The full story from Daily Mail:

Plus-size model Rosie Mercado who shed 240lbs said she was targeted by ‘fat activists’ who told her to kill herself after her dramatic weight loss.

The mother-of-three from Las Vegas said she does not ‘miss anything’ about being 410lbs but that she has received hate mail directed at her transformed body. The 36-year-old, who used to be a size 34 and is now a 12/14, was told to ‘jump off a bridge and kill myself’ by people who objected to her weight loss, she claimed in an interview with TMZ.

I got hate mail…Not so much from the other models, just fans that hated on me. They told me to go jump off a bridge and kill myself for losing weight. Fat activists, there you go. Yeah fat activists, they just hated the thought I was really public about my weight loss and I was losing weight,’ she said.

While Rosie, who now weighs 170lbs, ‘loves’ her slimmer physique and the ‘freedom’ it has given her, she said some people reacted negatively to it.

She said: ‘Because I guess everybody loves to be happy in their own weight. Some people love being overweight, some people don’t. I think it’s a personal choice and you’ve just got to take it, there’s good and bad that comes with any life choice and changes so you know what? You’ve just got to let it go and not pay attention to the negative remarks.’

Rosie said her critics did not like her being ‘authentic and open’ about the changes to her body and her subsequent tummy tuck and skin removal.

Despite losing almost half her former body weight she said she is still plus-size, adding: ‘I love it.’

  1. Ah fat activists. The ones who claim that weight shouldn’t matter, and that happiness and feeling good is the most important thing, yet issue death threats at a person trying to embody that philosophy.

  2. Wow that’s an awesome transformation! She looks great.
I can’t stand these “fat activists”. They ask for diversity, body acceptance, but usually are the first ones to jump on people who make some positive choices towards their health/body image.

  3. I’m so proud of her, thats a phenomenal weight loss to achieve and maintain because obviously she has made some significant changes to her lifestyle in order to make that progress.

As for the fat activists, its par for the course. They like to say how happy they are that they are fat, and life is great, but they have to because none of them are willing to make the changes or put in the effort to lose the weight and be healthy. As soon as someone does, it reminds them that yes it is possible and they become angry and volatile because they are reminded of their own shortcomings.

  4. I’m not one to cry envy at everything but why else would you hate someone for becoming healthy? Seems like these “haters” would also like to make a change but don’t have the willpower it takes.

  5. Sounds about right of the “fat acceptance group”, just a group of angry low iq women who want everybody else to be as fat and miserable as they are. Somebody asked me what is the hdifferemce between fat acceptance and body posttivity, well heres your answer.

  6. wtf, is this something people think is okay?
do men get the same treatment or is this something that women do to women exclusively

      • We’ve had fat acceptance for men for tens and hundreds of years. Only now the gym-physique obsession is starting to become peremptory for males. Which I disagree on.

“Before”, she was definitely not inspirational.

  7. This is such a shame, and it is an even bigger shame that there is even such a thing as a “fat acceptance” movement. Everyone and I do mean everyone wants to feel and look their best. Now whether they are willing to do the things necessary to do it lies the problem. Many not all of these women are probably just lazy and will probably wait until a healthy scare before they commit to being healthy. Miss Mercado is still a larger woman who was huge before. Why anyone would begrudge her losing some weight to be more healthy just because it makes some people look at themselves and realize that they can do the same if they cut the crap and excuses and just do it is beyond me……….So many examples of somewhat famous larger women who claim they are happy with their size only to change their tune and lose a large amount of weight at some point in their lives………..

  8. This world is a sick place sometimes, all you can do is laugh. Anyway good for her but her face was honestly gorgeous even at that large weight, you don’t see that too often. I don’t know if they’re just not doing the right makeup or whatever but her face kind of appeared more attractive before, but being healthy is still worth it,

  9. o wow she looks great, good for her for getting healthy! she looks fab

those fat activists are just mad they lost a spokesmodel so bizarre to be mean to someone about their weight loss, especially when being that large can kill you and cause a ton of problems

  10. Finally some sanity!! I’m so happy for her health, especially because she carried SO much weight around her middle. And what a gorgeous face.

  11. The term fat activist is an oxymoron. Activists fight for things like civil rights and meaningful social reform. Demanding that men find obese women sexy and demonizing heavy women who get healthier is NOT activism.

  12. Screw people Rosie, there’ll always be a reason for them trying to hate you, people are just toxic, especially if they’re jealous. The point is; you stuck with a life choice and it paid off. I think you looked pretty both before and after but it’s the health that counts, you probably feel much better now. As for the others whether it be flight attendants or bloggers: Tell them to kiss your size-changing ass.
