Lea Michele: “I was one of the only girls in my high school that didn’t get a nose job”

16thAnnualScreenActorsGuildAwardsArrivalsc-L3asDrIYwx - Lea Michele: "I was one of the only girls in my high school that didn't get a nose job"

A while ago, we heard ‘a girl who eats’ Lea Michele say that she loves her ‘Jewish nose’ – take a look at the highly commented post HERE! Lea continues to talk about her nose in this month’s GQ magazine:

” I was one of the only girls in my high school that didn’t get one. And if anybody needed it, I probably did. But my mom always told me, growing up, “Barbra Streisand didn’t get a nose job. You’re not getting a nose job.” And I didn’t. F- those people. That’s why I’m proud to be on a positive show and to be a voice for girls and say, “You don’t need to look like everybody else. Love who you are.”

What do you think of Lea’s thoughts?

she sounds sensible. I think she’s a good role model

Hey, more power to her. To many really young girls are “fixing” the most almost insignificant pieces of themselves for the worst reasons – the main one being to try and look like someone else’s idea of “beauty.”

I certainly don’t demonize plastic surgery (especially if it’s for genuinely needed medical reasons) or the women who get it, but natural beauty is always more appreciated!

couldn’t agree more!

Natural beauty is LUCK,often.

I appreciate both equally. Why should women who weren’t blessed with great genetics, who subtly tweak themselves this way or that way,be ”lesser” in some way to others??

it’s not like she has the most hideous looking nose on earth. everyone has a nose like that, it’s nothing that people would point at on the street. i don’t know, opinions and dimensions of plastic surgery might be different in the USA but to me it seems exaggerated to be proud of not having surgery with such a normal nose.

i’ve seen a lot of comments towarded to her saying “get a nose job” or something along the lines though. i think she has a beautiful nose, but in hollywood, it does stand out, and she grew up in showbusiness so maybe she’s been surrounded with those kinda people more than your average gal. i’m just glad i got to grow up in a place where there was virtually no plastic surgery so i’ve been able to just brush off those moments when i’ve felt like i wanted to get something fixed. Bc at this point of my life i’ve… Read more »

Is nobody else shocked that most of the girls in her high school got plastic surgery? I mean I can understand if someone had a horrible looking nose, if they broke it, or if they just couldn’t breath right, but most of the girls? really? they all needed that? and in their teens? where are parents these days? it’s not like getting a piercing, people are totally abusing plastic surgery.

Obviously she went to a school with a bunch of rich people and she herself is rich too. I went to schools that seemed affluent but no one I knew was getting nose jobs.

I graduated with her at THS, only a couple girls got nose jobs because in our graduating class a few had huge noses. I just want to say she wasn’t exactly the nicest person either so I find it ironic that she labels herself as a victim because she was very nasty in our school productions.

i live in miami where anyone with small b❆❆bs is getting b❆❆b jobs left and right. in my boyfriends family, every single woman and theres many got a b❆❆b job and dyed her hair blonde. i guess in cities like miami la and ny its rather common

I guess location does make a difference. I went to school in the northeast. Fake b~~~~, tans, and blonde hair didn’t really fly there. People wanted to be super thin with perfect skin and trendy clothes. They wanted to look “intellectual” even though they were painfully superficial. Probably worse than blonde bimbos because they actually thought they were smarter and better than everyone.

i didn’t live in a “rich” area per se, but my best friend had a nosejob in 8th grade. my other friend who’s 19 already has her face pumped full of botox.

it’s crazy

Yeah. I’m so glad I didn’t go to her high school. I don’t think any one in my school had plastic surgery. The most taboo thing they did was go to the tanning bed *gasp* at 15 and tan *gasp* nude. Wtf is wrong with teenagers today?! And their parents?! How are b❆❆b jobs and nose jobs acceptable gifts? Unless there is something truly disfiguringly wrong, I think a girl can wait until she is older then a teenager to see if she still feels that way. Maybe they could love their nose in a year? they let high-schoolers get plastic surgery? I’ve only heard rumours about this one foreign girl getting a b❆❆b job, but apart from that underheard of at my school! But yeah, i’ve never understood what a “good” nose is supposed to look like. Your nose is just part of your face! It’s like the woman from dirty dancing- she got a nose job, looked like everyone else and no-one recognised her.

