here for six long days.
To me she looks healthy, and I’m surprised by all the “too skinny” comments (once again I have to wonder where you people live, I see smaller girls than her every day)… Though I do think she was bigger before, but I’m not sure…

I’m not surprised by the “too skinny” comments, but I am surprised by some of the antagonism. A comment along the lines of, “Oh I struggle with my weight, now I have to watch what I eat, I eat less” gets so much support (as usual), yet, Williams’ experience does not despite the fact that they’re both within the realm of possibility. I don’t think anyone thinks Williams’ experience doesn’t exist in real life (unless they’ve been living under a rock), but they still seem to not like HEARING that it exists and being reminded that it exists. I’d have to agree with you on the point that our perception of skinny is ust as warped as our perception of fat, and I think the Fat Acceptance Movement has made things worst.

Michelle Williams is a thin girl but I wouldn’t call her skinny. I also find it funny that she says she wishes she had a body like Halle Berry, for though she does not have the muscle tone/build Berry does, she’s still quite busty and has more booty than Berry does. Basically she’s got curves.

just because some people think she looks a bit too thin (myself included) doesnt mean we are automatically living in cities/towns full of overweight people and overweight ourselves and therefore never see skinny people. I weight less than michelle – but I’m also taller than her. Difference being that I dont feel (nor am I ever told) that I look gaunt or ill or need to gain weight. Michelle just doesnt look very healthy here and IMO she’d look much better with more weight on her.

My sister has had a BMI of around 17 her whole life. She’s had two babies carried to full term, and she’s still BMI 17. Her skin hair and nails seem as good as anyone else’s.

For you being that tiny might have been bad, because your body was not supposed to be that small. For others, the same is not true. For others, their body functions at its best at smaller weights. This is not common, but it does happen.

Yep
Guest

True, true. I was just pointing out that by medical standards, she is underweight. Even for a small frame. The point I’m really trying to make is that people are truly becoming brainwashed, thinking people who are actually perfectly healthy are too fat. I wonder if that kind of thinking is furthered when they see people like this woman and think she is not that skinny. I’m not her physician, she may be healthy, but people like Britney Spears are not fat. And I live in the health capital of the world, btw.

And just because you’re 135 at 5’9” doesn’t mean you’d be a size 8. I’m 130, 5’9”, and I’m a size 4. When I was in highschool, I was 145 and was a size 8. Everybody carries their weight differently, I have a short torso and super super long legs.

THANK YOU! society is warped because everyone’s overweight! from the us gov website: “…while the average weight for women the same age [20-74] increased from 140.2 pounds in 1960 to 164.3 pounds in 2002”. i don’t have a bmi chart handy but i’d venture to say that the 1960s stats are healthy, and 2002 are not. i’m no expert but i have a feeling its a combo of all the crap and hormones injected into our food, out of control portion sizes, and fast food being a staple in american diets.

People are not supposed to have jutting bones, come on. It’s basic logic, you don’t have to neither see only fat people around nor to have a medic’s degree to figure that out. Stop assuming your idiocy is absolute truth and don’t fool yourself of it being knowledge. If you like skinny aesthetics, great, i love it too, but i would NEVER say a person SHOULD have visible chest bones, visible hipbones or visible ribs and even more consider this to be the epitome of health. Get a hold of yourself.

catc
Guest
catc

if you were replying to me then maybe you should, as you so delicately put it, ‘get a grip on yourself’ and please don’t misquote me so dreadfully with postulations. nowhere did i mention ‘jutting’ bones and nowhere did i assert that my opinions were absolute truth when absolute truth is anyway a fallacy.
hip bones showing means low body fat which is healthy if you live a place in which a shortage of food will never be a problem.

Cristina
Guest
Cristina

Do you know what a healthy body fat percentage is for women? And why a very low body fat – with bones such as chest bones or hipbones or whatever protruding – is not healthy? Of course you don’t 🙂 Don’t worry, i will not argue with you, you are too funny. A great addition to this site, just like some others with the same impression as you that you know better, while you are completely uneducated on the matter.

I’m bony. i certainly don’t starve myself. i have “fat” or technically obese relatives. Though i don’t follow them around continuously (or discontinuously 🙂 ) for months, I’ve seen no signs that they eat hugely more than I do (relative to body size). I’m convinced the differences are mostly biological.
I haven’t deliberately looked but I recall noticing young woman (21, for example) who had prominent chest bones in the area under the neck. “nothing else” (that i could see) appeared starved. I’ve also seen anorexics. big difference.
of course, some people could be in between – over “dieting”.

crazy? hmm..that’s an interesting supposition. i’m 5’9, weigh 150 and easily fit into a size 8 (size 28 or 29 in jeans). i’m a competitive cyclist so i have a lot of lean muscle and relatively low body fat (under 20%). i by no means have a tiny build–i’m probably somewhere in the medium range. so for me to say 135 would be healthy for her assuming she is not an athlete seems completely reasonable. if i weighed 135 i would probably wear a size 4 or even a 2. but what would i know–i’m just a moose, right?
asdfkjh
Guest
asdfkjh

everyone is twisting my words. i said that I FELT that way. i did not make a gross generalization to say that any woman at size 8 is a moose. so please keep your snide remarks to yourself. when i was that size, i was a bulimic alcoholic and held all my weight in my middle and i felt disgusting. i’ve since shed all of that, literally and figuratively. i still don’t feel right, even at 13.5 pct body fat. but that’s just ME.

nope
Guest

People aren’t twisting your words — go back up and read what YOU wrote… “I was a size 8 and a moose.” If you MEANT “I was a size 8 and felt like a moose,” which is still a poor choice of words and is obviously going to be offensive to a number of people considering 8 is a fairly average size, then you probably should think more carefully about what you say (type) before you say it (press submit).

She wasn’t saying that all people who are a size 8 are large, she was clearly saying it was too big only on her frame. I’m in the same boat as her, I’m 5’9.5 and I’m naturally meant to be thinner, at 130 I was also a size 8 but it didn’t look good on my body (I gain only in my hips and thighs). I know girls who have amazing bodies at a size 8 but when you’re naturally a 2-4 obviously a size 8 won’t suit you.

I’m going to say that thing that everyone hates.

She looks exactly like I did… at 15.

But for real, I think she’s always going to be thin because her hips are sooooo narrow. She’s got some muscle on her stomach. She could stand to eat more carbs, do some upper body building, and then eat protein to build muscle.

,,,That’s what people told me when I was 15 anyway. LOL.

Those calves….those arms….the face!

Girl looks like she’s paralysed. She has NO muscle whatsoever, and still a high body fat, at that low of a weight you’d have definition not because of actual muscle, but because you’re so skinny – for example Alessandra Ambrosio looks supertoned even though she’s actually just skinny, and doens’t actually have muscle mass.

Instead her thighs actually look blobby and undefined.

This girls looks like someone who starves and is mega bloated as a result. Metabolism got higher? Pshyeah right, and pigs don’t fly…until they hit age 2, when they magically sprout wings.

The proponents of the “Set Body Weight” theory would cry total bunk on this, and I have to say I do as well. Basically the theory proposes, with much research to back it, that you are born w/ a genetic component to a weight that your body desires to stay at. That being said, her metabolism would NOT change that drastically. And as an avid runner and gym rat, I have to say her body is clearly malnourished. I don’t like when celebrities say things like this because it leads others to believe that their metabolism can change suddenly and… Read more »

If you isolate her body parts, she doesn’t look too skinny – does that make sense? For example, her legs aren’t too skinny, although they could use some muscle tone.
