Scarlett Johansson Brings the Quotes of the Day

scar-vf - Scarlett Johansson Brings the Quotes of the Day

On how she hates the “ScarJo” nickname:

“I associate that name with, like, pop stars. It sounds tacky. It’s lazy and flippant… There’s something insulting about it.”

On how she hates being asked about her sexiness:

“Actresses get stupid questions asked of them all the time, like, ‘How do you stay sexy?’ or ‘What’s your sexiest quality?’ All these ridiculous things you would never ask a man.”

… says Scarlett.

She should close her mouth on photos… Other than that, I like the second quote a lot.

Guest

yeah, I mean, she gets a lot of flak, but she doesn’t strike me as someone who’s dumb – I think its because people have a lot of problem accepting that sexy women can also be smart – that women aren’t one or the other.

Wut? I actually praised her quotes, I was just saying that she has this awkward facial expression on every single photo. I wasn’t saying she was dumb.

Guest
AlyssaMoh

no, no – i wasn’t saying you were calling her, dumb i was responding to the second part of your comment (albeit poorly).

A lot of people mock her and think shes an airhead, but like you pointed out, her perspectives are often good

how would you know? Do you know them personally?
Who do you consider smart from the Hollywood set?

Natalie Portman is im sure MUCH smarter than “she fancies herself”…she went to an Ivy League college…she didnt have to…she’d reach critical acclaim before she was like 10 or 12…

I know many people who’ve attended ivy league schools. I know other people who attended attended lesser colleges, or no education beyond high school. There are brilliant individuals as well as dummies in both categories so don’t assume one’s intelligence based on prestige. Going to Harvard means you have the ability to remember and parrot someone else’s theories, being great is the ability to formulate your own. Now, I’m not saying Natalie isn’t smart, she strikes me as being so, but please, don’t base it off the school she attended. As far as Scarlett goes, I empathize with having an unwanted… Read more »

Guess you didn’t notice my highlight of her choice and passion in education not simply that bc she got good grades she’s smart. The discussions abt faking intelligence and my point is that NP’s not anyways. I know what you mean tho as I know some booksmart people that are airheads

How do you know her motivation was passion for a continued education? People continue school sometimes just to survive/thrive. Not for their own love of knowledge. Go to the library on a Saturday. You’ll see knowledge lovers.

Something tells me when you have the option of an easy life without the need for education when at 12 you have every director offering you a part, that she willingly CHOSE education or to be educated and worked hard at it, and has been quoted numerous times that she’d happily chose education over her career in film, and then exemplary in her actions as seen in skipping the Star Wars episode 1 premier to write her high school exams, oh and Ida know if you missed it above but she graduated with honours from high school and then went… Read more »

Yes, there are dummies in both cateogries, but I firmly believe there are more dummies in the “no or little education -category”. You will not get into Harvard by just repeating someone else’s ideas… You have to be able to think critically!

Blah blah blah blah blah. As if education truly defines intelligence. Speaking as an educated person myself I should add.

Yes, why this open mouthed ‘dumb’ look for women in magazines? She objects to people asking questions about being ‘sexy’ but she has agreed to pose for magazines, she could just say, no I’m an actress and not a model.

I dislike these pics, she has a bad facial expression in all of them and the PhotoShop it’s not good on the last two. Anyway I think she has a nice personality.

HB

Nice? She basically just called all pop stars with nicknames tacky and acted snobby about a nickname used by her fans…

Guest
AlyssaMoh

I liked her a lot as Samantha in Her, and she does a kick-a$$ job in the Marvel series as Natasha/the Black Widow.

I don’t know why she gets so much flak – I don’t see her as being any more deficient with the roles she wins than other actresses.

Also: I love how she didn’t chisel away her nose into nothingness. I love her nose in profile. Its bigger and softer than most actresses, but its still cute.

Juju

She still had a nose job tho. But yeah she kept it reasonable.

I like ScarJo. I always have. She seems to have some depth to her, unlike a lot of other actresses.

She’s about as deep as a bath tub. And don’t call her ScarJo… it’s “flippant, lazy and offensive”

She’s an obnoxious snob.

james

I dunno I don’t like ScarJo as a nickname either, first time i’ve heard of it

She just said she doesn’t like to be called that, for god’s sake! The fact you concentrate more on the first quote makes you as obnoxious as her. 😉 She said something very important in the second quote.

I hear ScarJo for the first time haha Don’t see her appeal at all but she is decent looking girl

HB

I don’t find her attractive at all. I don’t think she’s ugly either, just sort of neutral. Her face seriously reminds me of a Who from the Dr. Seuss books, which, like I said before, I know sounds mean, but I feel like it’s okay since she’s apparently the “sexiest woman alive” to so many people.

