Gwyneth Paltrow Thinks She Gets Criticized Because She Is “Considered Attractive”

GP2 - Gwyneth Paltrow Thinks She Gets Criticized Because She Is "Considered Attractive"

On the criticism she receives:

“It’s got a few layers to it. People were fine with me as an actress, but with Goop it was like, ‘Stay in your lane.’ Women in general get a lot of pushback, especially if you’re successful and attractive … I’m not saying I’m attractive. I mean when you’re considered attractive.”

On her infamous cleanses:

“I can’t be on a cleanse all the time… I did one for seven weeks last year and it was awful. My first meal of the day is normally lunch; I keep it light on carbs so my energy levels don’t peak and valley through the day. At home, I loosen the reins: a glass of wine, maybe a baguette dripping in cheese, some fries. […] On vacation, I eat what I want—and there’s no exercising, either.”

So out-of-touch. Nothing new. I will say that I do think she is an attractive woman but her personality kills it. Also, her hair always looks like straw – I’m surprised she doesn’t have someone to help her with that.

Oh totally about being out-of-touch, she’s just not gwyunine (see what i did there). I’ve also heard her called fish sticks since she is overly white-bread(ed).

Holy sundamage Batman! Her upper chest seriously gives me the heebie-jeebies in the first pic. As a pale freckled girl myself, I know that wearing sunblock all the time is a major pain, but it’s SPF vs skin cancer. The choice is a no-brainer. And I’m pretty sure Gwyneth gets criticized for shilling overpriced snakeoil treatments, not for women being jelly over her epic and unbelievable good looks. And some of what she sells is actually dangerous, like shoving a bacteria covered rock up your hoo-ha. Her cleanses are just silly, I get a laugh out of them and I… Read more »

Will I definitely agree about the sun damage, I would say that the majority of her skin damage probably happened before the rise of using SPF. I remember in the 90’s that parents didn’t always put SPF on their kids and that using SPF wasn’t as heavily advertised or recommended.

“…when you’re considered attractive.”

I suppose she’s not humble but can be considered humble …

Take heed, sage advice from the goop site – “It’s Not Your Fault You’re a Narcissist”
http://goop.com/its-not-your-fault-youre-a-narcissist/

Seriously it’s ok if she considered herself attractive (irritating personality aside I think she is) but this poorly veiled attempt at modesty just opens her up for more criticism.

I’m fascinated by people with her level of self-confidence. Can I have half of that?

I know right, wish I had just 1/10 of that self confidence.

Honestly, I think she’s way past self-confidence. More like delusion (not about the attractive comment, but basically everything she says about herself).

Confidence or delusion who cares? In her own head she’s the best and that’s her reality. I’d want to know how that feels for a day? I’m seriously exhausted from low self esteem.

I agree with you there. I’m very aware of my flaws on every level and I’ve sometimes imagined how it might be like to be… I don’t know, self-unaware? You might make a fool of yourself but you’re not even aware of it, so you feel great anyway. But at the end of the day I think some middle ground is healthier.

I don’t know, usually people who behave like her are actually insecure deep down. Insecurity and arrogance often go hand in hand. She sounds like someone who is obsessed with being healthy but has not developed consistent, sustainable healthy habits… she doesn’t sound grounded or confident at all to me. She sounds attention seeking and kind of desperate. Truly confident people don’t usually behave like that, or feel the need to do extreme things to achieve the things they want (like health or fame in Gwyneth’s case)

I do like the second picture of her. I think that’s when she looks best–when she’s rocking the beachy vibe. I personally love her freckles (always wished I had them!). As to her quotes, err..no comment.

Her face is quite beautiful in those pictures.
Well, she is quite attractive from the looks, definitely not ugly. And it’s true that many women get s*** from other women, so I can totally see what she means.
I personally don’t observe this among males.

men do a different put down, usually about strength or sexual prowess.

She’s obviously attractive, but that’s clearly not the source of the criticism. The pushback comes from the fact that she uses her fame and fortune to promote pseudo-science about nutrition and healthy living. She has no expertise in any of these topics, but she using her privilege to promote her ideas. If I knew that she made the effort to become learned on these topics I would have a more favorable opinion of her efforts, but I’ve never seen any indication of her wanting to further her knowledge…She just wants to promote her anecdotal evidence and pass it off as… Read more »

You forgot to mention that many of her favorite “remedies,” “treatments,” etc. that she recommends to normal, working class women are usually overly expensive and something that most people can’t afford.

She’s the only daughter of a rich famous director father & a rich famous actress mother, her god father is Steven Speilberg. Of course she is full of herself & thinks her s h i t don’t stink. You know if she were every truly sick with something serious, she would be seeing the best doctors and not having her vag steam and sticking jade eggs up it.
