f-1 - Meet Sports Illustrated Rookie Kate Wasley

Name: Kate Wasley

Age: 22

Nationality: Australian

Size: 12 US

Height: 5’11” / 180 cm

Measurements: 41 / 32 / 47, 104 / 81 / 119 cm

A quote from Kate:

I get a lot of comments (not necessarily on my page, but when photos get reposted) that say things like ‘wow, promoting obesity isn’t healthy’, ‘she must have heart disease’ ‘nice face, but needs to lose weight’… and I wonder why is it that people think this way? The fact that I am a bigger human doesn’t mean I’m sitting at home, eating a high calorie diet, eating junk every meal and doing no exercise. I work out, and I have some days when I can’t be bothered, I eat healthy and sometimes I eat foods that aren’t, I drink 3L of water a day, I also like to have wine on fridays. I have balance and that’s ok.

I see people on instagram that I may think aren’t healthy or attractive to me (I don’t comment, it’s just an observational thought) but do I think that they aren’t worth of loving themselves? No. I think everybody, no matter what I may think of them or how they live their lives is worthy of respect. It’s their life, how do their choices effect you or me? How will saying something mean make a positive change? My beliefs may be different to theirs or yours, my health and fitness goals may be different others, people will have bodies that you don’t find attractive, but are they worthy of respect and self love? Abso-fkn-lutely.

i don’t see it? if other people like her, cool, but i really don’t get how she’s a model even a plus sized one. ashley graham i get, but this girl looks extremely average and does not have a great body. if the whole plus sized thing sells, cool, but it’s a problem when people start seeing the typical sports illustrated model as anorexic. sure VS has had some too skinny girls in their show before like anja rubik, but SI has never booked anyone too skinny (to be healthy).

I’d be curious if it sells. People who buy this issue of the magazine are interested in beautiful athletic women. She is not athletic, out of shape, and unhealthily over weight. While it pleases the unhealthily fat acceptance movement to have women like her in magazines, I don’t see any of them buying this magazine or a magazine like this. It is terrible a health and sport magazine would promote unhealthy eating. While they might get a lot of press for featuring overweight models as far as being politically correct, but I don’t know that this will actually sell magazines.… Read more »

Yeah, at least Ashley Graham’s face is somewhat above average. This is literally one of the women I see on the train every single day. I bet a lot of commenters here are more attractive than this “model”. Ridic

Nice to see a plus size model besides Ashley. Kate is lovely and feminine. Actually I am a bit tired of seeing Ashley’s “I am so damn hot and sexy” face expression.

I can see just unhealthy weight on the body. Maybe she is happy, but she CAN NOT promote that weight as NORMAL. Now a lot of girls are overweight because of models like her.

Lmao!! NO ONE ever decided to be overweight because some model was. Please.

Her body isn’t terrible, I don’t mind seeing plus-size models this size. But I don’t find her face particularly attractive or memorable. And she has small breasts for someone her size, if she loses weight she’ll lose them too. She’s okay I guess, but I just don’t see her blowing up like Ashley Graham did.

Re: cup size
FWIW, I lost 65lbs and mine stayed the same size, band size just shrunk. 38C to 34DD, cups are narrower but they hold the same volume.

I don’t really understand why she would be in Sports Illustrated. Just doesn’t seem like a magazine dedicated to sports and fitness would be her particular medium.

This is silly. How did we get from Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks to this?

How did we even get into swimsuit models for a magazine about sports?
Bikinis arent a sport…

I for one am so happy that now women of all sizes have the opportunity to be turned into sexual objects. /s I don’t understand how being on the cover of SI is considered a point of pride for a model. Kate has the requisite try hard I’m so sexy face with an unflattering swimsuit 2 sizes too small. Is being humiliated like that really worth a job?

Some women don’t find it humiliating and the exposure career-wise is $$$ *shrug* It’s not for me, but it doesn’t hurt me either.

her face is surprisingly average, but maybe not so surprising, since so many of the skinny “models” are so average cough nepotism cough

I’m tired of seeing professional pictures of extremely average people

Wait, what? A model is a model because of their aesthetic. Not everyone is a model and they need to stop trying to make everyone is a supermodel happen. For one, a plus size model should not be in a sports/athletic magazine. I dont care how plus sized models insist they work out on a regular basis. If you are overweight, you are overweight and that is that. Are there some who are overweight and do not work out VS. some who are overweight and do workout? Sure but both are still overweight and being overweight is unhealthy. Also, talking… Read more »

She definitely consumes high calorie meals at that size. Even with differences in metabolism and etc three really would only be about a 15-20 lb difference at most between ppl of average heights. She’s delusional if she thinks she eats a normal admins. I usually cook most of my own meals but when I eat it I’m always overwhelmed by the portion sizes. Most Americans are probably over eating and underestimating the calories they consume. When I told my friend I was losing weight on 1400 calories a day they claimed they gained weight when they are only 1200 calories… Read more »