Guest

Yeah those things may sound stupid to her, but I feel like that’s the only reason she is still famous…. For her looks and so called sexiness.

I still don’t think she is pretty or even striking and she is kinda a s—ty actress.

Emy

“I feel like that’s the only reason she is still famous…. For her looks and so called sexiness”. Very true. When you think of her, you think of sexiness and boobs, not talent sadly…
I also find her first quote very arrogant, like she is WAY better than a vulgar popstar?… Yeah right

About her comment that men never get asked that, well… NO. Women just don’t tend to notice because we usually don’t read magazines targeted at men. If you’d look at magazines e.g. Muscle&Fitness or similar, you’d be astonished at the amount of workout plans and interviews from male actors regarding their diets and workout regime. Being toned and sexy is no longer just a “duty” for women and the pressure is rising.

lc
Guest
lc

YEP. I’ve glanced through more than a few “Details” magazines in the checkouts just because, and they certainly do ask them those things, and touch on the look topic, more than you’d think. I think it was kind of silly of her to say that.

recoveredangel
Guest

Totally agree. There is probably equal pressure on men and a ton of male actors always get asked about their “sexy” secrets. It’s all about which interviews and magazines one chooses to pay attention to.

james
Guest

I think she is right their is a difference maybe not that but fewer male actors are considered sex symbols than female ones, the male actors that are picked for “teh sexy” might get asked but normally its not a default question for any male actor

Ellia

Agreed! It’s definitely a two-way street…but it’s popular for women to act surprised/annoyed/offended at the attention that their sex appeal has gotten. It all harkens back to us trying to act like we’re not trying, like we’re ‘accidentally’ beautiful/sexy/hot and offended that anyone would imply that there’s intention or effort behind it. I want to like her, but she’s hypocritical…her handlers worked hard to cultivate the ‘sexy’ image (not to mention the affected husky voice and intonation she uses in every.single.movie). As for the nickname–may be annoying, but having a nickname is advantageous (keeps her relevant). I wouldn’t be surprised… Read more »

Ugh. I hate the first quote! She is basically saying all pop stars are ‘tacky’. I’m not a huge fan of pop myself…but seriously? What makes her so much better than them?! I do agree with the second quote…yet I feel like she is just reading from a feminist script but not feeling it.

Emy

Agreed. In this interview, she later compares herself to Cate Blanchett lol… (“So Cate Blanchett is not, like, ‘CaBla’? Why is that?” asks Johansson. “Why do I have to get stuck?”). She’s a beautiful but very full of herself woman imo

Come to think of it–didn’t “ScarJo” appear shortly before she announced that she sings and was going to record an album?? (Remember when she debuted at Coachella, and then released an album of Tom Waits covers a few months later?)

solaxia

Ha ha you’re probably right! I never listened to her music, but I do remember she did try that route…so really what makes her better than the others? She is not exactly the most wonderful actress either. We are all just trying to make our way through life the best way we can, so why should she have such an ignorant attitude towards others. I actually don’t find her beautiful most of the time. She does have a cute figure. I think I just like her voice and she looks better in motion. Otherwise I never really did get the… Read more »

Honestly, I don’t have much love for her anymore. I think she’s attractive and I like her figure, but I have never had a warm vibe from her. She seems sort of cold, vain and arrogant to me a lot of the time. I don’t think she’s made the best choices as an actress – focussing too much on her looks – and even though I think she can act, she hasn’t really done much of any depth for a while. Maybe as she gets older she will change because the sexy roles will begin to dry up for her.… Read more »

I like what she says about the stupid questions but I don’t get whats so bad about her nickname…I mean all stars have these silly nickname..just roll with it…god take your self a little too seriously and I guess she thinks she is better than popstars whom some prob have more talent and money than her…I don’t get what nicknames have to do with popstars…

She’s so blah, one facial expression, her acting is lame, when is she going to realize she gets parts in movies because of her looks, that’s why people call her scar Jo, even in all these pics she has the same stare. Also, her second quote is dumb because men (celebrities) get asked those questions all the time. She complains how she is seen as a sexual thing, if you don’t like it, then stop showing your body all the time. She’s like Megan fox when she’s complaining about not taking seriously as an actress. Why can they just embrace… Read more »

Dear ScarJo, if you want to be noticed for your intellegtual properties or for your sports achievements, maybe you should do something about your PR and other things. Walk around in a skin tight catsuit for the avengers? Show up to the red carpet with showy bust crack, “bombshell” hair and makeup, only pouting like a p—star in the pics taken? Complain about people noticing your sexy qualities? Maybe there’s a reason for everything.

she hasn’t impressed me ever since she linked eating meat to rape (yes, really) and when she voiced support for Roman Polanski. Lost all respect for her.