you can get a nose job under 18 with parental permission.
A 15-16yo girl with a HUGE nose got one at my school. Everyone talked about it though.

alyssa

same. she did have a HUGE nose, and it was all you could ever see. in that case, i can see why, but its your choice. unless its something extreme , like a nose that is really really REALLY out of proportion with the rest of your features…

tiffany

wow no offense but that comment didn’t show how she was proud of who she was. she said she didn’t get a nose job; however she also said that she needed it more than anyone else. i think that shows some hypocrisy.

Ugh thank you. She’s obviously not as happy with herself as she says she is if she’s dieting and talking about her nose and how she probably needed a nose job more than others.
I’m getting sick of hearing Lea Michele talk about herself.

sara
Guest

how is that hypocritical? being objectively aware of the size of your nose and of how a smaller nose would look like on your face’s proportions but don’t care too much and decide to not have a nose job are two different things…i don’t see how one can exclude the other

she’s great role model i have so much more respect for her we need more women like her in this world specaily hollywood she’s really pretty the way she is if she had nose job she will look like everybody else in LA

Satirist

Have you ever actually been to LA? It’s not what movies and tv make it out to be. Yes, there are some very affluent neighborhoods, but most of it is quite poor and run-down. Most people in LA don’t have enough money for the rent, let alone plastic surgery. Plus, Lea saying that she needed a nose job more than anyone goes completely against what she said earlier about loving her nose.

Yeah sure you dont have to change your looks. So why she lost a lot of weight recently?.She is so hypocrite.

@tiffany i disagree her nose is big that’s why she said she needed more than anybody but she stayed strong and didn’t get it don and i’m sure in hollywood they remind her every day of how she would look better if she got it don

I can totally relate to this. My family is really into plastic surgery as well though and thinks I’m crazy for not having my nose done (it’s not huge, just ethnic). I rather not get any surgery done unless I need it for health reasons. Too many things can go wrong, even this day and age.

Exactly, and they’re obvious from a mile away. Noses, for the majority, are in proportion to peoples faces. I’ve seen girls go and get the hollywood ‘button nose’ but it doesn’t suit the rest of their features and face shape. It’s really quite sad. Especially when the girls are in highschool. With b~~~~, they grow! You tend to put on weight when you leave highschool and this can make your b❆❆bs get bigger. As can going on the pill. Also, with noses, your face changes subtly until you’re in your early twenties (meaning a lot of people ‘grow into’ their… Read more »

I’m a total Gleek, and I love her character in Glee… HOWEVER, she does seem to love to point out her “flaws” alot. It seems like she wants people to say, “Oh but I love your nose!” I never even noticed it really before she started talking about it during every interview. Sure, they make jokes about it on Glee, but they make fun of everyone’s flaws on Glee. Matt Morrision doesn’t talk about his curly hair all the time. Maybe she’s just embracing her Rachel Berry persona, but I’m not a fan of her (Lea) in real life.

True, but then 5lb when you are short can be the difference between a healthy weight and underweight……not saying she is underweight, just pointing out that a healthy weight range is much more confined when you are shorter.

i highly doubt that everyone in her high school got nose jobs………..if they did though that is pretty f**cked up….
two sisters at the school i went to got them done, and they look great…

i plan on getting one when im a little bit older……just subtle though as my nose isn’t really big ……

i don’t understand why she feels the need, i every magazine article, to justify what she looks like…..she isn’t hideous and has a nice figure..im sure she doesn’t get that much criticism

