Janet Jackson Brings the Quotes of the Day

FP_5950545_Colored_Girls_NYC_22_34- - Janet Jackson Brings the Quotes of the Day

“A lot of the women today are under eating. Some of the stories I hear… I’m not going to name names (but) this is the worst. Eating tissue, Kleenex, so it fills the stomach. So you’re full. So you don’t want another bite to eat and so that’s what you eat.

I was told at a very young age on Good Times that I needed to go on a diet, I was only 11, 12. I look back on those shows and I wasn’t a heavy kid. And like I said, some people can brush it right off but others, they internalise it. That was me.”

… says Janet in an interview for CNN.

It’s unrelated to what she said here but I feel for this woman. She is THE ultimate yo-yo dieter and I think she never quite came to terms with her body and her relationship to food. I hope she will never revert to eating kleenex. I also think she looks fine at her current weight. The outfit is a no-go though.

Eating Kleenex? That’s disgusting. That makes me want to choke just thinking about it.

kleenex? how would that even digest?

ginger

Well, actually I believe it doesn’t digest.. but I think it’s like fiber… It goes in and out without suffering any changes because we don’t have the enzymes to digest it.. However, apart from the damages of actually not eating healthy, real FOOD.. I wouldn’t say it causes serious damage.. Idk, it isn’t like eating a plastic bag..

But, seriously, a person has to be under a whole LOT of pressure or some mental illness to go under such “diet”…

Sounds weird and unhealthy, like it wouldn’t digest. I wonder if it works.

Kleenex are made of cellulose, like paper, or fibers… so eating kleenex is disgusting but “healthy” (I mean it doesn’t hurt your body) You don’t have the right enzymes to digest it (unlike other animals like mice, or goats but I’m not sure), so it just goes into your dejections In theory it totally works : you eat, but there is no energy in this “food” that you can get to yourself… It’s as if you eat nothing, without starvation (but your body is actually starving) I think it’s really really weird, disgusting and crazy… You have to be really… Read more »

It is so unfortunate that she allowed comments about her appearance to bring her down. Both her and her brother are/were so talented yet they never felt good about themselves due to issues with their looks. It just shows how important it is to remind your child everyday how worthy they are – confidence starts at home.

So true Melly. And they were such gorgeous little things as well before they started messing with themselves so much. Well i personally always thought they were attractive but thats because I REALLY loved their performances and personalities. but i mean they needed nothing done (not that anyone ever needs anything anyway)

No, they would not digest. That’s the purpose. Gross. Blech.
Funny that was what I tried as a kid when I read that goats eat tissues.

She is really in no position to be criticizing other people’s diets, even if it’s something as crazy as eating kleenex.

why not? because she isn’t stick thin and has no right to have an opinion? i’m pretty sure most people in hollywood (thin, heavy, whatever) all have issues with their bodies and it’s messed up.

I don’t remember mentioning anything about her weight in my post. Do you? I was referring to the fact that she has gone from being close to obese and back down to a healthy weight very quickly, multiple times. THAT is a fact, and it is a fact that that is UNHEALTHY.
So yes, if you are an extreme yo-yo dieter I don’t think you have a right to be dishing out diet recommendations.

Well, just because she yo-yos doesn’t mean she thinks it’s healthy. I’m just she knows how to sustain her weight but she ends up eating due to emotional issues or whatever. She probably knows what she’s talking about but just can’t put it into practice for herself.

Eating non-edible objects is a well-established eating disorder. It’s called pica and sufferers are often driven to eat things like tissues, shampoo, chalk – even faeces. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_%28disorder%29

I don’t know if the women she’s talking about suffer from pica, but it is really sad and tragic that anyone would eat tissues in the pursuit of thinness.

A friend of mine was addicted to eating paper, even pizza boxes. Not for thinness, for no defined reason. She has given it up but has to work hard not to do it. She was always still hungry for regular food though so I guess she didn’t find paper products that filling.

Eating pizza boxes as opposed to the pizza. I’ve really heard it all.

There’s an eating disorder called Pica, where you feel compelled to eat inedible things. Maybe she had that?

eating tissue paper?? what the hell is wrong with the world today? anyways i’ve always thought that she was gorgeous. from head to toe and she always reminded me of michael. from looks to having talent but both suffer from insecurities, which is sad because both of them were beautiful. guess that’s what insecurities will do to you.

When I was around the age of seven I would eat napkins, not to be thin but because I was weird and liked how they tasted. My mom caught be one day and took away my gameboy, and then that was the end of that.

Haha in elementary school my friends and I used to have paper eating contests! It was cool to eat paper. Don’t worry, I’m not that weird now … at least, I hope so.

Same! One of my friends legitimately enjoyed eating paper and the rest of us just copied her because we thought it was cool. She was hardcore about it though–we’d chew and spit out, she’d actually swallow, and she preferred paper with ink. I don’t think she had any kind of disorder though, just weird stuff kids do.

mel

Haha we all swallowed our paper 🙂 Otherwise we’d be uncool. We also used to have a thing where people would color their tongues with markers (not the edible type, the Crayola ones). That was pretty gross.

LOL at all of this hahaha. I ate paper too. and cat food biscuits.

Once I heard about models eating cotton wool (or how do you call it, maybe absorbent cotton) and drink it down with grapefruit juice. That time I thought it’s some kind of joke about models eating habits, but after reading this post I’m not that sure 🙂

Oh my God, that is really horrible if some people are eating paper for the sake of thinness. I have never ever heard about this type of ED. Assuming that so many people in the world are dying from starvation it is so sad. Nothing more to say.

I’ve heard about both eating paper to stay thin and about the eating of objects bc of a mental disorder, two very different things though. It has always been pretty obvious imo that Janet is a sensitive person, in that she takes what people say to heart, and has suffered for it, so to say. Very irresponsible to start telling kids to lose weight. But as such, it’s not anything new.

Eating Kleenex? What kind of nonsense is that?

We really don’t know how lucky we are to have the luxury of such vain problems (I’m sure a woman living in DR Congo would happily trade places to take our problems over theirs). EDs are serious business, I don’t dispute that, but not every woman that does these ridiculous things to keep off the weight has an ED. To ones that do have an ED I sympathise but to the ones that don’t: kmt

I recently watched a documentary about an overweight woman with an addiction to eating toilet paper it was disgusting. So I’m not s sure this works then again perhaps she was trying to wipe her arse without using her hands?
