27 year-old plus model Iskra Lawrence is an avid militant for body positivity – and she recently partnered with Elle to create a video that shows how posing in certain ways can make one look much slimmer.

On her video:

I wanted to get super real and show u how drastically and instantly ppl can change how they look simply by posing!
Let alone good lighting, high quality cameras and photoshop! I’ve talked about this a lot in the past but in this video I show you 7 ways in which posing can dramatically change how we look. I myself still pose and there’s nothing wrong with moving your body in ways you feel most comfortable or confident but let’s be honest and show the actual process. I’ve been modelling 14years so I learnt some stuff I want to share with you all. Because life’s not perfect, social media lives aren’t Perfect and neither are us or our bodies. And that’s exactly how it’s meant to be! Because we are all imperfectly perfect and 100% unique.

P.S.: According to Wikipedia, Iskra is…

Height: 1.75 m / 5’9”

Weight: 192 lb (87 kg)

  1. I am getting so tired of the “instagram v reality” or “before and after” photos on Instagram.. I know that the message behind them is true but they scream ATTENTION. I follow a bunch of fitness IG’ers and I see this daily..

  2. Sure there is “proper” posing, ( I mean even Tess Hollyday “poses” for her Instagram) but the fact remains- slender ( in healthy weight range)body looks better in real life.

  3. To me, she looks the same weight and shape, no matter how she poses. It might work better for slim people to look even slimmer / skinny.

  4. My tip: if you’re going to be in profile or in closeups, suck on your tongue. Try it in a mirror and you’ll see how it immediately firms up your jawline and makes your face look slimmer. With a little practice you can do it with an open smile also (I do it every time I have to have some sort of ID pic taken so i don’t have to worry about a double chin)

      • Or I could just be weird and spend 1/5th of a second moving a muscle group to help create an ID photo I’m not embarrassed about. The firm jawline in my driver’s license goes perfectly along with my authentic and natural smile!

          • you shamed yourself. I’m the one saying you should stop sucking in your cheeks for pictures and just accept yourself. but ok

          • I wish I could just take a picture and not worry about how I looked, like when I was 11 and LOVED being in pics, goofed for the camera… Then life happened and here I am years later hating having pictures taken. I’d rather relearn that then learn how to ‘look’ the right way to others. I probably look normal/average, so why is a part of my brain telling me I’m hideous?

          • You didn’t answer how your comment of “but you know if you have a double chin in a photo . . . you have it in real life too?” reflects on yourself. Is there a reason you are choosing not to answer? Is there a reason you are attempting to bully someone over their appearance? What is the psychological benefit you receive back from cyber bullying?

          • You’re projecting and desperate to be a victim–stop. All I’m saying, all this mental effort to make deceiving pictures is pointless–you’re not changing reality and anyone your handing your ID to sees the real “you” right in front of their face so why bother?
Why not just be real and smile?

          • Agreed. I think I picked up my anxiety from my mom. We should be just happy with “imperfect” photos and enjoy the moment more often, or we’ll teach this to younger generations of girls

          • You have yet to answer on “but you know if you have a double chin in a photo . . . you have it in real life too?” reflects on yourself.

          • Nevermind. I realized I just violated my own cardinal rule: do
not feed the trolls. i gave a harmless tidbit about how to look nice in a picture, and you chose to make it into something bigger than it was to get attenuate and boost your own need for approval and excitement. I now know better than to feed this.

  5. This article brings up some good points where the pose does make you look a lot different and can make you appear nicer. After all, just having better posture makes you look thinner and more attractive looking. I would say though that a few of these before and after shots are wrong through.. The shot right after the YouTube video (the 2nd photo), the before pose looks better on her. This also goes for the last photo (photo 6). In those cases, the before photos look better.

  6. do you know wwhat else is deceiving? photoshop, which se uses a lot (see pics on instagram – her body looks different in every picture)
