Tess Holliday: “My driver who is fat is questioning if I am healthy”

tess_article_1b0orng-1b0orpi - Tess Holliday: "My driver who is fat is questioning if I am healthy"

On feeling body shamed by her Uber driver:

Hey @uber I don’t pay more to use your “black car” service to be told that there’s no way I could possibly be healthy because I’m fat & then questioning it. No one should have to tolerate this at any level of the services you offer. I’m fat. I also have a fat wallet & will no longer be using your services. Ever. Also after I told him I was healthy he turned the radio off & changed the subject. #putmymoneywheremymouthis #uberdriver #uber
Edited to add: saying my driver is fat was obviously being used as a descriptor & not to insult him. Also I did not show his face or use his name when filming, it was to be able to show what I deal with daily & why this behavior is unacceptable from anyone.

For all we know, he may have been asking her about her cholesterol BECAUSE he is overweight as well and wondering how she manages (not too well considering her recent Instagram meltdown). Obviously it’s none of his business, but it’s not like he was insulting her. One would think that someone who talks about being fat and proud all the time has a thicker skin (no pun intended).

Same thoughts from me

Like it or not, I think he was definitely out of line. I wouldn’t like a driver asking about my health or any other sensitive personal issues. Yes, he’s fat too but I don’t think that gives him the pass to her medical record. It’s rude.

She could have just told him exactly that instead of continuing the conversation in order to be able to victimise herself on social media. Some people simply lack social skills and need to be reminded what is and isn’t okay. If he had wanted to be rude on purpose he could have said much different things.

Yeah… I don’t like passive- aggressiveness and how a lot of people’s first resort is complaining on social media instead of talking to each other in real life.

Still, I also feel like people are getting carried away because they don’t like her and her message. The driver was wrong, period. Her response to that, it’s another story…

seriously? she thinks someone who looks to be of a comparable size to her is trying to fat shame? more like he noticed she was big too and thought they could talk about something they had in common. also she doesn’t seem to understand how the company structure at uber works if she thinks they are intentionally fostering a negative environment. it’s not like a retail store where there is a manager who gathers together and talks to employees every day. if drivers dip below someone insane like a 4.7 star rating their employment is put on the line so… Read more »

She’s so obnoxious like ma your visceral belly fat alone indicates you are at high risk for a number of illnesses… it’s not ok to prod fat strangers about their health nor should all fat ppls #1 goal to be skinny lest they hate themselves, but BRO let’s not pretend you’re healthy when your bmi is probably like a 50 lmao

She has no idea how uber works, that’s first. Second, this video is very very misleading, we have no idea what the context was. It seems to me she is the one doing the shaming and attention whoreing (pardon my language). She is a despicable human being, to go with her body.

Great point. Makes me wonder about truth on a larger scale/what we’re being fed by the media etc.

she is morbidly obese, that is a fact, she cannot come around that. Of course we should never bodyshame people, but she cannot say that she is healthy, just like being too skinny isn’t healthy. I feel like everything in the modeling business is so extreme, if you are a regular model you are basically anorexic and if you are a plussize model you are overweight or obese. Neither of these are healthy images to portray. Can we not just have models who are healthy in the spectrum of normalweight, and i dont want to hear “what is normal weight?”… Read more »

There’s something so freaking funny about this, especially that image of the cuddly driver. I kind of love it. It reminds me of juvenile behaviour you see in kids when they know the other person has a point of sorts but they don’t know how to show anything other than indignation.

Oh just realised it was a short clip. The dude sounds ethnic. I wouldn’t blame him too much, some people are just more direct/have less shame than others, but it does not necessarily mean they are trying to demean another person.

Ugh grow up! So someone offened you, big deal. You got called out for being fat by another fat person…that is funny, sorry not sorry. Maybe if you don’t like how people see you, change your appearance or get over being butt hurt when ask about your health. It’s nobody’s business, you’re right, but people can be rude and nosy and as an adult you should know this. Just move on instd of turning this into WW3.

This clip is short and edited. We have no clue what prompted the convo or its context. It’s not like he called her a big, fat cow. He merely asked a question, altho it was too personal. And he def sounds foreign, like English isn’t his first language and some cultures have different social cues and norms, so maybe he didn’t understand that that particular line of questions/conversation is inappropriate. She’s obviously just trying to make a big stink out of nothing.

I don’t get why people are so falsely worried about other people’s health, though I think it’s “safer” to assume that Tess isn’t particularly healthy, than just some other chick whose just overweight or even slightly obese. Why comment on random person’s appearance? None of your business, even if the cab driver was supposedly asking for fitness tips or whatever. At the same time I would assume Tess hears this kind of sh*t on daily basis, maybe grow a thicker skin? I’m all for banishing fat shaming but it’s not realistic to expect that controversial, clearly obese person like her… Read more »