I love her. I absolutely LOVE Lea Michele! I usually find celebs who talk about how they’re ‘healthy role models’ and how they ‘represent girls of today’ or whatever. All of that sounds like bull to me. But Lea M has been sweet and true to her self the whole time. Her message is really genuine and I respect her and her acting for that! She’s a real person, not a weird celebrity that projects an image that PR created so that she’ll book more jobs, and she has a heart of gold. I love her and I love that… Read more »

Do her comments annoy anyone else? She tried to say something inspiring, but at the same time says that her nose ‘probably did’ need fixing, like it’s a flaw. There is nothing wrong with her nose and it fits her face well. Self conscious girls are just going to look at this and think that even someone as pretty as her isn’t ‘acceptable’.

omg I TOTALLY AGREE! she seems overrated to me and she should really stop commenting on her nose. and i doubt that most of the girls in her h.s got a nose job! seriously, thats ridiculous.
its funny how everyone hates megan fox for going on about her self and making silly remarks yet no one seems to say the same about lea michele. i mean she has “jewish” nose? what a “jewish” nose? eugh!

Mmm. Well I’ll admit i’ve had a nose job. I think each to their own. You can’t paint all people who have plastic surgery with the same brush. Not a whole lot of people even noticed that much of a change until i showed a photo of me now and before and i dont plan on a string of plastic surgery tothe point where i look like im made of plastic. Good for her if she didnt want it and she wanted to embrace her looks. Thats great. But yeh- not all plastic surgery is obvious. Im sure if i… Read more »

I think when it comes to plastic surgery, people should only speak for themselves. She sounds a bit condescending to the other girls in her school who did get nose jobs. Nobody walked in those girls’ shoes. Maybe they didn’t have a mother that taught them to love themselves no matter what…in fact, maybe they had a perfectionist mother that only added to the pressure. Maybe their imperfect nose was such a huge focus for them that it got in the way of enjoying life and social interaction. Maybe something else. Maybe, maybe, maybe. You never know. I would probably believe what this girl says more often if she didn’t have to take her damn clothes off for so many photoshoots. It reeks of insecurity and need for approval. Her latest in GQ is just trashy.

I’m always torn on what to believe with her . . . Especially with rumors you here around the magazines. When she speaks she sometimes comes off as a little stuck up, but some people just say things that make them sound worse than they are in actually.

Until I’m given a reason not to, I like her.

I suppose she could be insecure, but some people just like taking their clothes off.

She is a good role model in some ways to young girls, but I’m sorry – she is still very homely in my books. I can’t find a single attractive feature on her face. She has small eyes, weird lips and I’m not even going to start on her nose…but still – good for her for not caring what others think!

Jess

What a b—y comment. Are you serious? Your perception of reality is deeply flawed. Regardless of her personality it’s hard to deny that she is a beautiful young woman. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that people like you encourage a desire for perfectly attractive girls to get plastic surgery in this society. Honestly, nitpicking the natural shape of someone’s lips or the size of their eyes? You must be Aphrodite herself come down from Mount Olympus.

Oh God help us!Isn’t she GREAT for not fixing what is a nice nose in the real world today.SHUT UPPPPPP,Lea!!!! I had a nose job at 18 and had waited about 5 long years for it. My nose was damaged fooling around as a kid and I had a deviated septum, but I’m not going to lie,it was the appearance that I hated the most.It had kind of a bump and people would make all sorts of horrid comments. It held me back a lot-from taking pictures, having certain haircuts etc.I was always paranoid about it.It hurt,to feel ugly all the time. It… Read more »

Wow, that’s sort of hostile. She’s not saying she’s looking down at people who DID get nose jobs. She’s simply saying that she didn’t and it was the right choice for her.

And, for your information, she gets a lot of crap from critics and regular people alike for her nose.

Juliet

LOL, I love how Lea claims that she likes her big nose and has come to accept this “flaw” and yet her nose in the first photo shows visible contouring, which is a make-up trick designed to make one’s nose look smaller and less bulbous. Let’s face it: she *is* uncomfortable with her nose, and it wouldn’t be a surprise in the future if she got it *fixed* in a subtle manner.
