Emma Roberts: “I used to have a complex about being short”

Emma Roberts: "I used to have a complex about being short" 1

On her biggest insecurity:

“I used to have a complex about being short. Now I love that I’m 5’2. I’m strong, and that feels really good to me.”

On being confident:

“I believe we are all innately confident, but we lose touch with ourselves and let other people’s opinions and thoughts get louder than our own. It’s important to stay true to ourselves and find that confidence we had as kids. Know that your own opinion about yourself matters more than anybody else’s. Keep turning up the volume on your own voice, and don’t let other people’s voices get louder.”

… says Emma in Shape Magazine.

  1. 5’2 isn’t short.. is it? I mean at least not too short that u would have a “complex” about it.. a lot of ppl are 5’2 (kim kardashian, Nicole Richie, me) lol

  2. She is indeed shorter than average american women, but her proportions stay long.

Btw height is mostly about diet and health during chilhood/teens; not so much about “genetics”.

That’s why all developed countries have the next generation much taller than their parents.

Except the states, who are apparently regressing due to generalized poor diet….

    • Then how come my grandma that grew up in the depression is the same height as my mother and me lol. Obviously some growth is due to nutrition but you can’t surpass your genetics, otherwise everyone in the developed world should be basketball players.

    • okay then how am i (born and raised in a western country) shorter than both my mother and grandmother who grew up in the “third world” or whatever you wanna call it. sure, extreme prolonged malnutrition can lead to stunted growth in the long term, but height is genetic more than anything else.

  3. I just hate her hair color and bad extensions. She looks much better with darker hair, med or light brown would be good on her. She does look tone here, like she’s finally seeing a trainer on a regular basis. She’s usually skinny fat (flabby), like she eats crap and doesn’t exercise.

  4. She is attractive but her proportions appear strange to me. Her head, hands, arms and shoulders look bigger than her tiny body like they belong on a bigger body frame.
The size of her nose and lips don’t fit her narrow face.
To me, 5’2″ is short without heels. I love being tall (5’9″ ) but I hate not being able to wear high heels easily like 5’2″ girls.
I think when a 5’9 ft girl enters a room, she commands more attention than a 5’2″ girl but that does not mean one is more attractive than the other.

    • “I think when a 5’9″ girl enters a room, she commands more attention that a 5’2″ girl”–certainly sounds like you think one is superior to the other.

And I write this as a tall girl myself (5’9″ in the morning, 0.25″ shorter by day’s end, ha 😉 ).

      • You have not finished reading the sentence!
“… but that does not mean one is more attractive than the other.”

As an introvert, I think attention grabbing does not make an object or a person better. Height and questionable outfits tend to attract attention. I try to not wear heels because I don’t like people looking up at me and thinking “jesus, this girl is huge.”

  5. It seems like a lot of women want to be taller, I am 6 ft and while there are advantages it can be a pain in the butt at times. If I wear more than two inch heels I am taller than bf , it takes more for weight gain to show but when it does you look like King Kong, it usually comes along with big feet. I think every height has its advanced and disadvanges. Short girls can look super cute and petite and talk girls can look like long lean amazons.

  6. I just love her, I love this quote, and I love her movies. I’m 5’2 and I had such a complex about it too for years!!! Now I love my height as well and don’t feel the need to constantly wear high heels. Since 8th grade I always wanted everyone to believe I was taller by wearing heels.
